From: Tech Weaver misses Mick Foley already. (theover-powerer@webtv.net) Subject: [PW] [S.S. Anne] [Repost?] Ambushed by a bush? Chet meets Terry Newsgroups: alt.games.nintendo.pokemon Date: 2000/03/09 (I know I posted this on Insanellama's Jim Wayne post, but I thought it would make more sense on its own.) Chet leaned up against a wall near a potted plant in the Vermillion Pokecenter. Something seemed slightly amiss. Maybe it was the fact that he just traded a Voltorb for a Krabby. It could be that, except for him and Chance, the Pokecenter was empty. Nurse Joy was in another room and there wasn't a Chansey in sight. Odd, considering Lt. Surge's reputation for seriously injuring his opponent's Pokemon. Chance the Meowth flipped a coin. "Heads," predicted Chet. It came up tails. "Hmmph." Chet pulled a packet of honey-roasted peanuts from his pocket. He opened it and popped a few peanuts into his mouth. Chance flipped the coin again. "Heads." Tails. "Dang." The Pokecenter's state was a bit odd. Somehow, that wasn't it, though. Something else seemed wrong. "Heads." "Tails." "Huh?" Chet thought he heard someone. He looked around. No one was there. The voice had sounded familiar. Someone he knew from Vertigo Island. It sounded like... "Terry!" The realization came a bit too late. The potted plant next to him wrapped itself around him. It wrestled Chet to the ground and his arm behind his back. "Say Uncle!" the plant playfully demanded. "OW!" winced Chet. "Uncle! Uncle!" "... And say Aunt, Grandfather and third cousin twice removed!" "Ack! Get off me, you freak!" The plant leapt off Chet and melted into the form of a human. The boy was about the same age as Chet and noticably thinner. Behind mane of long, loose black hair was a face with a hurt expression. "So I'M the freak?" Terry said. He tranformed into Chet and rolled up a sleeve. "Need I remind you whose hiding an exoskeleton AND spider-like spinnerettes behind that second shirt?" "Change back before someone sees you!" Chet demanded, suddenly self-concious. "I don't need people knowing we're mutants!" Terry changed back to his previous form. He then leaned forward with both hands on the ground. "Well, aren't we Mr. Be-True-To-Yourself today?" Terry retorted. "I don't need this," Chet said, standing up. "I don't know how people around here would react if they knew I was a mutant, and I don't want to spoil my chances of entering the Indigo League." "Well, then," Terry added in a mock-offended tone. "Maybe I don't want to be your traveling companion!" Terry crossed his arms across his chest. "Like I'd want you to be my traveling companion," Chet replied, leaving the Pokecenter. Terry whistled. "Aren'cha forgettin' somethin', Sport?" He unfolded one of his arms. In his hand were two tickets to the S.S. Anne. Chet checked his pockets. Empty. "Hey, give them back!" "Only if I get to keep one of them." "Fine. But you stay away from me for the entire cruise. Got it?" "You won't even know I'm there," Terry said as he melted into the floor. Chet picked up his ticket and left. Chance trailed behind. As they boarded the S.S. Anne, Chet hoped that Terry would do as they agreed. Of all of Vertigo Island's people, mutant or otherwise, Chet disliked Terry the most. There was something about shape-shifters that put him on edge. Terry especially, as he wasn't content with being on one side of the fence. The surprise attacks weren't an endearing quality, either. Chet sighed as he strode along the deck. He hoped he didn't have to deal with any more shape-shifters for a long time. Little did he know, of course, that there were at least two more shape-shifters already on board.
