Today's Episode: Surf's Up For Lt. Surge!
Written and Directed by Chet "Tech" Weaver
A young author sat as his computer. The notepad that had information
on it vital to the story he was writing had disappeared from the face
of the Earth, forcing him to collect the information again. Despite
the effort he put into getting up to point where he could write the
story, one major obstacle stood in his way.
Writer's block.
He knew exactly what he wanted to happen, but how to start the story
escaped him. As he pondered on this, the phone rang. He answered it.
"Hello?" he said.
"What's takin' so long?" said the voice on the other end.
"What?"
"The story, Tech. It's Wednesday, and you still haven't started it
yet!"
"Smasher?"
"You were expecting Tony Hawk, maybe?"
"How are you able to call me on the phone?"
"Nevermind that now. Just get that story written, got it?"
"But I don't know how to start it."
"Then skip the beginning. Work on it later. I'm dieing of boredom
here!"
"You're just upset because I made you fall in love with a lesbian,
right?"
"Just... just get to work already, okay?"
Smasher hung up the phone. He walked over to the Pokemon Center's
front desk and retrieved his Pokebelt. Cliff the Clefairy climbed onto
his shoulder. Shuriken the Staryu skated over to him.
"Maybe I should call out my Pokemon," Smasher said. He pulled three
balls off his belt and opened them. "Ice, Rush, Golbat, go!"
With a flash of light, his Cubone, Growlithe and newly-evolved Golbat
appeared.
"Hey, Jeffe!" Rush the Growlithe greeted. "Que pasa?"
"Amber should be over any moment now with some TMs," Smasher
informed. "We'll be going over to the local Gym to take the leader,
Lt. Surge. Amber tells me he trains electric Pokemon and has a taste
for rare creatures."
"A connoisseur, eh?" said Rush. "Well, wait'll he get's a load of
me..."
Moments later, Amber walked into the Pokemon Center. She was dressed
differently from yesterday. She was wearing dark green hot pants and a
tank top with a camouflage design. Her blonde hair was already
beginning to return to its natural brown color.
"Did you bring them?" Smasher asked as Amber came over to them.
"Yep," said Amber. She knelt down, opened her back pack and began
pulling out TMs. Smasher called over Ice, Rush, Shuriken and Golbat.
"Okay, boys, class is in session," Smasher said. He activated each one
in turn, sending small nanotech clouds into their faces. When the
clouds disapated all four had learned new moves. Smasher pulled out
his Pokedex to double check.
"Staryu," said the Pokedex. "Moves: Tackle, Thunderwave, Water Gun,
Double Team.
"Cubone. Moves: Bone Club, Ice Beam, Earthquake, Double Team.
"Growlithe. Moves: Fire Blast, Dig, Double Team, Body Slam.
"Golbat. Moves: Mega Drain, Confuse Ray, Double Team, Razor Wind."
"Why Razor Wind?" Amber asked.
"Why not Razor Wind?" Smasher answered. "Razor Wind's cool!"
"Well, it's your Pokemon..."
"(Hey, Shuriken, what's Double Team do?)" Golbat asked in Golbatian.
"(It makes you more agile and harder to hit,)" Shuriken answered in
Staryu-speak.
"(Hmph, that's a wussy move,)" Golbat commented. He flew over to
Smasher's back pack.
"(What're you doing?)" Shuriken asked.
"(It should be in here somewhere,)" said Golbat as he
searched. "(Let's see... It should be in here some where...
Bubblebeam? No... Mysterious TM X? No... Ah, ha! Here we go. Bide!
Now, how does this work? Ah, to heck with it.)"
Golbat ate the TM.
"(There. Now I know Bide!)" Golbat announced proudly.
"(This can't be good,)" Shuriken said.
Smasher was too busy talking with Amber to notice what had happened.
"You're sure you're ready to take on Surge?" Amber asked.
"Of course I'm sure," Smasher said. "I could use a couple more
Pokemon, but I think I'll catch some myself later. Besides, you
yourself said I could handle this gym."
"Oh, yeah. I forgot. You should take on the lesser gym trainers,
though. Get some cash off 'em."
"Good idea. Vermillion Gym, here we come!"
[Spinning graphic]
"Hang in there, Magnemite! Sonic Boom!"
"We got 'em now! Ice Beam!"
The Magnemite rocketed past Ice the Cubone. The resulting boom knocked
Ice off his feet. He stood back up, leveled his Bone Club and and
fired a beam from it. The Magnemite was frozen in a block of ice and
hit the ground, unable to carry the weight.
"Looks like I win," Smasher said.
