"Like I said, we were teleporting away from Team Rocket. My apologies that this place was our destination, but any port in a storm...and you'll note that my associates - all but one of them, anyway - *have* left." Then a thought crosses his face, visible only by Doppler's changed expression. "Wait...did you say this is *your* Gym? And that you have released most of your pokemon? Did you release-release them, or just let them out but continue to control them? I know most new Gym leaders seek funding to improve their gyms, and if you do not control your pokemon, only using those who choose of their own free will to serve you, then I might just know some financers who would be interested in backing you." Robert keeps one eye on the rising water, not wanting the pool to flood, while forming a cradle with his arms for his raichu to drop into. "First things first. Do I know you?" "Err...ummm...that is..." Doppler races through his memory, but specific details seem elusive. Just as if he had not lived them...but that was impossible. "You'll forgive me if I don't recall immediately. I had to use Amnesia in the battle to free my friends just now, and I'm afraid I'm still feeling some of the aftereffects. Do I know you?" The neophyte member of one of the elite classes of pokemon trainers shrugs, bouncing the raichu to her delight. "My name is Robert." "No last name?" "Don't most Gym leaders only give one name?" Doppler nods. "True, true. You can call me Doppler." "No last name?" In a flash, there were two Roberts, though one was cradling nothing but air. "'Don't most Gym leaders only give one name?'" "Even with that body, you're still not me." "Granted. Let's just say...my last name is a secret." "Rumplestiltskin." "Eh?" Robert shrugs again, yet again bouncing the raichu. "It was worth a shot. Now, if you are Doppler, then you are the leader of the Pokemon Resistance, and they would be the 'financers' you mentioned...or so I've been told." 'Robert' put up his hands defensively. "The media's got us wrong. We're not a bunch of savage killers out to destroy civilization." "I never heard anyone say you were." "Oh. Well, then hear me out, please? Our organization's purpose is to promote freedom for all pokemon, and equality between pokemon and humans. If you, unlike every other Gym leader I've met, treat your pokemon as we wish all pokemon would be treated, then you can see why we would be willing to actively aid you in your quest. In addition to money, we could provide you with good defenders: as you can imagine, we by necessity have a number of trained fighters, some of whom would give their lives to serve something like this for a day, or even an hour."
