A bell jingled as he walked through the door, and he took a seat at the counter. Ordering a coffee and French toast, Jake picked up a paper and began leafing through it. As he skimmed through it, two men in black jumpsuits approached him. The waiter who was placing Jake?s breakfast on the table gulped audibly and shrunk back into the kitchen. One of them, a tall slim man with a crooked nose laughed and snorted, the sound causing Jake to wince slightly. ?Well well, Billy, look at what we have here.? ?Leave me alone.? Jake said simply, taking a sip of his coffee. ?Don?t you know who we are? We?re the Flub Brothers!? the second brother spoke up, a portly man, short and bald. ?And you need to pay us a tax, just like everyone else.? ?No. Now if you don?t mind, I?m trying to eat breakfast.? Jake turned his back to them, and went back to reading the paper. The two men fumed, and Billy held up a Pokeball. ?Listen, either give us all your money, or we?ll settle this the old fashioned way!? Jake sighed, and finished his breakfast, leaving a few bucks and a generous tip. ?Alright, if it?ll shut you two idiots up.? He walked outside the diner, onto a lone patch of grass. The two brothers stumbled behind him, and looked at each other. ?All yours, dear brother.? Bob smirked, stepping back. ?Alright, get ready buddy. Now you?ll learn what happens when you mess with the brothers Flub!? ?Whatever. Go Magus!? Jake tossed out Magus?s Pokeball, and the spunky Nidoran appeared. ?How cute?I choose you, Electabuzz!? An angry looking Electabuzz appeared, shaking its fists. Pulling out his Pokedex, Jake pointed it at the yellow and black Pokemon. ?Electabuzz. This Electric type Pokemon can generate up to 500 watts of electricity from its antenna, and is prone to violent mood swings when it sees the color red.? Snapping his Pokedex shut, Jake considered bringing out Vegeta, but decided against it. The disobedient Charmander wouldn?t be much help if Electabuzz got enraged. ?Magus, Horn Attack!? Magus rushed forward, driving his horn into the belly of the Electabuzz, but the larger Pokemon just laughed and swatted him away. Charging up, Electabuzz unleashed a Thunderbolt that knocked Magus back several feet. Running over to him, Jake picked up the still smoking Nidoran. ?That?s ok, you did your best.? He recalled Magus to his Pokeball. ?Alright, you?ve won. Satisfied?? ?Actually, no. We?re gonna take your money, and your Pokemon for ourselves.? Bob ran at Jake, and tried to grab the two Pokeballs on his belt. Raising his left knee, Jake slammed it into the crotch of the tall man, causing him to topple over in pain. Glaring at Billy, who stood dumbfounded, Jake rolled the fallen oaf onto his back and placed a foot to his neck. ?You disgust me. You might have strong Pokemon, but I?m sure that?s only because you stole them from some innocent trainer. Now I?m going to walk away, and you will not bother anyone else ever again. Do I make myself clear?? Jake lifted his foot, and Bob rolled to the side, coughing. The two brothers took off in a flash, and Jake shrugged. He walked down the block to the Pokemon Center, and handed the Pokeball with Magus over to Nurse Joy. Taking a seat next to a man holding a Jigglypuff, he took a small map from out of his pocket. It showed a route that trainers could follow, that would allow them to travel from one town to the next, collecting badges. When Nurse Joy handed him back the Pokeball, Jake thanked her and walked out, heading straight for the Viridian City gym. When he got there however, he found a man dressed in a white suit with a large ?R? blocking the door. ?You can?t get in unless you have the other seven badges.? Jake sighed, and turned away, heading up the path to Pewter. When he got there, he wasted no time, going into the gym and shaking Brock from a quiet sleep. ?So?another trainer wants the boulder badge, eh? Well, I won?t go down without a fight! Go, Onix!? A giant stone snake appeared, causing Jake to take a few steps back. He released Vegeta, who practically drooled at the chance to fight such a challenge. ?Vegeta, try to scratch out its eyes!? Vegeta looked at Jake for a moment, and flipped him off. Leaping on top of Onix?s head, he pounded his small fists into the rock Pokemon?s skull, causing it to roar in anger. The blows didn?t hurt much, but how dare the inferior fire creature think it could ride a majestic warrior like Onix? Raising its tail high, Onix proceeded to rain down a shower of rocks, most of which missed Vegeta completely. One such rock hit him however, but Vegeta wasn?t going to let that stop him. Insulting the Onix in his native tongue, Vegeta leapt up and into the mouth of the Onix as it roared in anger. By now, both trainers had lost any hope of controlling their Pokemon, and were forced to stand back and wait to see who came out victorious. Within Onix?s stone body, Vegeta was setting fire to its insides, causing Onix to shake all around the gym, knocking against the walls. Finally, it collapsed to the ground with a loud thud, and Vegeta jumped out, battered, but victorious. ?Hmm?your Charmander has some interesting strategy. I must commend that.? Jake shrugged. ?He doesn?t listen to me, so don?t think I trained him to do that. It was risky and stupid.? Brock rubbed his chin, and recalled the fainted Onix. ?Still, you have beaten me. I coincide defeat.? He handed over the Boulder Badge, which Jake pinned onto a small cloth. He walked out, not even bothering to recall Vegeta. The small Charmander shrugged, and followed behind, not wanting to lose his free meal ticket. After a half-hour of walking or so, Jake decided to make camp outside Mt Moon. Tomorrow they would proceed through the mountain, and into Cerulean City, where Jake would get his second badge. While Jake rested, Vegeta had wandered off to train himself, and Magus was satisfied with watching the afternoon sky drift by slowly. Unknown to Jake, or the two Pokemon, a female was watching from the shadows. She stood silently, clutching a small pendant in her hand.