"I guess you did," the Magnemite's trainer said. He went over to
Smasher and handed him his money. "I should stop making such large
bets. Either that, or start using Pokemon other than electric types."
"I oughtta get myself an electric type," Smasher said as the other
trainer walked off. "One I can use, at least. I have siamese twin
Pikachus, but I can't use them in an official battle. Ah well. Who's
next?"
"I don't think anyone else is willing to fight you," Amber pointed out.
"Actually, I think there's one trainer left!" announced
Smasher. "Lieutenant Surge!"
"Me thinks my ears are boining," Surge said, in an impressive entrance
pose. He slapped the side of his head. "Geez! They are! Stupid fire
Pokemon!"
Surge was suddenly hit with a blast of water. He turned to see a
skateboarding Staryu with a dripping arm, a skater with a Marowak-skull
helmet and local trainer Amber. There was also a Cubone and a
Clefairy, but Surge didn't think they were important.
"'Ey, kid," Surge called. "That your Staryu?"
"Uh, yeah," Smasher answered.
"And 'e doused my head?"
"Uh, huh."
"Good woik! Youse desoive the Thundah Badge!"
Smasher's eyes lit up.
"Really!?" exclaimed Smasher.
"'Ell no. Who do ya think I am, Santa Claus? Youse still gotta fight
me for it!"
Smasher collasped in dismay. He then hopped back into an aggressive
pose.
"Waitaminute!" Smasher said. "What am I worried about? I've got a
ground-type! You can't possibly beat me!"
"Think not?" Surge said. "Let's just see abouts that! One-on-one
duel, right now!" He snatched a Pokeball off his belt and tossed it
into the arena. "Pikat-shoo, I choose youse!"
"You're on, Ice!" Smasher called.
Ice dashed onto the court as Pikat-shoo, a Pikachu, materialized.
"Ice! Earthquake!"
"Pikat-shoo, Surf!"
The doors of the Vermillion Gym burst open as tons of water rushed past
them, washing Amber, Smasher, and his Pokemon outside.
"Youse babies can come back tomorrow to tries again," Surge taunted
from the doorway. "If ya thinks you can take it!"
Laughing, Surge went back inside and closed the door behind him.
Smasher found himself laying on his back as the water drained out of
the street. He spat out some water and his skateboard landed on his
face.
"What the flapping blue funt was that!?" Smasher exclaimed, getting
up. "Pikachus can learn that?"
"Not all of them," Amber said, slumped over a bench. "Surfing Pikachus
are a rare breed- just the way Surge likes them. We should head back
to the PokeCenter to heal and regroup."
[Spinning Graphic]
"So half my team is sensitive to water attacks," Smasher reviewed in
the Pokemon Center. "And the other half is sensitive to electrics.
How exactly can I possibly win here?"
"If you keep training you're Pokemon, it eventually won't matter what
types they are," Amber informed. "If they're strong enough, they could
beat anything."
"That could take a while," Smasher said. "And I don't want to stick
around here too long."
"You don't?" Amber was a little disappointed. She was hoping her new
friend wouldn't leave so soon.
"Nope. There's a big world out there, Amber, just waiting to be
explored. I want to seek out new worlds and civilizations.... To
boldly go where no man has gone before! You could come with me if you
wanna."
"Nah. I'm all traveled out for now. I think I'll stick around here
until the next League Games."
"Suit yourself. Now, how to beat Surge?"
"You could ask him not to use the Surfin' Pikachu," Rush suggested.
"Nah, then he'd think I was a little wussy chicken baby," Smasher
declined.
"What about this Pikatwo you've been telling me about?" Amber asked.
"I can't use him legally," Smasher said.
"What about Phoebe?" Rush tried.
"Maybe, if her pimp hadn't taken her back and charged me a large sum of
money carrying her around on my belt."
"What if I traded you my Bellsprout for your Pikatwo?" Amber
offered. "I've trained it pretty well."
"That might work," Smasher agreed. He pulled out his Pokedex and
summoned Pikatwo's Poke Ball. He held the ball in his hand and started
laughing.
"What is it?" Amber asked.
"I can't beleive I didn't think of this before," Smasher said.
"What?" Rush asked.
"I'll explain on the way," Smasher said, putting the ball onto his
belt. "Quick, Shuriken! To the City Gym!"
[Spinning graphic]
"Dude, what is with those spinning graphics?" Rush asked as he, Amber,
Smasher, Shuriken and Cliff entered Lt. Surge's office.
"I thought I told youse ta come back tomorrow," Surge said upon their
entrance.
"You did," Amber said.
