From: jon underscore f at sailormoon.com (jonf911@aol.comSailorV) Subject: [PW!][NC] Reruns: A Dedicate Future, a Proud Past! Newsgroups: alt.games.nintendo.pokemon Date: 2000/06/26 This was a PW!-based fanfic I ran in the Poke-zine a while ago. Enjoy! NOTE: The character used is Jon from the PW!. He is NC in every respect and should not be confused. However, his description, Pokemon, etc. are the same. </NOTE> "Jolteon! Quick! Thunderbolt!" The small electric Pokemon dove at its opponent across the ring, painted red for the League Cup. Jon was in his semifinal match, trying to earn support to earn the right to challenge the Elite 4. Jolteon began to glow a bright white. It shot out electricity at its opponent, a Hypno. The Hypno was knocked down, but recovered itself and returned to battle. The other trainer smirked. "Hypno! Use your special attack!" The Hypno began to power up. Its pocket watch began to twirl, and its psi powers began to build. Jon grimaced. He had seen this attack before. It had killed an Arbok, then and there. He couldn't let that happen to Jolteon. Jon ran from the sidelines. He dove in front of Jolteon, holding out its Pokeball. Just then, the Hypno reached its full power. It shot out a bright psychic energy wave, while hurling out its watch. Jon flew in front of Jolteon at the right moment. However, the energy smashed into his body, followed shortly by the watch, instead of into Jolteon. At once his head began to spin. Numbers began to fly past, then dance. Jon could only feel himself floating, as if in a dream. Suddenly, it was shattered, and he fell to the ground. MEANWHILE... Nurse Joy and several Chanseys ran into the stadium. They came to the fallen trainer, limp and lifeless. The remnants of the Mt. Moon Crew, Sarah Jane and Damian, rushed from the stands. A Chansey noticed the open Pokeball and pointed. Jolteon was still there. "Jolt... jolt jolteon!" <WHERE'S JON! NOW!> Sarah Jane soothed it a bit. MEANWHILE... Jon pulled himself up from the nasty hole he had fallen into. He brushed off his vest and his pants and looked to his side. "Let's see... Ninetales, Dragonair, Pidgeot, Kadabra, Ivysaur... where's Jolteon?" Jon called out Ninetales, his most loyal Pokemon. "Ninetales... what happened to Jolteon?" "Nine! Nine! Tales! Ninetales! Tales! Nine!" It mimiced a battle. Jon was struck. "Oh, yeah, I remember...the Hypno..." Ninetales nodded. It took Jon this long to notice he was in a grassy patch in a pack of woods. The sun shined brightly, and the leaves shimmered. "Sure is nice... I wonder where we are..." Jon pulled out the Pokedex. "Shoot.. I smashed the data in the fall. Well... we may as well start finding someone. Maybe they can help..." He began to wander through the woods. Soon enough, Ninetales found a dirt road. Jon and Pokemon proceeded along it, coming abreast of a horse cart. The man looked at the Ninetales and stared at Jon. "Young man! Where did you steal that from?!" Jon looked at him blankly. "Huh?" "Don't you know it's a crime to possess Pokemon outside of the League?" "No..." "It's been a rule for 10 years!" Something was wrong. Something didn't feel right. "What year is this, exactly?" "1965, good lord willing." Jon stopped. That was 30... years...ago. He had been transported into the past. <Part Break> Jon waved goodbye to the man in the cart, and sat down on a small log. He had no idea what was going on, or where he was. Was this even real?! He remembered the squashed electronic in his pocket, and grabbed the smashed Pokedex. Jon again studied it, and, to his dismay, again could not fix it. "Shoot. We'll have to keep looking for help, then..." he said to Ninetales. Jon and Pokemon resumed walking. Very soon, they reached a small village full of people and houses. Jon descended the hill in front of the town and began walking on the cobblestone. As he headed through town, people seemed to regard him with a suspicious look. When Jon asked one for the time, the citizen ran away quickly. The same occurred while trying to find the Police Station. Jon began to despair. He started down another side street and moped. Suddenly, a door flung open, and two strong pairs of hands pulled him into a small room, lit by a candle. When Jon recovered, he turned to face the hands' owners. He was surprised to see two boys his age, surrounded by electronics and Pokemon stuff. Each boy carried a Pokeball at his waist. The smaller one looked at Jon. "Are you nuts?! Walking through the streets with a Pokemon out of its Pokeball?! You're not in the league, what are you even doing with one?!" Jon leaned up. "No, actually, I'm applying for badges for the Pokemon