John applied a Revive and Ariel backed off from the battle. The two >combatents looked at each other. >John's fingers twitched around the Pokéball of Wraps, his Tangela. "Got anything else?" he asked. "Well, I did sort of say that the time limit was when Rilli came out... and I kind of remember saying that it was going to be a three on three battle... but since we got carried away in the heat of the moment, let's keep going! Besides, I haven't won yet, so I have to keep going..." Robert motions to his Gengar, gesturing his desire that the ghost fight in the next battle. Robert's Gengar shakes his head, sticks out his tongue, and wraps his short arm around his wife, Rilli's Haunter, who is playing with her newborn Gastly. Robert sighs and pulls the yellow and brown Pokeball off his belt, "It's risky since she's angry at me for neglecting her, but she's my only chance. Go, Raichu!" Robert tosses the Pokeball onto the grass of Rilli's front yard. John draws his Pokeball about as quickly as an old-fashioned cowboy would his gun and throws it. John's Pokeball hits the ground moments before Robert's does. After two bright flashes of light, a bundle of blue grass known as Wraps the Tangela is facing off against a tall, shapely Raichu who stands on on her haunches. Electricity arcs from Raichu's yellow cheeks. She clenches her brown fists and narrows her eyes, "Raiii..." She searches around with her eyes, ultimately turning around to face Robert. The mouse Pokemon glares at her trainer, "Raichu, Rai... Raichu Rai Rai! Rrrrr..." "This should be simple enough." John laughs, seeing his Tangela in no imminent danger. Wraps actually seems rather confused by the Raichu's actions, aware that most Pokemon have a natural desire to fight for their trainers. When John says, "Wraps, Sleep Powder," the Tangela is happy to obey him. Wraps waddles up behind Raichu and shudders, releasing blue powder from underneath her multitude of vines. The power hits Raichu and she gets knocked out while still growling at Robert. Robert's eyes widen when he sees John's Pokemon put his Raichu to sleep, "Uhm, Rilli, can you tell me what the heck this thing is? I thought it was a Jigglypuff covered with shoelaces or a Geodude who spilled spaghetti on itself, but it can use Sleep Powder! To paraphrase from a popular song: What kind of Pokemon is that? How does it do the things it does?" Mithril-rama shakes her head, "I'm not sure, but I think it's a rare Grass Pokemon. Use your Pokedex to find out. Since Raichu looks like she's really enjoying her nap, I think you have plenty of time to whip it out... Uh, the Pokedex I mean." John glances at Rilli, "Of course you meant the Pokedex. No one questioned what you wanted Robert to whip out." Rilli sweatdrops and giggles nervously, "Sorry! Force of habit." "Riiiight." John points at Robert's resting Raichu, "Wraps, Bind that Raichu. That way she won't be able to fight when she does finally wake up... or should I say IF she finally wakes up?" The Tangela nods, almost falling over in the process since by nodding she has to tip over her entire body, and two blue vines shoot out of her sides. One vine curls underneath Raichu's bosom and the other ties her legs together, making it unable for her to move, and hurting her in the process. Meanwhile, Robert's finally managed to pluck the Pokedex off his belt. It had been on there so long, that it hard started to stick. He flips open the lid of the small red device and clicks a button. The Pokedex says, "Raichu, the evolved form of..." Robert hits the keypad with a closed fist and listens at it says, "Bind, an attack that lasts for..." He throws the Pokedex on the ground and starts pulling at his hair until he hears the device say, "Tangela, a Grass Type... Pok...eh...mo..." The small light on the Pokedex goes out, then the screen shuts off. Robert lowers one eyebrow as he kneels down to pick up the malfunctioning Pokedex, "Either it's out of batteries or I just broke my only Pokedex. No big deal - I'll just have to rely on my wits!" Both John and Mithril-rama stare at Robert for a moment, as the young man rubs his chin with one eyebrow lowered slightly. Wraps continues to Bind Raichu, who is becoming weaker and is on the verge of fainting. Robert snaps his fingers, "That's it!" He reaches into his pocket and pulls out his Pokeflute. He places the musical instrument on his lips and blows into it. The horrible noise that is produced not only awakens Raichu, but it also causes Wraps to wince in pain so much that the vines that the Tangela is using to hold Raichu down become flaccid enough for Raichu to break free of them! Robert shouts, "You don't want to lose just to spite me, do you Raichu? Use your Swift attack on that Tangela!" "Chuuu..." Raichu manages to stand up despite the ringing in her ears. She concentrates and tiny bright stars fly from her cheeks towards Tangela. The pointy edges of the Swift stars slice away at some of Wraps' vines. John's Tangela backs away, afraid that Raichu will cut away at all of the vines, revealing what Wraps looks like underneath the foliage. Once Wraps is too far away from Raichu to be considered a threat to the mouse, Raichu covers her large ears with her paws. Robert stops playing his Pokeflute and puts the handy instrument back into his pocket. He tries to remember what other attacks his Raichu has, then recalls one that he hasn't asked her to use yet, "Raichu's going to give your Tangela a taste of... uhm... it's own medicine! Raichu, Thunder Wave!" Raichu