Solano “You smell that Alucard?” Trent asked his Golbat as he walked towards Mount Moon. “<I’m afraid I don’t, master.>” “It’s the smell of fate.” Trent continued walking below the night sky, careful not to make too much noise. “<Well, if you insist, master.>” Alucard hovered a short distance behind. Suddenly, a blinding light came upon them. Trent shielded his face with his arms while Alucard shrieked in pain. Most Golbat felt an excruciating pain in their eyes when exposed to bright lights after having been in darkness for a while. “Trent...” said a sweet, soft, yet familiar voice. Trent’s eyes were beginning to get used to the light. He slowly lowered his arm. “Who’s there?!” he yelled. Alucard wrapped his wings around him and sat motionless on the floor. “It’s only me, Trent.” “Katherine?” Trent’s ability to focus returned, and he found himself before the spirit of Katherine. “Trent, please, don’t kill Dreadite. Revenge is not the solution.” Trent’s vision was finally clear. He stood back up and looked at her without squinting. “You’re just jealous, Katherine.” “Jealous of what? Your evil personality?” Trent cracked a devious smile and edged closer to her. “Not only did I get a second chance to live, by I’m able to get back at my killer. This doesn’t concern you, Katherine, so leave me alone.” “Trent, this does concern me. I’m worried about you. I don’t want you to wind up back in hell.” “Bah, hell.” Trent said. He crossed his arms and looked away. “It doesn’t matter if I go back there. Akumachu’s quite fond of me.” Alucard finally opened his wings. By now, the bright light had disappeared. “Akumachu can’t control you now, but if you go back he won’t be merciful.” Trent looked back at her and sneered. “Katherine, it’s my life and I will do whatever I want!” “Suit yourself, Trent. But I have to warn you- Akumachu is planning to invade this plane.” “Let him then. Why should I worry?” Katherine walked closer to Trent. “Trent, he’s using you. Because you’ve been to hell, you have a link to it. If you kill a sinner, he will use that soul’s link as well as your own to hell and step into this realm.” “So? Dreadite’s a sinner. I’ll kill him, and Akumachu gets up here. I don’t see a problem.” “He’ll claim as many victims as possible. Once he’s done purging this realm, he’ll have you sent back to hell with him.” Trent turned his back to Katherine. “And what if he does? I’ve rendered several services to him. He’ll make sure I’m treated well.” “That’s where you’re wrong, Trent.” Katherine sat down on a large rock. “I’m tired. What I wouldn’t do for a cup of coffee, a nice hot bath, and a decent novel.” “Katherine, don’t change the subject.” Trent sat down next to her. Alucard was utterly confused and decided to just stay where he was. “I bet you could go for something like that. Don’t tell me you’re not tired.” “Well, to be honest...” Trent’s eyes shifted from their usual angered look to a more casual appearance, one neither Katherine nor Alucard had seen in a very, very long time. “Yeah, a cup of coffee, a hot bath and a good book do sound nice.” Realizing that he was forgetting his mission, he quickly returned to his evil look. “But I can have all of that later. Katherine, I have work to do.” Trent got up from the rock and started walking off. “Come on, Alucard.” “<Forgive me, Katherine.>” Alucard said to the spectre. “<I don’t wish to hurt anybody, but he is my master, and I must obey.>” “Trent, come back here.” Katherine stood up from the rock. Trent turned around and sneered once again. He quickly walked up to Katherine, a look of frustration and impatience in his eyes. “What do you want now?! Do you want someone to hold you?! Someone to love you?! Well that’s too bad, Katherine! I’ve changed. I have better things to do than listen to your prophecies.” “Trent, I... I...” Katherine turned to the side and began to cry. “That’s odd. I thought ghosts weren’t capable of emotion.” “Trent... you heartless beast!” Alucard hovered next to Trent. “<Master, you musn’t be too harsh on her. She is very sensitive if you recall.>” “Back off, Alucard.” Trent pushed him out of the way. Alucard landed on the branch of a dead tree. “Oh, I’m terribly sorry, Katherine. Did I hurt your feelings?” “Trent, you meant a lot to me... I don’t want to see you go this way. You’ve been to hell and back once, and I want you to stay here.” “I’m going to kill Dreadite, and there’s not a damn thing you can do about it!” “Suit yourself, Trent. I hope you’re happy with the path you’ve chosen. Goodbye.” Katherine silently disappeared. Alucard and Trent exchanged looks. “<Master, you didn’t have to be so hard on her...>” “Shut up, Alucard.” “<Very well, master.>” Trent continued walked down the dark path. His thoughts swirled in his head. Was what Katherine said true? No, it couldn’t be. Akumachu held Trent in high esteem. Or did he? Trent was having second thoughts about his plan. “Retwin,” Akumachu called. “What just happened up there?” “Nothing. Nothing happened.” Jose Luis Solano ------------------------------- Offical Member of the AFSH Stupid Brigade ------------------------------- Beware the Dark Hamster of the Sith
