From: Dan and his army of Kirbys (kirb9701@aol.computer) Subject: [PW!] A New Journey Begins Newsgroups: alt.games.nintendo.pokemon Date: 2001-02-04 16:31:08 PST Dan had retrieved his own pokemon from the TR shipments. All others recovered were being kept at Prof. Elm's lab until the original owners were found. At this time, Dan had wandered from New Bark Town onto a road. Only moonlight lit the way on this cold night. "I knew I should've gotten a map while I was in that town," Dan said. "Now I have no idea where I am..." A small, one-legged bird Pokemon landed a few feet in front of Dan, away from the path. "Hm? What's that thing?" Dan asked, taking out his underused Pokedex and pointing it at the Pokemon. "No Pokemon entry found," the somewhat obsolete encyclopedia responded. "What?" Dan said. "Stupid thing....when's the last time I had it upgraded?" He pushed a few buttons to check the upgrade date. "Ok, this thing is long overdue for some updating," Dan said, noting the date from 2 years ago. "But I'm nowhere near a phone...I need to connect the Pokedex with a phone to get the upgrade link up." Dan suddenly remembered something. In New Bark, he had recieved a new device, called a PokeGear. Elm had given it to him after hearing he was a friend of Oak's. "That PokeGear thing has a portable phone," Dan said. "Maybe that'll work." He pulled the device from his pack and put it on his wrist. "Need the connection cable..." He took a cable from the Pokegear box and plugged it into the Pokedex, connecting it with the Pokegear. "Now for the link," he said, and dialed a number into the Pokegear. After a few beeps, an automated voice came from the phone. "Pokedex Updating Service. Would you like to fully update the infomation of your Pokedex? Press 1 for yes and 2 for no." Dan pressed the 1 key. "Just a moment. Your Pokemon database is now being updated. We would like to tell you that the current Pokedex update includes entries for 100 pokemon, two previously unknown Pokemon types, and many new techniques." "100?!" Dan said. "I've sure been out of it..." "Pokedex updating complete. Thank you for using the Pokedex Upgrade Service." The service then hung up. Dan disconnected the cable and stuffed it into his pack. "So...NOW let's see what that Pokemon is," Dan said, pointing his Pokedex again. "Hoothoot," the Pokedex responded. "An owl pokemon. Active only at night." Dan closed the Pokedex and put it in his pocket. "Something tells me I might be using that thing a lot more lately..." Suddenly, a strange feeling came over him, and he collapsed. "What in the...?" "Did you forget about me? Hahaha..." a voice inside his head echoed. "Oh, great," Dan struggled to say. "Not...again...." TBC... -Dan