league, and I have over 10 Pokemon! What are you talking about!?" The boys stared blankly. "10 Pokemon?! Badges?!" Jon nodded. Suddenly, it struck him. He was in the past, and if he remembered correctly, things had been different... most Pokemon were wild and uncatchable... He quickly explained the story of the Hypno, and all of his technology. As Jon finished, he thought of something. "Who are you guys, anyway?" The two replied, "I'm Bill. And this is my friend, Oak. We study Pokemon aids and computer things. Oak does the research, and I work on the systems." Jon looked. "Like what?" Bill held up a Pokeball. "Like this. The first prototype Pokemon ball. You can use it to catch Pokemon! There's only two in existance!" Jon looked sheepish. "I hate to break it to you, but..." Jon produced 20 something Great balls from his pocket. The boys were oohing and ahhing over the device, when suddenly a loud knock came at the door. Oak turned white. "The League! They've busted us! Jon, the league is evil! Only they can possess Pokemon! We'll all be trounced for even seeing one! Quick, hide!" Bill was a little slower. "Wait, Jon... you came from the future... maybe this can get you back." He tossed Jon a small disc, shaped like a watch. "I've got way too much free time... just press it!" Bill and Oak returned to covering up their large Pokemon machines and storage. As they were finishing, a teen busted through the door. "LANCE! LORELEI! GET IN HERE NOW!" Jon stared at the small disc. He was about to press the button when a bunch of Wigglytuff came flying through the door. The balloon Pokemon exploded into the machinery, destroying all the equipment and throwing Bill and Oak across the room. The two boys smashed into Jon, just as he was depressing the trigger. The three were grabbed together and sucked into the small vortex as the first. Soon, the continuum ended, and Bill, Oak, and Jon fell to the ground. A giant Aerodactyl swooped at them, followed by a bunch of Spearows. The land was desolate. Jon turned white now. "Oh, shoot..." Each of the three grabbed one of Jon's Pokeballs and threw them airward... <Part Break> The three Pokeballs flew skyward. Three of Jon's Pokemon came out. "Pidgeot! Kadabra! Dragonair!" "Pidgeot!" <WTF?> "Kadabra!" <Gets more cramped every time...> "Dragonair!" <Well, it's been, one week... oh, wait, it's battle time!> Jon looked at the three. "Pidgeot! Handle that Fearow flock with Whirlwind! Kadabra! Psychic that Aerodactyl down! Dragonair, clean up after 'em!" The powerful bird built up a storm, sending it at the oncoming Fearow. It smashed into them, knocking them down to the ground. Jon's Psi Pokemon focused its energy at the swooping rock bird. It sent out a powerful beam, sending Aerodactyl crashing. Dragonair jumped up and slammed the Aerodactyl all the way down to the ground. It then hyper beamed one lone Fearow still attacking. At last, the air was clear. Bill and Oak stared in amazement. "Powerful!" they said in unison. Bill pulled the Pokeball from his side. "May as well see if it works..." he threw it at the downed Aerodactyl. The ball behaved like any other, converting it to energy and slamming shut. Soon, its red light went out. Bill whooped. "It works! It works! Alright!" He returned the ball to his side. Just then, their surroundings struck the three. They were in a flat land, barren. The only evidence of humans was a wheel bent and rusted by the road side. Oak looked around. "Isn't familiar to me..." Jon peered at something in the distance. "It is to me. That, over there, is Azure Mountain. This flat land is Indigo Plateau. This is where I was battling before I left. Certainly has changed though..." Bill was silent. He thought again. "I wonder what day it is, though. Maybe my machine miscalculated. Can I see your Pokedex again, Jon?" Jon pulled out the red computer. "Sure." Bill grabbed a few tools from his pocket. "I think I can help it." He began to tinker with the hand-held device. Soon enough, a beep was heard. He returned it to Jon. "It's not perfect, but, I think it will work..." Jon flipped it open. "Pokedex, program Info." "I am a Poke.. <static> program <static> for Pok<static> trainer Jon, of <static> abar." "Good. Your memory's intact. Now, how about the date and time, 'dex." "The current t<static> is 4:0<static> PM, <static> 20, <static> 99." Jon looked at it. "That can't be right. I had that match at 4 PM, on that same day. Pokedex, how much time has passed since the time of that match?" "8 <static> utes." "It must be right. The opponent's Hypno was his last Pokemon. But something's not right..." Jon mused. "Perhaps we should find