remember a while ago I tried to right a PW? well it didn't work and i
didn't like how i started it off, so I started a new one. FORGET the whole
first PW I wrote. it NEVER HAPPENED. this one is better.
"Vul-pix. Vul--?" Estolgia moaned as David slammed his backpack against
the wall. The impact made a loud thud, and then immediately fell to the
floor.
"Honey, is that you" Mrs. Chace called from the kitchen.
"Probably," David muttered as he stomped up to her.
"So, how did the drawings go?" she asked cheerfully, trying her best to
ignore David's attitude.
"Pat got the teleport TM, Sadie the scyther, Scott got the $500 certificate
at the pokemart, and Julie got the clefairy."
"And what did you get?" she asked hopefully.
"potion." He muttered.
"Well that's good."
"MOM! I don't have a POKEMON yet!" David yelled annoyingly.
"Why, do you want Estolgia? You could have Estolgia and leave tomorrow if
you want," Mrs. Chace said, knowing David wouldn't accept.
"No, I don't want your pokemon Mom, that's yours." Dave sighed. Perhaps we
could say something about David at this point. A 15 - year old in the 10th
grade at Pewter City High School, he is one of most teenagers, ready to set
out on a pokemon journey of his. Likewise, he is one of most teenagers,
without the means of getting out there. He was about 5 feet, 10 inches
tall, with brown hair, gelled up spiky. He wore a silver/grayish dress
shirt with black baggy pants and Nike running shoes. As a kid he studied
Pokemon profusely with his grandfather, up until his father returned from
overseas and put an end to that. After that he continued to study in
secret, and not to anybody's surprise he became quite an expert on movesets
and team strategy.
His Grandfather - Richard - is an old trainer that once fought against the
elite four, and lost to Lance's Aerodactyl. He has not fought in a trainer
battle since. Instead he turned to the study of TM's, and collected and
created them. He always had a secret project he worked on, and would tell
nobody what move it would be.
"Hey Dave, come over here for a moment, I'd like to show you something!"
David's grandfather, Richard, called from the living room. Dave walked in
and saw Richard was watching the local news. "Listen, listen to this, it's
very exciting," Richard turned up the volume.
"Today a new pokemon professer has moved to Pewter City. His name is Dr.
Mathew Radfits. After four years of intense apprenticeship under Prof. Oak
he has set up his own office next to the Pokemon Center in Pewter Square.
He comes in hope of reviving the Pokemon Care classes at the University, as
well as providing starting pokemon to beginning trainers. He brings his
adopted son Patrick, as well as three pokemon of his own. Later tonight we'
ll be interviewing him at 10:00. Now, back to you Mike."
"So how's that for you Davey boy? Ready to be a pokemon master?" Richard
poked at his grandson.
"Grampa, remember there's a limit on how many trainers a professor can
initiate at once, and it costs a lot of money. Besides, I'm sure he'd
rather pick one of the kids at school that already have a pokemon and
training experience," David said, pessimistically.
"No no no, not Matthew, I was good friends with him in our travels as
trainers, he battled the Elite Fours the day after me and lost to Bruno's
Hitmonlee. That's when he both enrolled into the University. He became
famous for his caring ability towards the Nido-series, which are usually
very untrusting towards humans. And as for not choosing you, that's
bullshit. Matt will not just pick kids out of a hat, he administers a harsh
test, an equivalent to the SAT's. I've trained you enough so that you can
ace it."
"Really? So I'll finally get a starter pokemon?" Dave seemed a little
more interested now.
"Yes. Two, in fact. An eevee, and then you choose from 8 others. Also,
if money is a problem he as access to University scholarships and will
sponsor you. There's NO way your father will be able to say no to this,"
Richard said.
"Wow. Finally. Think we could go see him now?" Dave asked, pulling his
Grandfather up.
"I don't see why not. I'm going to take Estolgia and Simion to the center
tonight anyway, I'll call him up and make an appointment right now."
"Great! Oh thanks so much Grampa, you're awesome," Dave said, rushing
upstairs.
Dave knocked on the door of the stone building in Pewter Square. A muffled
"coming," could be heard from inside.
The door opened and a red-headed boy about Dave's age stood there. "Are
you the Farnums?" he asked.
"I am Richard Farnum, yes, is Matt here?" Dave's grandfather said from
behind David.
"WAAAZZZZZAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHA Rich, it's been a long time, aint it? Come
in, come in," an old man laughed as he edged the boy aside and motioned the
two guests to come in.
"Ten years since the last time I saw you, thirty years since our last
battle, fifty years since we met," Rich counted on his fingers.
"Yes yes, this is my adopted son Patrick. I found him wandering around my
lab one day fooling with Phantom, and I haven't gottne rid of him YET!" he
laughed again, introducing the red-haired boy.
"Hi, my name's Dave, and this is my grampa," Dave said, offering his hand.
Pat shook it.
"You wanna see my pokemon? I'm ready to leave for my journey soon, just as
soon as my packet comes in," Pat said, leading Dave through the hallway.
"See I have two now. Phantom! Halen! I choose you!" He picked to poke
balls up off of a bookshelf and threw them out. I purple Gastly floated out
of one and an Eevee from the other.
"Sweet!" Dave exclaimed.
"I know. I just got Halen about 2 months ago, but I haven't been able to
train him yet since Matt won't let me. And the Gastly belonged to Matt when
he was a beginning trainer, it knows confuse ray, night shade, lick, and
hypnosis right now, but I'm hoping it'll know dream eater for my first gym
battle," Pat went on.
"Awesome. So the second pokemon you get from Matt is one of his old ones?"
Dave asked.
Pat frowned, "No, not at all, Matt just gave me this one because I'm so
good with it. Why, do you wanna see the other eight you can get?"
