His face registered no emotion at all as he studied the crowd in front of the stage. Many had dived for their cameras, but the spectacle was over too soon to get any good shots. He turned his attention down to the crying baby Vulpix in his arms. Haunter was floating close, but his usual comical antics didn't seem to be working. Machoke was standing behind Simeon's right shoulder. He had his arms at his sides, feeling completely helpless. It was not a feeling he was used to and one he was not sure he liked. Simeon rocked Vulpix gently, speaking softly as a mother would to a crying child. After a few minutes, Vulpix stopped crying. She sniffled a little and looked up at Simeon through her bright eyes. Simeon smiled and handed her to Haunter, who floated off to the edge of the crowd to play with Vulpix. Simeon looked behind at Machoke who smiled weakly and they both turned to watch the contest.
