Dr. > Eckert turns and departs, leaving Kyle alone with Jessica. > Kyle stared down at the card before him and again seemed to zone out. Finally he spoke: "Jess, do you have any further objections to getting out of here now?" Jessica pushed the top off of the recuperation chamber and then stood. "No; the apology was heartfelt enough, I think," she understated. Kyle noticed Jessica's scaly cheeks looking a little bit red. Kyle got up from his chair. "Before we leave, I was wondering... any chance you'd trade Leviathan back to me?" Jessica asked, "What for?" "Well, I'm giving up training," Kyle explained half-heartedly, "but I plan on keeping my Pokémon around...for companionship, you know? And, well, Seaclamp just isn't much for companionship..." Right away, Jessica sighed, "I talked you out of quitting once... and I just don't have enough original material to talk you out of it again. I normally wouldn't say this, but if you want to quit, that's just fine." Her head drooped. "I need a rock Pokémon," she quietly added. "I'll let you keep Leviathan if you give me Rampage." "What?" Kyle shrieked. "I can't in good conscience -" He cut himself off. "Jessica, for all we know about him, he could just turn around and kill you one day!" He desperately thought up an alternative. "Jeanette let me keep her Nidoqueen after it seemingly lost its will to fight...what if I gave you Nidoqueen and Goliath the Golem for Leviathan instead? Think about it! It's a two-for-one deal!" "Kyle, you want to know the real reason why all of my Pokémon are so loyal?" Jessica queried. "Let me tell you, it's not because 'all Pokémon naturally like me.' Tendril was my first Pokémon; I caught him at a young age, so getting him under control was nothing difficult. But my second Pokémon, Gigawatt, didn't listen to a word I said at first. However, with a lot of help from Tendril, I turned Gigawatt into a loyalist. Kyle, training a Pokémon really isn't much different from training a dog. As a matter of fact, throughout the process of disciplining Gigawatt, Magus, and Seaclamp, I used Tendril's vine as a choke-chain." "Am I hearing this right?" Kyle responded. "You, who are practically the president of the S.P.C.P., training Pokémon with a choke-chain?" "My point is, it takes more than just food and care to get control of a pack of Pokémon," Jessica admitted. "You also have to let them know who's 'Alpha Dog.' I guarantee that by the end of the year, I can have Rampage eating out of your hand. I could even work on Daggoth or Leviathan for you...maybe if your Pokémon had a little more discipline, then you'd reconsider giving up training." Suddenly a point that she could potentially use to make Kyle change his mind came to her. "Heck, I could be stuck as a Scyther for the rest of my life, but you don't see me quitting as a trainer." "..." Kyle was nonplussed for about half a minute. Eventually he surrendered and piped up, "I'll think about it after I see what you accomplish with Rampage." With some reluctance, Kyle turned over Rampage's Pokéball to Jessica, who cradled the spheroid in her warped scythes. "Here, take Kerrigan the Nidoqueen too. I can't have her and Daggoth *too* close." Kyle then opened up his backpack. Immediately, Cathode the Pikachu jumped out to freedom. "Pikaaaaa!" the electric blue rodent squealed. He immediately jumped up to take his usual position atop Kyle's head. Kyle plucked Kerrigan's Pokéball from his backpack and then handed the orb to Jessica. Jessica returned both Pokéballs to Kyle, then sheepishly said, "Maybe you'd better just hang on to them for now." Kyle shrugged, then stuffed both Pokéballs back into his backpack. "Come on, let's get back to Cinnabar." Kyle added, "Yeah, we've still got a funeral to attend to..." He started looking even more depressed. With Cathode in tow, Kyle and Jessica headed for the exit. As the duo exited the Pokécenter, Jessica wondered, "Kyle, did you...really mean what you said about me in there?" Kyle hugged the damaged Scyther close. "Well, I'll admit I wasn't being entirely accurate," he said. "I love you a whole lot more than that." "Awww..." Jessica leaned her head against Kyle. "I just wish...I wish there were some way to get rid of this species gap between us," she sighed. Suddenly the expression on Kyle's face was one of epiphany. "Actually, let's go back to Cerulean just for a short visit," Kyle suggested. "I have an idea...!"