"Definetly."
"Right this way," Pat said, opening a door and leading him down a flight
of stairs to the basement. He led him to a desk, and showed him the
collection of pokeballs. "They're in here, look at the markings on the ball
and look it up on this key," he showed Dave a piece of paper.
"Heh, Squirtle, Charmander, Bulbasaur, Voltorb, Geodude, Dodou, Meowth, and
Grimer. Good pokemon. All are different types. I like it," Dave
reviewed.
"So which one would you take if you pass the test?" Pat asked.
"I'm not sure. We'll have to see when I pass the test."
"heh." Pat said in response.
"You boys aren't breaking anything down there are you?" Dr. Radfits called
down.
"No sir," Dave and Pat called up.
"Okie well it's time to go Dave, we've got to get to the center before it
closes," Richard called.
"Yep. See you later Pat," and Dave ran up the stairs.
In the center while the Pokemon were being healed, Richard told Dave the
details of his journey. "Okie, you're scheduled to take the test next
Friday with a dozen other children. The results will be annlunced the
following Wednesday, and initiation is the Sunday after that. That's where
you receive your Eevee, and the other one. Also, you get $600 to have in
your pocket, and a special Trainer's Card which gets you discounts at marts,
hotels, and restaurants. Dr. Radfits will choose three new trainers, and
requires them all to stay together in a group for the first year at least,
or else he discontinues his funding."
Dave sat in thought, "so which pokemon would you suggest I choose?"
"Well that's up to you. For four years I've shown you proper move
strategies and how to have proper team makeup. So explain to me your
strategy in picking."
"Squirtle can learn ground attacks through TM, which means it can fight
electric types. It also learn ice moves, which are useful. Charmander
evolves into Charizard, which is flying type. That's useful for evading the
ground attacks that beat fire. Bulbasaur's leech seed is deadly when
combined with toxic. Meowth's pay day is always fun. Voltorb evolves into
Electrode, the fastest pokemon. Dodou's drill peck is the strongest
one-move flying attack. I like tri-attack too. Geodude has great defense
unless I'm fighting ice grass or water pokemon. Also I can never get a
Golem, geodude's highest evolution. Grimer is great because it learns a
variety of TM's, like mega drain which can beat ground types which beat it.
Also acid armor gives great defense."
"So have you whittled your choices down?'
"I like Squirtle's variety of TM compatibility, I like Grimer's acid armor,
and I like Voltorb's evolution. Everything else has more obvious flaws. I
could get a water pokemon or an electric pokemon out of Eevee, and if I took
Squirtly it would mean I'd be stupid to evolve it to Vaporean, and if I took
Voltorb it'd be stupid to evolve it to Joleteon. I don't wanna choose Eevee
's evolution yet, so I'll go with Grimer."
"Do you see what you just did Dave? You thought through all possibilities
and chose the best answer. When you battle your pokemon, you must do the
same thing. Four attacks on a pokemon. Don't just jump into one attack.
Think about each one, and how it could be countered, and how you would
counter that counter. There is no such thing as an unimportant battle,"
Richard lectured.
The two continued in their discussion of movesets, and about fifteen
minutes later their number was called and the Sandslash and Vulpix were
returned to them.
David studied harder than ever the next week. Without his father's
interference, who was overseas on business, Dave had full permission to
practice pokemon. Richard quizzed him, and David's mother gave David
permission to take the next three days out of school.
Eventually Saturday morning rolled along and David reported to Dr. Radfits's
university classroom for the all-important test. Gathered in the room were
fourteen other people, ranging from age 11 to 17. Five were classmates of
David. Two younger kids played Pokemon TCG in the corner, while several
others gathered around to watch. Dave took a seat next to Patrick.
"So why are you taking this test? I thought you'd definitly be in," Dave
asked.
"Me? Hell no Matt's too strict for that. He says he refuses to let me out
into the Pokemon World alone until he know's I'm ready, and he says he's not
going to be there to help me if I screw up for something I should've known,"
Pat complained.
"Ah, I see. At least your Dad cares. My Dad's overseas doing business, but
I know if I told him about this he wouldn't let me go. I just hope I'm off
and won my first badge before he returns to tell me to get back home."
"Why wouldn't he let you go?"
"When he was my age he had a Golbat that he raised too much. The Golbat
went crazy, didn't listen to his orders, and almost killed him. My Dad
stayed in critical condition for almost a year. He says pokemon are
dangerous and unsafe. My brother obeyed his orders and went off to college
in Vermillion, where he's studying law, so I'm expected to follow in his
footsteps I guess."
"That sucks," Pat replied, not knowing what to say next.
"Good luck Pat," Dave said as the Doctor walked in.
"Thanks you do," Pat said.
"Okay people, the test is being handed out to you now. No. 2 pencils only.
If you are caught cheating.."
Three hours later:
"Okay people, the test is being collected at this time. Please put down
your pencils and no more corrections or marking please. Thank you. Please
exit to your left, and the results shall be posted Wednesday.
The children all filed out of the room. Some were sweaty messes, others
were skipping along, some were trying to act as if they'd never taken the
test and were just coming inside from a game of soccer. Dave didn't see Pat
anywhere, he must have stayed in with Dr. Radfits, Dave decided.
"Hi Hon! How'd it go?" David's mother was waiting in the parking lot by
the car.
"Great I guess. Some of the questions were pretty easy, but a bunch were
wicked tough too. We'll have to see."
"Like what was one of the hard questions?"
"Is comet punch a fighting move or a normal attack? Or how does a Jynx's
speed compare to a Magmar's?" Dave said.
Dave's mom just smiled. "I'm sure you'll do fine."
heh
obviously, to be continued.
oh my god oh my god what's gonna happen? like it's not obvious.
