Brock-Episode 05 "Char," this is once again the first thing that Blade hears as he awakens from consciousness. "B.Butterfree?" Blade says as he sits up and looks around the room. "Butterfree is okay," Stephon says as he walks towards Blade. "Nurse Joy healed him and he's resting in his Pokeball as we speak." Blade stands up and feels the pain in his back and stomach. It seems more painful this time than before. "Blade, how are you feeling?" Blade hears through the receiver in his ear. "Chief?" Blade asks. "This is me," says the Chief, "I have some bad news for you." ".What is it?" Blade asks as he releases Butterfree from his Pokeball. "It seems that all of Team Rocket was able to escape some how. We figure that whoever there working for is a very powerful person with many resources and a lot of money. However, that's not the bad news. It seems that the board of leaders of T.P.P.L. across the country have decided that you now must earn badges." "What!?!" Blade says loudly, "Badges.why?" "Well, they know that your martial arts abilities are uncanny, but its your Pokemon abilities that there worried about. You've had Charmander for quite a while, but your starting to catch more Pokemon. They need to know that you can battle Team Rocket's Pokemon with your own. You'll have to collect all eight badges from the Gym Leaders and compete in the Pokemon League. I' m sorry Blade, I voted against it, but I was overruled." "Fine," Blade said as he started to walk out of the room, "I'll go battle the Gym Leader of the Pewter City Gym right now." Blade walked out the door of the Pokemon Center, with Stephon following closely behind. It took only a few minutes to get there. He stood right in front of the Gym with his eyes closed tight, concentrating. Stephon stared at Blade and wondered what he was doing. He also noticed that Blade's Pokemon were doing the same thing. Blade and his Pokemon just stood there for four minutes, not moving a muscle. They all finally opened there eyes at the same exact time, and walked to the door of the gym. Blade recalled his Pokemon and him and Stephon walked into the gym. "Where are you?" Blade asked as he looked around the room. "I'm right here," said a young boy as the light above him quickly turned on. "I challenge you to a Pokemon battle," Blade said as he grabbed one of his Pokeballs. "I accept your challenge," said the gym leader. "My name is Brock, leader of the Pewter City Gym. We will each use three Pokemon, agreed?" Brock said as he clutched one of his Pokeballs. "Agreed," Blade said as he prepared to throw his Pokeball. "Pokeball, go!" Brock said as he released his Zubat from his Pokeball. "Pikachu, I choose you!" Blade said as he released his Pikachu from his Pokeball. Zubat was able to use his Leech Life attack on Pikachu, but was defeated after Pikachu used Thundershock. Brock then chose Geodude. Blade knew that Pikachu would not be able to defeat Geodude, so he recalled him and sent out his Butterfree. Butterfree was able to dodge Geodude's Rock Throw and use its Confusion attack, then Sleep Powder to defeat it. Brock then sent out Onix, who with one quick Tackle attack, defeated Butterfree. Each trainer was down to just one Pokemon, Brock with his Onix, and Blade with his Charmander. Charmander used its Leer attack, than used Ember, but it didn't hurt Onix that much. Onix then began to Bind Charmander, which was quickly weakening Charmander. "Hang in there, Charmander," Blade said as he tried to think of a way to defeat Onix. "Charmander," Blade said softly, "I need you to win this for me. Without it, I'm out of a job. I'm sorry Charmander.I'm sorry." Charmander saw the frustration and sadness in Blade's eyes, and with one quick "CHARMANDER", began to glow. Blade, Brock, and Stephon all watched in amazement as Charmander began to evolve. ".Charmander.evolved into.Charmeleon," Blade said to himself. After Charmander evolved, he was able to break free of Onix's Bind. "Charmeleon," Blade said as he pointed towards Onix, "Use your Ember attack one more time." Charmeleon jumped right in front of Onix's face and shot his Ember attack right at Onix. This was too much for Onix, and Blade won the battle. He was given the BoulderBadge for defeating Brock. After saying good-bye to Brock, Blade and Stephon went to the Pokemon Center, healed Blade's Pokemon, and left. "Chief?" Blade said, "Are you there?" "Yes Blade, I'm here," the Chief said, "Congratulations on your victory. You impressed all of the board members, but you cant leave Pewter City yet. You have a job to do. Spend the night at the Pokemon Center and I'll explain your mission to you in the morning." Blade and Stephon then turned around and headed back towards the Pokemon Center.
