Mamoru awoke to the sound of an alarm clock and Yuki's yelling in the
back of his mind.
[Wake up you idiot! The alarm clock's been ringin' for 20 minutes
straight. I woke up, but NOOOO, mister sleepyhead here couldn't wake up
when the blinkin' clock is bleepin' at the volume equal to a rock concert
right next to your bed... Jeez!] she said.
[Aw, shaddap already. That's what you always say,] he replied.
[Besides, we were *SUPPOSED* to be down at the gym about 5 minutes ago!]
[Aw, crud! We missed it again!]
[Whadaya mean *WE?* I was the one trying to wake you up, mister...]
[Just... Shut up already! You're giving me a headache.]
[Maybe you should try to wake up when I tell you to, eh?]
[Fine, whatever. Leave me alone. You've given me a headache.]
[OK, jeez...]
Mamoru got up and put some waffles in the toaster before putting on a
black T-Shirt that said 'The Weedles' in their distinctive logo. He just
couldn't get any of their songs out of his head.
Not that he bothered Yuki with them, but there were enough of them so
that Yuki sometimes would pluck one out from the dark recesses of his mind
and play it to herself. Besides, what other enetertainment could she have
while he was in control? HE was the one calling the shots, deciding what to
read, what to listen to while he was in control. This pretty much left her
to commentary and playing stuff from the back of his mind.
He slipped on some jeans, got the waffles, and left to go to the Olivine
City Gym. He ate the waffles while he walked there.
[I still say we need a bike,] said Yuki.
[What?]
[Just that, we still need a bike.]
[I already told you, we don't have one.]
[Eh. We'll see what happens when *MY* legs get tired. I'm not gonna
just sit down, I'm gonna steal us a bike.]
[Just, just... You don't need to steal a stupid bike. Fine, I'll get
one for you later. I *DO* have some money saved up. I didn't know what I'd
use it for, and I guess it'll do for a bike.]
[That's good. So when do you think we'll have enough?]
[About a month or two, then we can go to the place down in Goldenrod.]
[OK, we'd better.]
By this time, Mamoru had arrived at the Gym and had checked in with the
receptionist, who had said that Jasmine was in her office, waiting for them.
He went down the hallway and arrived at her office and opened the door.
"I've been waiting for you... uh... two..." said Jasmine.
"Yes... Uh, seems like I overslept, even with my two alarm clocks,"
replied Mamoru.
"Two? I only gave you one."
"Yes, that one and Yuki."
"Yes... You overslept even with Yuki yelling at you... What a lazy
bum!"
"I'm not a lazy bum!"
[Yes, you are,] said Yuki.
"Anyway, I've got something I need you two to do. I know you're both
very capable trainers, and you can do the job now."
"Sure we can."
Jasmine paused for a moment, getting up from her chair examining the
pokéballs stacked in rows upon rows of balls. After a moment, she
continued.
"Not very long ago, only one or two years ago, I was a very talented
trainer. Not much worse than Ash was when I met him. I was a bit less
stubborn and less of a sore loser than he was, though. I'm very sure that
my friends would say I had very little ego then... When I was training, I
collected many different pokémon. My first was an Onix. Or rather it
should have been. When I first started out in Pewter City, far from here,
my hometown, my sensei, the gym leader Brock, gave me an Onix as my first
pokemon. However, when he gave it to me, he had left it with a metal coat.
As such, I started with a Steelix, in all actuality."
She paused again, touching the glass case next to the wooden shelves of
pokéballs, the case in which her Steelix's ball was kept, to emphasize that
point.
"I traveled, collecting many different pokémon, but my favorite type was
the steel type. I caught a Magneton as one of my other first pokémon, and
I've kept it to this day. I traveled and heard of how Scyther could evolve
into Scizor with a Metal Coat. Getting a Scyther by that time was no
problem. The only problem was finding the specific Metal Coat. So far,
I've yet to find it. After I had beaten the all of the gym leaders, I had
heard of different colored pokémon, so I set out to find a different colored
Magneton or Steelix so I could own it. I never found one, so I eventually
gave up when the Indigo League met together after Lorelei left and Agatha
died. It was then that they reworked the Indigo League. The Orange League,
founded almost 10 years earlier didn't have any problems so they stayed out
of the meeting. Anyway, at that meeting, the Indigo League decided to found
the Johto League. Why it was never the Jolt League? I don't know. It
sounds better. Oh, off topic again... Oh, yes... The founded the Johto
League and chose me as leader of the Steel Gym here. So I settled down and
just stayed here in Olivine, maintaining the gym here. They approached Ash
with an offerto be a leader, but he declined. I still don't know what
happened to him after that..."
She sighed and looked out the window into the wilderness beyond.
"Down near Cherrygrove City, Mr. Pokémon has discovered something about the
different color pokémon. He says it has to do with a scale from the elusive
Red Gyarados from several years back. I'd go myself, but I have my gym to
maintain, and I have almost no students who would help me by doing this for
me... What am I saying? I *HAVE* almost no students, except for you two
that is... You two are ready to go out into the world. I trust that you
will make it to Mr. Pokémon, learn about the colored pokémon, and return
here with word for me before doing ANYTHING else. And I need you to take
care of two other things if you hear any word... I need you to try to find
a Metal Coat for my Scyther... And if you hear anything about Ash... Just
tell me."
"Don't worry, we will,"
"Here, take these."
She handed Mamoru several pokéballs, a pokédex and some pokégear.
"Here's some pokéballs. This pokédex will identify pokémon in the wild
for you two. I had it SPECIFICALLY altered for your... ah... condition, so
don't worry about it or the pokégear, which will let you keep in touch with
me. I've already inserted the radio, map, and phone programs into the gear,
so don't worry about those..."
"Thanks."
"Well, that's everything. You go home and pack up, and if you leave
soon enough, you might get to Ecruteak by nightfall. You are dismissed."
"Thank you. Ja ne, Jasmine."
Mamoru left the room and immediately ran back to his small home. He
quickly packed up his things and began to leave his home for a a while, when
Yuki piped up, [HEY! What about my stuff! Only *I* know what I want to
bring. Besides, you've been in charge of the body for some time now...
It's my turn.]
[OK, Yuki...]
Mamoru rolled his eyes, picked up a glass of cold water, and poured it
on himself. He blacked out for several minutes while Yuki took control
immediately. When he woke up in the back of Yuki's mind, she was already
packing *HER* unmentionables (She had changed them while he was out.) She
was soon done, with EVERYTHING in one small backpack.
[It's a miracle! Everything fits!] exclaimed Mamoru, who had had
trouble fitting everything in.
[Ah... Yeah, it's just a little technique I know. I just expanded the
space of the pack to infinity because I just opened the pack to Hammerspace,
so I can fit any amount of anything that can fit through the opening inside
the backpack and keep it int there. Even a long cylindrical tube.]
[That's good. Well, are we ready to go?]
[Ready!]
And so Yuki set out on her, as well as Mamoru's, adventure.
Comments?
Note: The comments of Jasmine may or may not be canon. I do not believe
any of those things were directly established in the PW! rules...
