Usually, when Taron enters a gym the first thing he notices is
the sounds and the smells. When he entered the Cerulean City gym the
first he noticed was the strong smell of chlorine, followed closely by
the sound of water churning in a pool. As he entered the gym Taron had
a vague idea of how he would earn this badge, but it was only a vague
idea. Not exactly a strategy.
"So, you're my next challenge huh?" Misty said as she resumed
her place on the other side of the gym. Procyon went off to sit in the
bleachers on the left side of the battlefield Next to Suik. Unbeknownst
to Taron Misty had shot a glare to Procyon, who had beaten him earlier.
(This glare was good natured though, as it was also accompanied by a
small barely detectable smirk) Procyon grinned as he admired his hard
won Cascade Badge, he didn't see Misty glare at him.
"Good luck Taron!" procyon called from the side lines. Then he
muttered to himself, "you're gonna need it."
Taron gave him the "Thumbs up." "Thanks Procyon!" He called then
muttered "I'm gonna need it."
Taron waited for Misty, (As the challenged) to declare the
terms of the battle. She smirked nonchalantly. "We'll have a four on
four match." Taron jerked and sweatdropped nervously. There was nothing
he could do though, short of walking away. Taron's pride wouldn't let
him do that though. He shot an apologetic look at Tumbleweed, who stood
next to him. Tumbleweed shook off his own sweatdrop then smiled
confidently at Taron. Taron couldn't see the smile, but seemed to sense
his pokemon's reaction. He nodded at Misty.
"Alright, then." He said simply. Misty took a pokeball out of a
backpack at pool side. A flung it into the water. There was a flash of
light, then a Starmie surfaced. "Star"
Taron reached into his pocket. "Go Rampage!" He threw the
pokeball into the ring and prayed it would land on one of the little
floaty docks.
SPLASH!
A few seconds later a very wet Tauros surfaced. "Tauuuur"
Taron sweatdropped. "Oh that's REALLY gonna make him want to
listen to me."
Rampage pulled himself onto the floaty dock.
"What are you crazy? A Tauros? it's way to big to be any good
here." Misty called from across the pool. Taron frowned at her.
"Rampage, uh use..uh use a Stomp attack." Taron called not quite knowing
exactly how it would work out.
SPLASH!
"D'oh! Rampage return!" Taron put the pokeball back in his
pocket and drew out another one. "Go Talon!"
"Speeear" The bird cried as it was released from it's pokeball.
It hovered, flapping to stay aloft, waiting for instructions.
"Talon, use a Peck attack!" Talon dive bombed the starfish
pokemon and pecked it right in the center of it's star. It flew back a
bit but then got up ready for more.
"Okay Starmie, use a bubblebeam." Misty called out. A stream of
brightly colored bubbles shot out of the jewel and barraged Talon. Talon
shook it off and waited for his next instruction.
"Talon, quick use a Fury Attack!" Talon divebombed the bejeweled
pokemon, but so much faster that he was able to do it four times before
Misty ordered her Starmie to use Hydro Pump. A high powered stream of
water shot out and hit Talon sending him flying into the wall. He was
unconcious before he slid to the ground.
"Oh no, Talon return!" His fainted bird dissappeared in a flash
of red light. Taron knelt down and looked at Tumbleweed, his first
pokemon, possibly his last hope.
"Tumbleweed, buddy I know you're scared of water. And I'm really
sorry it had to come to this but...." He let it hang. Tumbleweed nodded
and leaped into the ring.
"A Sandshrew? This is too easy. Too bad you're not AJ." Taron
had no idea who she was talking about but he let it slide.
"Okay Tumbleweed use a Scratch attack." Tumbleweed rushed up to
the waiting Starmie and scratched it. It barely knicked it's hard shell.
"Starmie, use a Water Gun!" A thin stream of water shot out of
Starmie's top appeandage. Tumbleweed was engulfed in the stream.
"Oh no! Tumbleweed return!" Taron gritted his teeth. In the back
of his mind he knew it was over. But he still had one pokemon left and
he refused to give up.
"Go Pierre!" He summoned his Metapod out of it's pokeball. It
stood on the platform waiting.
"Starmie use a tackle attack."
"Pierre, quick Harden!"
The two pokemon collided Taron heard a cracking noise and
Procyon and Suik watched as the fragments of Starmie's jewel scattered.
The Starmie staggered a bit, the fell over, fainted.
"Pierre defeated..."
"...My Starmie?"
The metapod stood up proudly then, it seemed to have a look of confusion
on it's somewhat non-existant face. There was a sound of energy and a
bright glow enveloped it. After it faded a newly created butterfree
floated above the pool. "Fweee!"
Taron grinned "Yeah! it evolved."
Misty seemed unimmpressed. "Okay Horsea it's your turn!" A few minutes
later her Staryu stood waiting for a command. "Horsea Water Gun."
"Pierre dodge it!"
The attack was easily dodged
"Confusion attack!" A bright beam of multi-colored light shot
out of Pierre's head and hit the Horsea. It fell over, fainted.
The tables had turned, Taron stood a good chance of winning.
Especially with the surprise he had in store if things started going bad
again.
Misty growled, obviously getting frustrated at having the battle
turned on her.
"Go Goldeen!" "goldeen goldeen."
"Use String Shot." The goldfish pokemon was soon enveloped in
the sticky string it could hardly move.
"Okay, Pierre, quick use a Tackle." "Peck attack now goldeen."
The two pokemon launched at eachother, resulting in a mid-air collison.
They collided, time seemed to freeze for a moment.... Then the Goldeen
fell to the pool and resurfaced belly up. Taron heard Misty growl again.
"Return! Go Staryu!"
Taron smirked knowingly.
It was time.
He took out his pokedex and a small computer diskette. He put the
diskette into a designated slot on the pokedex. He pushed a green
button and a bright beam shot out of it and struck his Butterfree. It
began to glow for a moment then faded. Pierre flew higher seemingly
rejuvinated.
On Taron's pokedex the words "String-shot forgotten" Flashed.
Taron smirked.
"Pierre, use a Tackle Attack."
"What?! Wait, what was that beam?"
Pierre flapped his wings and struck the second Starfish in the jewel. It
fell flat on it's back.
"Water Gun." A stream of water was fired at Pierre, it knocked
him back but he shook it off and waited.
"Pierre, Sol, luz. Si? Okay Tackle Attack." Once again the
butterfly tackled the starfish. Taron hopped that Misty couldn't speak
Spanish. (Well, actually neither could Taron. Not really he just knew a
few words and phrases.)
"Okay, it's time." Pierre nodded his head and flapped his wings
rapidly.
"FWEEEEEE!!!!" A bright beam of white light shot out of Pierre
and struck Staryu before it could even think about moving. It wobbled
on it's legs for a moment, then toppled over. Defeated.
Taron jumped up into the air. "I did it, I don't beleive it I
did it." Misty stood there in shock.
"How did you..." She stammered. Taron grinned at her.
"Solar Beam!" He called across the pool. "I used a TM to teach
Pierre Solarbeam."
Misty fumed. "Wait, you cheated I thought you had to charge up
for that!!"
Taron's grin widend. "I did. Sol, luz.... Sun light." Taron winked a
blind eye. "I told him to charge up. I just didn't let YOU know that."
What Taron didn't tell her was that it was just dumb luck Pierre
understood him. Misty leaped from one platform to the next until she
reached Taron. She gve him the Cascade Badge. "Here, you earned this."
Taron grinned and pinned it to his jacket.
TBC....
