From: Foratog <cybersacco@geocities.com> Subject: [PW!] A Winter Snow's End in Cinnabar Island Date: Friday, February 04, 2000 7:15 PM (My first PW!, and my introduction of my characters, Nick and Jessie) It was a unseasonably cold night on the tropical island of Cinnabar Island. It was snowing lightly, and some of the populous of Cinnabar could see light steem coming out of the massive Cinnabar volcano. At the Cinnabar Island Orphanage, the children were suppost to be settling down for the night; but tonight was a very special, and somewhat sad day. Two of the orphans there, Nick and Jessie, where planing to leave the orphanage (without any adults knowing; they are only 15, they are only alowed to leave at the age of 18) and the other kids there wanted to see them off. Nick and Jessie wants to leave the orphanage and go out and find their destiny, as Pokemon Trainers. But the leaders of the orphanage usually frowned upon their kids going out and becoming Pokemon Trainers; they want them to become fine adults, living with a family of their own, and having a good, easy life. But the kids wanted to become Pokemon Masters. As Nick was packing up his Pokeballs into his backpacks, Jessie was saying here good byes to her many friends. Nick had no one to say good bye to; his only friend was Jessie. This usually got him down, but Jessie or Nick's pokemon would always find a way to cheer him up. When they were all packed to leave, they set out and left the one place they knew as home. Many thought that they would just live on the cold, mean streets of downtown Cinnabar Island, but Jessie knew who could give them shelter for the night. The Nurse Joy of Cinnabar Island Pokemon Center was a close friend of Nick and Jessie, and she would let them stay the night at the center. She was the only adult who had cared for them, outside the orphanage, of course. When the two teens had settled down in the Pokemon Center, they layed in the dim light of the star-filled window in front of them. Nick had a content, certin look on his face as he gazed at the stars, but Jessie looked worried. After about five minutes, Jessie finally broke the silence, which was bothering her. "Nick?" ...No response. "Nick??" "What?", he said, in a slightly annoyed voice. "Where are we going to stay after tonight?" Jessie had asked. "Uhm...". Nick seemed hesitant. "I haven't thought about that yet." "But we need to decide where we will sleep for the night. I don't want to think about that at the last minute." Jessie was the type of girl who needed to have her immediate future planned out for her. Nick had a tendincy to call for things on a whim, and this would make Jessie worried at serious moments. "We have some money left, maybe we can spring for a motel. It'll have to be cheep, though." They didn't talk for another few minutes. Jessie couldn't stand the silence, so she blurted out, "You have been training Vulcan very much recently, haven't you? He's our main Pokemon, and we need him to make enough money for us to live." Vulcan was the name for Nick's Charmander, who he had raised ever since Vulcan saved Nick and Jessie's lives when they were at the volcano many years ago. Ever since, he has been Nick's favorite Pokemon, and he wants Vulcan to be the greatest Pokemon ever. Although Vulcan's Ember could be the strongest in Cinnabar, he was very weak when it came to taking damage. This was evident with his extremly puny flame on the tip of his tail; a staple for the Char-family. Nick was very scared of his beloved Charmander getting hurt in battle, so he would withdrawl him from battle at the flip of a switch. Nick replied, "Of course. I am trying to get his flame larger, so I'm having him fight some offensive fight types." "Good," Jessie replied. She was a little more relaxed now. They suddenly heard a lot of commotion coming from the door leading to the entrance to the Pokemon Center. Nick got out of his roll-up bed, and got up and peeked out the door. He saw a group of 3 young trainers carrying something in there hands. Then he heard Nurse Joy say something about "severe freezing." "Sound like a few kids found a stray Pokemon in the snow," Nick says to Jessie, who is sitting up in her bed. Then Nick got a better look of things. It was a rather large Rattata, and it had ice ALL of him. Then Nurse Joy bust open the door Nick was peering out of, and hit him on the nose. "Oh my, I'm so sorry Nick! We have a Pokemon Emergency!" cried out the urgent Nurse Joy. As Nick was holding his nose, he ask what was going on. "We have a frozen Rattata, but we don't have anything to thaw him out! We don't have much use for a heater in Cinnabar Island!" Then Nurse Joy turned away from looking through the rubble of junk she was looking thru. "Wait! You two have fire Pokemon! I think they will do just fine!" Nick and Jessie quickly got the idea, and they ran out the door to have a see at the cool Rattata, who was shuddering horribly. Nick then ran back into the other room and came out with three Pokeballs. He tossed one of them to Jessie. She pushed the button on the Pokeball. "Go Vulpix!" Nick threw down the two other Pokeballs. "Come out, Vulcan and Growlithe!" Just about when Jessie was going to command her Vulpix, she turned to Nick and gave a stern look. "What are you doing?!? Why did you bring out Growlithe??? He might attack everyone!" Nick soon relized this, but it was to late. Growlithe was already lunging out at the weakened Rattata, but Vulcan already saw this coming. With a quick "CHAR!" and a Leer attack, Growlithe was stunned, giving Nick a chance to return him to his Pokeball. "Thanks Vulcan, you came through again!" Now Jessie was concintraring on helping Vulpix thaw out the Rattata. Soon Vulcan began to help as well. In a few minutes, the Rattata layed in a pile of cool water, and Nurse Joy took him into the back. One of the boys said to Nick, "Thank you so much for saving my Rattata! I must pay you back somehow!" Nick was about to reply with a "Thanks kid, that's ok," but Jessie kicked him in the shin. The young kid rummaged in his backpack, and pulled out something. "Here, have these! I found them on the street; I'm too young to use them!" He gave Nick two tickets for the S.S. Anne. Nick was stunned, and couldn't say a word. But Jessie stepped in. "Thank you so much! Nick, this means that we can move of the island and on to the rest of the world!" But Nick didn't seem so happy. Once the kids have left with thier Rattata, Nick and Jessie returned to thier beds. Jessie was very excited, and anxoius to talk about the S.S. Anne. "So I heard it's the best ship for Pokemon Trainers! Wow!... I wonder where it will take us." But she relized she was talking to herself; Nick was already asleep. Jessie then layed back in her bed and wondered where the S.S. Anne could take her. She had always wanted to go on a luxury ship, because she was jealous of people who had it better then Nick and herself. After a little daydreaming, she went to sleep, and started to dream about sipping elegant drinks on the deck of the S.S. Anne, as a few guys were huddled around her, trying to talk to such a cute girl. But she could only dream...
