They didn't see Amber or her friends anywhere. They either left or were still in the back room. Yolei stroked Mera's fur as she led him over to the counter and said to Lynkeru, "You know, I don't think Quilavas are supposed to be this large." "How so?" Lynkeru asked. "Well, according to my Pokedex, they're less than a meter long," Yolei replied. "But Mera here is as big as a Ponyta!" "Well, you know this stuff better than I do," Lynkeru said. "Hello, welcome to our..." Nurse Joy's normal rhetoric was halted when she saw Mera. "Wow. He's big. What have you been feeding this thing?" "Just the usual PokeChow," Yolei answered as Mera attempted to climb up onto the counter. His back feet kept slipping out from beneath him, but he kept trying until he was standing on it lengthwise. "Does he eat a lot of it?" Nurse Joy asked. She stroked Mera's head inspected the firey Pokemon closely. "I guess," Yolei said. "Is something wrong?" "You should really pay more attention to your Pokemon's behavior, including their eating habits," Nurse Joy explained. "They may indicate health problems or, in your Quilava's case, glandular problems." "Glandular problems? Can they be fixed?" In response to Nurse Joy's petting, Mera put out the flame on his head and playfully rammed his head into her chest, knocking her over. She picked herself up and dusted herself off. "We can't reverse the effects now," Nurse Joy said, "but the problem can be treated so he won't be much larger than this as a Typhlosion. We're not equipped to deal with problem here, but I believe the Center in Goldenrod is. Either way, he'll be fine though. You'll just have to feed him a lot more." "Okay, thanks," Yolei said. "He just had a tough battle against Bugsy, so be sure to heal him." "Of course," Joy said. "What about your other Pokemon?" "It was a one-on-one match, so they're all okay. I should probably feed them now, though." "You be sure to do that." Nurse Joy patted Mera on the shoulder to signal that he should follow her. Mera, however, thought that she was trying to pick him up so he tried to climb into her arms. The hapless Joy soon found herself on the floor underneath a very large fire Pokemon. "Mera! Get off her!" Yolei scolded. To Nurse Joy she said, "Sorry about that." "Don't worry about it," Joy said, getting back up and leading Mera to the back room. "It happens more often than you think." Yolei walked over to a nearby bench and took off her back pack. She got out a few bags of PokeChow and began releasing her Pokemon. "I wonder where Mamoru is," Lynkeru said as she wandered off.
