Bored with the ride, Spunky decided to take a swipe at his dozing sister's tail, sparking a brief scratching match and ending with a lot of growling. Sarah Jane stared out the window as the van rolled on. Damian tried to strike up a conversation, but Sarah Jane's responses were few and far between. "Man, she must really be bummed out about losing," whispered Jon to Damian. Damian shrugged. He had the feeling that more was bothering her, but didn't feel comfortable asking her out in the open. Before Damian could reply, another round of snarling came from the Nidoran on his lap. "Stop it you two," said Sarah Jane sharply. The two backed down and continued to glare at each other. "You know, right now would probably be a good time for a rest break," suggested Mrs. Eckert. "I could go for a cold drink." "Sounds great," said Kat. Everyone else was quick to agree, except for Sarah Jane, who was again staring out the window. Dr. Eckert pulled off the main road to a small Brock's Diner. Everyone got out of the van and stretched. Sarah Jane attached Cuddles and Spunky's leashes, then handed Cuddles' leash to Shields. The Mr. Mime accepted the leash with a salute.