"Okay, just checking," Surge accepted. He turned back to the gun he
was cleaning.
Smasher cleared his throat.
"I think I may have something you might want," Smasher said.
"Wussat?" Surge replied.
"Ever hear of a..." Smasher paused for dramatic effect. He leaned in
close to Surge, as if sharing a secret. "... Pikatwo?"
Surge laughed.
"Wussat?" he remarked. "The evolution of Raichu or somethin'?" Surge
laughed some more.
"Not quite," Smasher continued. "Sometimes, during the development of
a Pokemon inside an egg, the genetic material within the egg splits
into two separate yet identical Pokemon, or twins. On rare occasions,"
Smasher emphasized rare, "they don't split all the way, resulting in
what is commonly known as 'Siamese twins,' twins joined at some part of
the body."
"And when theys siamese twin Pikachus," Surge surmised, "you call 'em a
Pikatwo. Clevah. And your sayin' that you have one or two of these
things?"
"You bet your battalion, lieutenent. And they're rare. One of a kind,
even! Or is it two of a kind?"
"Talk is cheap, baby. Show me dis Pikatwo of yours, then we can talk."
Smasher shrugged and opened Pikatwo's PokeBall. The twin Pikachus
joined at the hip appeared on Surge's desk. The one on the right was
asleep, but the other one looked up at Lt. Surge with interest. Surge
was in awe.
"Wow," Surge said. "Is dis thing real?"
Surge reached over to touch the siamese twin's singular hindquarters.
The tail smacked Surge's hand, waking up the one on the right. It
yawned, got up, and stretched.
Surge's face betrayed his amazement. He never saw such a creature
before.
"Whattaya want for it?" Surge asked urgently.
"Well," said Smasher. "This is a pretty special Pokemon. But, I think
I may be willing to part with them for the Surfing Pikachu and a
Thunderbadge."
"Surfin' Pikachu!? The Thundahbadge, maybe, but I dunno about the
Surfin' Pikachu..."
"I've read about the Surfing Pikachu," Amber said. "It seems to me
that just about any Pikachu can learn Surf, given proper training. But
you can't even breed a Pikatwo."
"And you probably give out Thunderbadges everyday," Smasher
added. "They're just little pins, probably not even worth the cost of
a normal Pikachu. You'd be getting two Pokemon for the price of one."
Surge thought for a moment.
"All right, you gotta deal," Surge said. He reached into his desk and
pulled out a Poke Ball and a Thunderbadge.
"I do?" exclaimed Smasher. He really didn't expect this to work.
"Yep," confirmed Surge. "A Thundahbadge and a Surfin' Pikachu for the
one-or-two of a kind Pikatwo."
"Cool!" Smasher said. He returned Pikatwo to their ball and handed it
to Surge. "You take good care of Pikatwo, okay?"
"As long as youse take good care of Pikat-shoo," Surge said, handing
over the Thunderbadge and the Poke Ball.

As the sun set over Vermillion City, Amber and Smasher, accompanied by
Cliff and Shuriken, walked back to the Pokemon Center.
"So, you gonna miss Pikatwo?" Amber asked.
"Yeah," answered Smasher. "We had some good times together."
Smasher remembered the time he caught Pikatwo in Viridian Forest and
the shock of discovering Pikatwo was siamese twins. Then he recalled
Pikatwo knocking out Misty's Starmie in a special two-on-two
simultaneous match, which he lost. Then there was the time he traded
them to Lt. Surge.
"Actually, I barely let them out of their ball," Smasher realized. "I
kinda just put them away when I realized I couldn't legally use them.
Maybe I should've trained them more or at least played with them. I
wonder what would've happened if I won that match..."
"I have to go now," Amber said. "My house is down this way."
"Oh," Smasher said. "You're sure you don't want to come with me on my
journey?"
"I already have all eight badges, and I'm tired of moving from place to
place."
"Oh," Smasher looked a bit down-trodden.
"But I hear the Indigo League is going to expand its territory," Amber
added. "I thought I'd check it out around September. Maybe I'll see
you there!"
"So, we'll meet again?"
"Yes. We'll meet again in September."
"Excellent!"
"Oh... and there's something I want to give you."
"Huh?"
Amber reached into her pocket and handed Smasher a piece of paper.
Then she said good-bye and headed off down the street. Smasher watched
her run off into the sunset then looked at the piece of paper in his
hand. It was Amber's phone number!
"Yes!" Smasher exclaimed. He threw his skateboard in the air, jumped
up, clicked his heels and got hit in the head by his skateboard.
"I've got to stop doing that."
