Later that day, Xerox, Famifax, Bozo, and Silly Putty are busy setting up a stage
in Viridian City Square, a stage for a magic show that will be presented to the
people leaving Indigo Plateau after the Final Tournament - possibly the biggest
magic show the Pokemon World has ever seen. At least Marvin the magician hopes so.
He is sitting on his favorite green bean bag chair in his caravan, sipping some
lemonade and watching television, quite certain that Xerox has everything under
control.
"Day Time Soap Operas are so cheesy." Marvin scoffs at the television, talking to
himself, "Dittos of our Lives? Oh come on, like any human being could ever fall in
love with a Ditto. What kind of a sick person would want to sleep with a Pokemon?"
"YOU..." Famifax calls out, panting preventing her from finishing her statement.
She skates into the caravan as a sweater-clad blonde blue-eyed teenage girl, "You
won't... You... you won't believes it! Silli's bein totally not clumso! Iss scawy!"
Marvin turns off the television using his remote control and looks at the
bewildered Ditto, "Really? How is that possible?"
"I dunno, Marvy-man! But iss so scawy thass I runs away and comes here to hide!"
Famifax looks innocently around the caravan, "Hmm, where cans I hide? Ooo, I knows!
Fersure!" She skates into the clothing racks, her paradise.
Marvin struggles for quite a while before prying himself out of his bean bag chair,
leaving a large groove in it when he finally manages to stand up. He adjusts his
black top hat, pulls on the ends of his golden bow tie, and straightens out his
blue tuxedo's coat, "One should always be presentable when going outside,
especially when one is a performer." After reciting this belief to no one in
particular, Marvin heads outside of the caravan to investigate Silly Putty's
strange behavior.
"Bozo, fetch me a chair." Marvin makes this simple request. Bozo takes the request
as an order and gets angry at Marvin. He grabs a chair and holds it over his head,
ready to throw it, as if he were a guest on a certain afternoon talk show. Marvin
notices Bozo's discontent and corrects himself, "I mean PLEASE get me a chair! I
know you're not my Pokemon, I'm just used to giving orders since it's how Xerox
likes to be treated." Bozo throws the chair anyway, just not aimed at Marvin's
head. The chair lands right in front of Marvin and the magician sits down on it to
watch Xerox and Silly Putty's interaction.
Xerox is in her default form - a small purple Ditto. Though this isn't the best
form to be in when one is handling props, Xerox really doesn't enjoy Transforming,
and will avoid it as much as possible. She can actually afford to not be in the
most efficient body for the job since Silly Putty is taking care of most of it. The
green Ditto has Transformed into a Cueball, a big fat burly guy. Though Cueballs
are supposed to be bald by definition, that particular Cueball has two strands of
green hair going over his otherwise bald head. Xerox glances over at the Cueball
that is Silly Putty and says, "I am in need of a pole."
Marvin pulls a small notepad seemingly out of nothingness and snatches a pen from
within his sleeve. With his hand ready to write, he stares at the fat man who is
helping out Xerox, already predicting the obvious answer that he will utter.
"Yes, my love." Silly Putty nods and lifts a large metal pole off the ground and
heads towards Xerox.
Marvin's eyebrow raises, showing his curiosity, "Famifax was right. This *is*
scary. Hmmm..." He looks at the stage and sees that one of Famifax's rollerskates,
a rake, and a banana peel are all on Silly Putty's path to Xerox. Marvin smiles.
Silly Putty walks past all these props without tripping on any of them. He lays the
large pole down in front of Xerox and asks, "Do you desire anything else, Xerox? I
am always ready to assist you with anything you need." Bozo narrows his eyes at the
show-off, and sticks out his tongue. Silly Putty looks down at Xerox and shakes his
head, "What a misguided soul. Doesn't he know that harboring feelings of anger
towards me won't solve anything? Love is the answer. Always and forever."
Marvin scratches his head, and his hat tips to the side, "What the?! Did he
Transform into Xerox or something? He's acting like her clone. This is very
unsettling." Marvin stands up off the chair and climbs onto the stage. He steps up
in front of the Cueball that is Silly Putty and taps his shoulder. The magician
says, "Hey, why aren't you being yourself all of a sudden? In order to impress
Xerox? I don't buy your act and neither does Famifax or Bozo, so you can quit it."
"Act? What act? Love is the answer." The seemingly-idiotic Cueball nods sagely, "I
learned that lesson after seeing Doppler's lack of love. That led him to nothing
but a feeling of emptiness. This is who I am, whether you think so or not."
Marvin grabs Silly Putty's broad shoulders and shakes the Ditto-turned-human, "What
is wrong with you? If you keep acting so dramatic and reserved, you won't be Silly
Putty anymore. You'll just be plain old Putty. And no one likes putty that isn't
silly."
"Who are you to judge me about acting? You're a street performer who dresses up and
puts on a show for everyone." Silly Putty looks down at Xerox, "You don't think
that I'm acting, do you? You know that my feelings for you are true, right?"
Xerox closes her small black eyes to think, then opens them again, "I cannot tell
you how to behave, nor how you are supposed to behave. As strange as this might
sound coming from a Ditto, I believe that you should always be yourself, whatever
yourself is. Perhaps you thought that behaving Silly was the only way to make
acquaintances, but you always yearned to be something else. If this is the case,
then I believe that you should change your name along with your personality to be a
different kind of Putty. I kept my name only because I believe the principle behind
it - I am always inferior to what I copy." Xerox remembers the document she read on
Cinnabar Island, shudders, then continues, "The decision is yours to make."
Marvin sighs and shakes his head, "And I liked the name Silly Putty. I don't think
Sell-out Putty has the same ring to it."
