"Have you decided on your team, Robert?" Rilli asked as the couple waited for
the humming machine to finish exchanging their pokémon.
"I think so," Robert nodded as the machine spit out two Pokéballs, one on each
side. "I'm going to switch Golduck for Hitmonchan, since that duck's so clumsy!
And then I've gotta trade Snorlax for Vileplume..."
"Sounds like a plan." Rilli picked up her pokéball and looked at it. "I better
check to make sure the trade worked..."
Robert suddenly realized what that actually meant. "Uh, wait a second,
Rilli..." He wasn't quick enough, however, as the pokéball popped open on the
ground. A purple ball of fuzz looked back and forth between the two trainers, a
bit disoriented. Suddenly its large eyes widened with recognition, and it
immediately glomped onto Robert's leg. The results were.. predictable, to say
the least.
"AAAAAAAAAAAAHHH!!! GET IT OFF GET IT OFF!!!" Robert ran wildly around the
room in a panic, even after Venonat lost its grip on his leg and fell off. This
continued for a couple of minutes until Rilli managed to catch him by the arm.
"Robert, get a grip! It's only Venonat, you've seen it before!"
"I-it never acted like that before to me!" Robert stuttered as he backed away
from the confused Venonat, who was now even more bewildered by the
inconsistencies in its trainer's behavior. Rilli stretched out a hand to it,
and it shrank away in fright. "I see we still have a lot of work to do..." she
sighed as she recalled the insect back to its pokéball.
Robert seemed to calm down as soon as the bug was out of his sight. "O-Okay, I
better do the trade now..." he breathed, walking over to the computers. He sat
down and quickly began typing out a short letter to Bill. Suddenly, he paused
in thought. "Wait a minute, Rilli, I just remembered that Rock is weak to
ground attacks! Golem will be weak to Earthquake, even if it can't be hurt by
Thunder!"
Rilli considered the information for a moment. "That's right, I forgot... but
Golem is really strong; he'll be able to stand the attacks won't he?"
Robert shook his head. "I can't take chances against Giovanni, Rilli! If I
lose again, who knows how long it'll be before I can challenge him again!" He
began typing again on the computer. "Come to think of it, Vileplume is weak
against ground too, since it's got Poison... I guess I'll leave Snorlax in,
since at least she isn't at a disadvantage."
"Then what are you going to do about Golem?" Rilli asked.
"I'll, um... switch it for Tauros!" Robert decided. "Heck, I haven't used him
in a while... and Normal's not weak to Ground _or_ Poison!" He tapped a few
more keys, then made the switches through the computer. "There, all set!"
