"As soon as we're packed up and refresh our supllies. We should also see what Runt wants to do." "Want's to do about what?" asked Runt as he walked into the kitchen. "Want to head on to Viridian? Sarah Jane, Jon, and I need one more badge before we can face the Elite Four," said Damian. "I'll tag along for right now. It might be a good idea to see what I'll eventually be up against," replied Runt. "Then that's settled," said Jon. "Let's head out." He pushed back his chair and stood. "Aren't you forgetting a few things?" asked Damian. "What?" asked Jon. "Like packing our things, retrieving our pokemon, and thanking our hosts," replied Runt. "Oh yeah..." said Jon sheepishly. --- About 2 hours later, the four trainers were standing at the gate to the grounds. Several pokemon milled around. Shields, newly returned from the pokemon center, glared at Fantasma. The Haunter appeared to be ingratiating herself to Sarah Jane. After a brief bout with Bubble Gum the Chansey earlier over Pteryx, the Mr. Mime wasn't in a good mood. "Too bad Nipper won't shed his shell for another few weeks," said Dr. Eckert as he hugged his granddaughter. "I could lend you my Kingler, if you like." "I think my Starmie and Tangela should be able to handle it, with my Dewgong as backup," said Sarah Jane. "I'll try to train my Oddish on the way, and there's always Shields." "Take care sweetie," said Lillian as she kissed Sarah Jane's cheek. Runt recalled most of his pokemon back into their Pokeballs. "Anyone see Kreskin?" "Last seen he was looking for Ariel," said Damian. "You know," said a research assistant with an Arcanine on a leash, "it's nearly time for the Butterfree mating season?" "No wonder he's been chasing Ariel," said Runt. "We'll see what happens along the way. KRESKIN, LET'S GO!" he shouted. <Aw come on boss....> said Kreskin as he flew out from a tree. <I nearly found her....> "We're heading out." ---- They were on the road for about a half hour when Sarah Jane paused. "Come on Tama-negi," she called as she tossed out a pokeball. "What gives?" asked Jon as Sarah Jane's Oddish appeared. "Tama-negi needs some more training," explained Sarah Jane. "I'm hoping to get some training in on the way. "How far are we from Viridian?" asked Jon. "It's not exactly a straight run. It would seem more direct if we went right to Viridian, but there are a lot of mountains, wide rivers, etc between there and Rosetta. Hiking could take well over a week. Swinging through Pallet, then north, will take a lot less time and will be safer. We should be in Pallet by nightfall. Then it's only a few hours to Viridian." Suddenly, there was a rush of air and a flutter of wings. A flock of Pidgeys, startled by the travellers, took flight. "Too bad we didn't ask your aunt if we could borrow a couple of her Pidgeot," said Jon. "I'm not the one who was in a rush," said Sarah Jane. "But remember, travelling on foot gives us some extra training time." - TBC
