Today, our heroines (Yuki, Yolei, and Lynkeru) find themselves inside the
dark and mysterious Ilex forest. Their quest: to locate the shiny Unown
that Yolei detected with her radar. But they're not the only ones on the
look-out for shinies in the forest...
"For a genius, I sure have a lousy sense of direction," Ken Giovanni
grumbled to himself as he shoved some branches out of his way. "Stupid
shortcut. This better lead me back to the main path."
Ken suddenly heard some voices nearby. Peering around a tree, he found not
only the main path but three girls as well. They were a bit of a ways off
and weren't likely to notice him anytime soon.
'What are they doing here?' Ken thought, hiding himself behind the tree.
"Looks like a dead-end," Yolei said.
"Nah," Yuki dismissed. "You just gotta cut through these bushes here.
There's a path on the other side."
"Allow me," Lynkeru said, drawing her swords. She began to swiftly, if
ineffectively, cut through the bushes.
Indi, the fairy hovering over Lynkeru's shoulder, made a few twinkling
sounds.
"Hey, I know what I'd doing, okay?" Lynkeru insisted.
"Anyway, where's that shiny on your radar now, Yolei?" Yuki asked.
Yolei pressed a couple keys on her PokeGear, activating its Unown Radar
function. After studying it for a moment, she said, "It shouldn't be too
far now. In fact, once we're clear of these bushes it should be pretty
close."
'An Unown Radar, eh?' Ken thought to himself with a smirk. 'That'd sure
come in handy...'
"Okay, we're through," Lynkeru reported, having cleared the bushes in their
path.
As she walked through where the bushes once where, Yolei noted, "Remind me
never to ask you to trim my hedges."
"Very funny," Lynkeru remarked, walking down the path with the others. "So
we're near the next shiny, right? We should probably... OOF!"
Lynkeru toppled over a she tripped over something laying in her path.
Getting up, she discovered it was some sort of huge ladybug.
"What is it?" she asked.
"Looks like it might be a Ledyba," Yolei said. She stooped down for a
closer look. "No, wait. It's a Ledian!"
"But Ledians aren't wild around here," Yuki said.
"I know," Yolei replied. "It must've been left here by its trainer or
something."
"Is it dead?" Lynkeru asked.
As if to answer her question, the Ledian attempted to pull itself off the
ground. It struggled into a kneeling position before collasping onto its
back. Yolei scanned it with her PokeGear.
"It's been poisoned really bad," she reported. "We'll have to get it back
to the PokeCenter pronto!"
"Right," Lynkeru agreed. She picked up the Ledian and lifted it onto her
head. "Let's go."
They quickly started off in the direction of Goldenrod. Suddenly, a cloud
of smoke exploded into existance in front of them. A human figure floated
out of it standing atop a Wheezing.
"You're not going anywhere, little missies!" the Masked Rocket said. "No
one passes until you hand over your PokeGears!"
"We don't have time for this!" Yuki insisted. "This Ledian needs to get to
the Pokemon Center!"
"All the more reason you should just hand them over, then," the Rocket
replied, extending his hand.
"No!" Yolei refused.
"Then prepare to fight! Wheezing, Smog attack!"
"Wheezing," the Wheezing, erm, wheezed. Its two mouths belched out a
noxious gas that caused everyone to cough hard.
Lynkeru put down the Ledian and drew her swords.
"What do you think you're doing?" Yolei coughed out.
"I'm attacking him, what else?" Lynkeru replied as she charged at the gas
beast.
"Wait!" Yolei called out.
"Acid!" the Masked Rocket commanded. The Wheezing immediately vomited up a
stream of vile liquid. Lynkeru dodged and hissed in pain as a drop hit her
skin.
"Mera, go!" Yolei called out, releasing her abnormally-larged Quilava.
"Quick Attack!"
Mera slammed into Wheezing at full-force, almost knocking over the Masked
Rocket.
"Go, Luna," Yuki said, sending in her Umbreon. "Shadow Ball!"
Luna shot a ball of dark energy from mouth that the Wheezing and Rocket
dodged. Lynkeru scrambled over to her traveling companions.
"I think I'll let you two handle this for the moment," she said.
"Let's send out a little Acid for everyone, Wheezing," the Masked Rocket
commanded. The Wheezing spat out some more acid. Luna was able to evade
but Mera got hit and cried out in pain. A third volley flew straight for
the girls. They barely dodged that loogie and Lynkeru had to pull the
Ledian out of harm's way.
Putting down the Ledian again and pulling out Unown Y, Lynkeru said, "Let's
see how well you do without your putrid, cloud-spewing, gas... thing!" The
Unown's trunk extended, latched onto the Wheezing somehow, and and pulled it
towards, causing the Masked Rocket to fall off. As the Wheezing came to
her, Lynkeru gave it a hard it. It belched out more smog as rammed back
into its trainer.
"Mera, Ember!" Yolei called out. Mera's flames ignited Wheezing's smog,
causing it to explode and send both the gas bag and Rocket flying into the
air.
"Going... going..." Yolei said as she watched them fly.
*DING!*
"Gone!"
"Alright, now let's get out of here!" Yuki said. Lynkeru picked up the
Ledian and they took off for Goldenrod.
Later, at the Pokemon Center, Yolei hung up the video phone and walked over
to where Lynkeru and Yuki were waiting.
"I called the police," she said. "I figured that the Ledian's trainer might
be in bad shape himself, so I got them to send out a search party for him.
"Nice thinking," Yuki said. "But what if they don't find her trainer, or if
he's dead?"
"I don't know. I guess we'll have to keep her or something."
Nurse Joy called Yolei over to the counter. Once there, she handed over
Mera's PokeBall and said, "We were able to fix the problem, but I'm afraid
he'll stay that size until he evolves."
"That's okay," Yolei said as she put the ball away. "What about the Ledian
I brought in?"
"What?" Nurse Joy asked. She glanced over at an empty space next to her on
the counter. "That's strange. She was right here when I..."
"Hey! Get off me!"
Joy and Yolei looked over to where Lynkeru and Yuki were. The Ledian had
knocked tackled Lynkeru and was nuzzling her cheek.
"Looks like she likes you, Lyn," Yolei giggled.
"Or she thinks you're a male Scyther," remarked Yuki.
"Whatever," Lynkeru said, getting up and prying Ledian off her. "I'm not
too crazy about bugs, so just back off, okay?"
The Ledian hovered in the air for a moment as Lynkeru began to walk away.
Then the insect latched onto the back of Lynkeru's head, causing her to lose
her balance and fall over.
"Looks like you're stuck with her," laughed Yolei. Everyone else began
laughing, too.
"Oy," Lynkeru said, not laughing.