someone... if they exist..." said Bill. "There must have been a town around somewhere..." Jon nodded. "Cerulean City is just east of here. We can walk there." Oak and Bill nodded in agreement. They saddled up and started walking. The trip there was interrupted several times by wild Pokemon, including more birds and several dangerous Ground Pokemon. Everything seemed wilder than it should be... Soon enough, they were on the streets of Cerulean. But it was hardly recognizable. The buildings were broken down and trashed. Rubble was everywhere. Jon passed the gym building, and found where the Pokemon Center was. It was in better condition than most of the buildings, with the first floor all intact. The three crawled inside. Some skeletons were picked clean on the floor. The posters half-hung from the walls, and the video phones were smashed. Even the hospital part was in disarray. Bill noticed that the one main computer screen was on. The trio walked behind the counter. Jon sat down at the desk and looked at the screen. "Nurse Joy's Journal. Cerulean Pokemon Center. "Entry 4: Pokemon continue to become wilder and wilder. No one can handle them. Often, the tame Pikachu are brought in, missing arms bitten off by Nidorinos. Several men are killed by Kangaskhan each day. If only they could be controlled. "Entry 5: It grows worse. Several species of Pokemon were declared extinct today, eaten by the more powerful ones. The whole town of Saffron was destroyed today by its Pokemon. "Entry 6: Cerulean, Cinnabar, and Celadon cities are the only ones left. The world's population has been decreased to 1/10 of its original. The hordes of Pokemon continue to attack. The videophone is ringing... only my mauled cousin from Cinnabar is there... the Elite 4 are coming in the door... Nidokings approaching...only us left... oh, no... Lorelei is being dragged back outside...this is it... ahhhhhhhhhh.!..........." The journal ended abruptly. Bill, Oak, and Jon leaned back. Oak spoke first. "The Pokemon of the world got too wild to be controlled. They took out all the people and the cities. Only the strong survived." Bill was still in shock. All Jon could do was think. He soon spoke. "Something happened, something changed to cause this! When I went back in time, the timeline of the world got altered... what is different?" Jon noticed the Pokeball at Bill's side. "That's it! The Wigglytuff exploding into the machinery! It exploded into your Pokeball experimentation machine. It must have destroyed the Pokeball technology! Without it, the world never controlled their Pokemon!" The revelation hit Oak and Bill. Bill recovered and thought. "What if we change the timeline?" <Part Break> Jon hid behind the closed door, biding his time as the Wigglytuff flew toward the machinery. He watched as the Pokemon flew into the Aerodactyl. Seeing the shot deflected, Jon grabbed the small time transport disc. He held it out and pressed the button. The vortex appeared for a minute. It shimmered, held, broke, and reappeared. Jon was flung once again forward through time. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------ Meanwhile, in the time of Oak and Bill... The teenage Bruno kicked the remnants of the door down. Seeing the two frightened children, he placed down his gun and motioned to the others to do so. "You... where'd that Aerodactyl come from?" Bill held up the Pokeball. "It came from in here." Lance stepped over. "So, it gets stored in there?" Bill and Oak nodded. Lance looked. "Practical. We need to show this to people." Bruno nodded. Oak stepped up. "Here, why don't you guys keep the Pokemon Ball and the Aerodactyl... kinda like a present?" The three stared for a minute. Lance spoke. "Thanks. We'll be going." Bill and Oak breathed a sigh of relief. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------ Back in the arena, Jon's body twitched. The haze over his eyes began to lift. They fluttered... then opened. He could see his friends...some lights... the Nurse Joy... "He's almost there! C'mon, Jolteon, shock him!" Jon felt a sudden jolt. He flew up into the air, suddenly fully awake. He smashed down to the ground. "Welcome back!" barked Jolteon. Jon felt around. All 6 Pokeballs were at his side. The other trainer stood beside a charred Hypno. The referee pointed to Jon's Jolteon, and then to the scoreboard, which read "WIN!" Realizing that everything had been restored, Jon began to chuckle. A Pokemon League agent ran up to him. "That move...of the Hypno... has been banned. You're safe? Good. And thanks...for your time." He ran away. Jon turned away for a minute. He recognized the name on the name tag. "Bill." FIN
