While sneaking around, he overhears Team Rocket's plans to overthrow Giovanni and take over his gym. Not knowing that Giovanni was the head of Team Rocket, Chet warns the crime boss/gym leader. Giovanni is grateful enough that he lets Chet try for a chance at the Earthbadge. Though they fought valiantly, Chet's Pokemon's inexperience led to their defeat. Now he must wait until he gets the other seven badges before challenging Giovanni. Poke-X-mon Episode three Vicious Ferocity in Viridian Forest As Chet Weaver strode past the Viridian Gym, he couldn't help but recall his own stupidity. He had thought that Giovanni was being elitist when he had his gaurds only allow in those who have won seven badges. Being a mutant from Vertigo Island, he had felt discrimination before. He thought this was another example of people being excluded for something as trivial as money, race or creed. Now he realized it was more like those signs in amusement parks that read "You must be this tall to get on this ride." It's not there for the sake of exclusion, but for the sake of protection. Although the Pokemon he fought yesterday were no where near the level of an seven- badge trainer, it now seemed only logical that only one with the experience of challenging seven gyms could be a match for Giovanni's own team. If Giovanni had fought Chet himself, Doom, Flak and Chance could be crippled or dead by now. Chet moved on. He left town and headed for the Viridian Forest. He could've headed south, to Cinnibar Island, but he didn't have the money for a ride across the bay. His best bet was to head north to Pewter City and find gyms he could afford to travel to. Chet realised he may need more Pokemon to help him on his journey. He learned that Viridian Forest was the home to a few bug species and Pikachus. Chet was no fan of bug-types, although he had to admit that Caterpies were kinda cute, but an electric-type should be a good addition to his team. Chet saw a coin fly up in front of his face. He looked down and saw that his Meowth, Chance, was flipping coins again. It wasn't a particulary bad habit, except that Chance's signature move, Coin Flip, often resulted in a random attack move. Chet reflected on his mission once more as he entered Viridian Forest.
