...sometime around now.
Raine looked around her nervously. To her amazement, the police hadn't put
in an appearance yet despite the warzone which Celadon's high street had
become. The couple of news teams brave enough to approach were keeping at a
safe distance, filming the scene without getting too close. She should
probably object, she thought, but if being videotaped was the worst thing to
happen to her for the rest of the day, she couldn't really complain.
Raine was beginning to feel slight pangs of guilt after flushing
Spaceghost's Pokéball, but she put it down to the fact that she hadn't eaten
yet. Meche, set to her side, was staring vaguely into the distance, and
failed to notice the young man approaching her until he was almost on top of
the pair. Her nerves already somewhat frayed after their earlier encounter,
the Marowak leapt to her feet, brandishing her club in anger.
"Wak! Marowak!"
"Meche!" Raine exclaimed, surprised at her Pokémon's uncharacteristic
aggression. "We don't need any more destruction today, okay? Just calm
down a little..."
The young man, having backed off a little, regained his composure. As Raine
looked at him, taking in his somewhat unusual clothing and the Psyduck by
his side, something occured to her. It wasn't quite his stance, or the way
he looked, but something about the man told her that he could leap into
action before she could even react.
"Hello?" repeated the man. Raine patted Meche on the head in what she
thought was a pacifying gesture. The Marowak crossed her arms grumpily and
returned to staring at the horizon. She thought she could hear police
sirens in the distance.
"Hi!" replied Raine brightly. "Erm... you might be wondering about all
this..."
With a dramatic sweep of her arm, she took in the entire street scene in its
devastated glory. The TV crews were cautiously approaching.
"I suppose so," answered the man. "I take it the street doesn't usually
look like this."
"No..." began Raine. "See, I have - no, wait, used to have - this
Haunter..."
"Haunter?" asked the young man.
"Not from around here, are you?" asked Raine, intrigued.
"Not by quite a long way..." said the man wistfully. "So this 'haunter' did
all of this?"
"Yup." Raine nodded her head. "I'd be impressed if he'd just stuck to
battling like a *normal* Pokémon..."
Meche tapped her trainer on the shoulder. From their left, the second
stranger was wandering back over to them.
"Hello again," said Raine. This was turning into quite a social event. The
Marowak could definitely hear the police now. Another thought drifted into
Raine's cluttered mind.
"Look, before we all tell our life stories, can we adjourn this to somewhere
else? You can probably get that Fearow healed up at the superstore..."
And, she thought, she and Meche might have a better chance of avoiding
arrest if Cooper and his impressive collection of parking offences were in
the vicinity...