removes her paws from her ears and uses on to scratch the side of her head, "Rai?" She scans her memory banks, trying to remember how to perform the move. Raichu recalls the first time that she had to save Robert from a flock of angry Pidgeys, and the second time, and how pitiful he was on both occasions... She remembers how he wanted to protect her from the angry Raichu in Stone Town... At that moment, she realizes that she's become what she hated. She's become a Raichu. When she was a Pikachu, she promised herself that no matter what happened when she evolved, she wouldn't become as mean as Raichus were to her. Yet here she is, treating Robert horribly ever since the moment she evolved, "Raaai..." "Wraps, Mega Drain the energy out of that Raichu before she uses Thunder Wave!" John shouts, reminding Raichu that she's in the middle of a battle. Wraps stands tall, vines swaying in the breeze, determined to win this match for John. What Wraps doesn't know is that now Raichu wants to win the match for her trainer as well. Raichu's eyes narrow due to determination instead of anger, and she charges up her electric cheeks. Memories of the Viridian Forest soar through her mind rapidly as she searches her memory for the mechanics of the Thunder Wave attack that Robert has asked her to perform. Wraps the Tangela advances, ready to Drain whatever small amount of energy remains within the Electric Mouse. Raichu's eyes light up when she remembers the way the Pikachu in her tribe stunned intruders, "Raiii..." Bright yellow waves of electricity blast out of Raichu's yellow cheeks and surround the area around her, "CHUUUU!" The Thunder Wave attack paralyzes Wraps. "Yeah, the Tangela's Paralyzed!" Robert cheers, raising his arms as if he's already won, "Now keep using Quick Attack!" John shrugs at the fact that Wraps is Paralyzed, "Big deal. Wraps MAY not attack. Chances are, Mega Drain will still hit." John's Tangela tries to focus on the Mega Drain attack, but the uncontrollable spasms caused by Thunder Wave ruins Wrap's concentration. Raichu, on the other hand, is able to focus what energy remains within her to Attack Quickly! After a few Quick Attacks from Raichu, Wraps faints. John sighs, "I would have won if I had stopped after Vileplume fainted." John points his Pokeball and Wraps and calls the creature back home, "But the battle was just for fun anyway, right?" Robert smiles, walks over to John, and shakes his hand, "That's right. When you challenge me at the Diversity Gym, we'll play by the rules and I'm sure you'll win an Oasis Badge! Your Pokemon are well-trained, especially the mermaid." While Robert talks with John about Pokemon strategies, Raichu's ears perk up when she sees something odd behind John. She thinks that the guy is hiding a fellow Raichu from her, so she runs behind him on all fours. Her eyes widen when she sees the Raichu tail growing out of the back of his pants. She points at John's tail and starts raving hysterically, "Rai?! Raichu, Rai... Raichu, RAICHU!" Gengar curiously floats over, points at John's butt, and laughs, "Gen, gen, gen, GENGAR!" He motions for Haunter to come look at the spectacle, and Haunter leads Gastly and Rilli over to stare at John's behind. Robert's conversation with John is cut short when he notices all the people gathering around John, "Hey, what's going on?" Gengar laughs and explains to his trainer what Raichu was saying that John's tail looked like, "Gengar, gen, gengar, gengar!" Robert chuckles, "Put a Raichu up his what?! Heh, that reminds me of the time that Snorlax had a Primeape in her... Wait a minute, if it's NOT what Raichu thinks it is, which I hope it's not, then John must either have a tail or think it's Halloween!" "Yes, I have a Raichu tail." John routinely explains, "I've had it since I was born." Mithril-rama is intrigued by the strange appendage, but is afraid to touch it. Gengar and Haunter are much more presumptuous, so they start rubbing their undead hands all over it. Gengar grabs the tail and starts twirling it as if it was a jump rope and Haunter starts bobbing up and down around it as it spins while Gastly decides to suck on the tip that Gengar is holding as if it's a pacifier. Rilli tries prevent the ghosts from behaving disrespectfully by wagging her finger at them while scolding them, "Stop that, Haunter! You too, Gengar. You're being mean to John and setting a bad example for Gastly!" Robert nods, "I agree. We should take their minds off John's tail by celebrating my birthday! Do you have something planned, Rilli?" "Your birthday? Isn't your birthday in March?" Rilli grabs Robert's arm and looks at his wristwatch, "Why, it's May already, Robert! Your birthday was almost two months ago." Robert scratches his head, wondering why he thought it was his birthday today, then April Fools Day, and now today happens to be some day in May. Seeing Robert's confused look, Rilli comforts him, "But we can still party if you want to. We can even invite John! Should I go change into something nicer?" Robert doesn't have to think too much before shaking his head, "No way! Let's party right now. Considering how long it took you to answer the door, if you have to change into a different outfit, when we eventually do party, we'll be partying like it's 2099... because it will be!" Seeing beyond his girlfriend's chuckle and noticing that she looks a little saddened by his mocking tone, Robert kisses Rilli's cheek, "Aww, I still love you, Rilli! You know how much I adore Slowpokes!" -Robert
