Subject: [PW!] [WC] Day One, Round One, Match Two: Violet vs. Becky Date: Tue, 03 Dec 2002 00:59:19 GMT From: Worry <Not@acceping.today> Organization: RoadRunner - Triad Newsgroups: alt.games.nintendo.pokemon Becky was nervous. Standing on the platform, she prepared to participate in her first tournament match ever. For much of the past two years, she had traveled the land of Johto with Travis, training her pokemon and getting into the occasional bit of mischief. Now she found herself standing before a cheering crowd, preparing to put all of her training into effect. It was a bit overwhelming! Luck of the draw had given her a very tough opponant. Violet of the Ceruleon city gym! Becky feared that she would find herself eliminated on the first day. After all, being a gym leader, Violet had tons of experiance battling pokemon. It also didn't help that the Gym in Ceruleon specialised in water types. Becky, however, had faith in her own water pokemon. Waverider would have to fight her very best to win this battle. Taking a moment to study her opponant before the match offically began, Becky saw someone as confident as Becky was nervous. Violet was used to large crowds. Ceruleon Gym was known almost as well for the shows put on by Violet and her sisters as it was for being an official Kanto gym. Violet, her long blue hair shining in the bright day and her green dress flattering her youthful figure was working the already excited crowd into a fenzy. She hadn't yet even glanced in Becky's direction. Waving to the crowd, ponting out people she knew and waving to them specifically, blowing all the males in the audience exagerated kisses, the blue haired gyn leader had them eating out of the palm of her hand. Becky took a deep breath, fingering the pokeball that contained her only water type pokemon. Waverider the Lapras was the only pokemon in her stable qualified for the water-type only tournament. If she were to advance much further into the tournament, she would have to rent or borrow others. Travis and she had both agreed, if one of them were eliminated, then the other could use their pokemon to fight future battles. Becky had already staked out the choices for rental from the officials of the tounamet. There was a Poliwrath that she planned to rent. The half fighting type would compliment her battling style well. Suddenly an amplified voice echoed off the walls of the arena. The crowd was in such a state that it had to repeat itself a few times before the crowd would pay attention. "This battle, the second battle of block A," the anouncer spoke, "Will be between Violet of the famous Ceruleon gym, and aren't we fortunate folks to have a second sister of that famous gym here with us today? Her opponant will be Becky Thornbird. They will be allowed one pokemon each!" Violet finally turned her attention to Becky as she pulled out a pokeball. "My my, such a cute outfit!" Violet said snidly tossing the ball up and down. Becky was dressed in her customary karate outfit tied at the waste with a black belt. "Really dear, you should dress up when your in public! It is so much more humilating to lose while badly dressed! Go Dewgong!' She cried throwing out her pokeball. A red light shot out and landed on one of the five stone platfroms sitting on the water where it coalessed into a Dewgong. "This is a pokemon battle, not a fashion show." Becky replied angrily releasing Waverider into the water. "And I don't intend to lose!" "Violet has chosen to use Dewgong! Becky will use a Lapras." the onnouncer informed the crowd excitedly. "Let the battle begin!" "Dewgong, use Ice Beam!' Violet cried. "Lapras, use your Ice Beam!" Becky shouted back The two pokemon released twin bolts of white light at each other. the two beams met in the center of the arena, causing a blinding flash. Evenly matched, the two beams seemed to push at one another, gaining a foot then losing ground. At the same time both pokemn let the Ice Beam dissapate. "Impressive." Violet said grudgingly. "Not many pokemon can match evenly with Dewgong with that attack." "Waverider can" Becky answered with pride evident in her voice. "Then we will try a differant tactic." Violet stated. "Dewgong, use headbuttt!" The Seal jumped in the water and swam striaght at the Lapras in response. "Dodge it, Wavreider!" Becky called out. Lapras dodged to the right just in time as Dewgong bore down. "Now use Psychic!" Becky shouted. Waveriders eyes glowed red and a responsive red aura sourouned the Dewgong. Using Doewgongs own momentum, the Lapras shoved causing Dewgong to hit the arena wall with a sickening smack. "Oh no!' Violet cried out as the Dewgong landed dazed on one of the stone platforms. "Dewgong, use Rest!" The Dewgongs eyes half closed and it grew still as it's energy began rapidly renewing itself. "Soloarbeam, now!" Becky called out. Lapras obediantly began pulling in energy for the strong attack. For a moment, the action stopped, Dewgong recovering, and Lapras building "Hurry hurry hurry!" Becky heard Violet muttering. Then Dewgong's eyes, which had been almost completely shut blinked open. At the same time, a bright orange light speared from Lapras right at Dewgong. Dewgong saw it to late and was unable to dodge as the powerful light launched him from the platform! "GOOOOOOOOONNNNNNG!" It cried out in agony before crashing into the water. "Finish it, Wavrerider, use Psychcic!" And the eyes of the Lapras glowed once more, her gaze directed towards the water. For a long moment nothing happened as the crowd waited for the Dewgong to come into view. When at last it did, the anouncer took one look and cried "Dewgong is unable to battle! the winner of the match is Lapras and Becky Thornbird! As the crowd went wild shouting and applauding, Violet recalled the dazed Dewgong and left the battler's platform without a word. Becky turned as scanned the crowd, finding Travis. He was smiling and shot her a thumbs up as the crowd began chanting her name. Becky flushed in embabarrassment and turned to recall Wavrerider. "Good job" she said softly to the pokemon back in it's ball. Still flushed but happy, she turned and left the arena * * * "Congradulations." Travis said. The pair was celebrating Becky's victory over Violet of Ceruleon gym at a restaraunt. Both had plates piled high with food, since it was free to the participants. "Tough battle, but you handled it like a champ." He added holding up a glass in salut. Becky flushed anew, but before she could reply, a soft, feminine voice said "Indeed, a worthy battle." The pair of teens looked up to find a very pretty woman, dressed in purple that matched the color of her hair. Travis recognised her as the woman he was going to talk to before being interupted when registaring for the Whirl Cup. "May I join you?" The woman asked. "Sure." Becky answered warily. The woman sat down beside Travis in the booth. "Your sister?" Becky asked remarking on the simalarities in hair color between the two. "My name is Trinity." Trinity replied. "Travis in my first opponant in the Whirl Cup. I like to scout out who I face." "Have you been in many competitions?" Travis asked her. "Oh yes, this will be my sixth time." Trinity answered. "I've made it to the top four in all but two." She added pridefully. "Going to be tough to get past you, then." Travis replied unperturbed. "I'm sure you will do fine." Trininty stated. Looking down at the pokeball's on Travis' belt, she continued. "So what are you packing?" Following the woman's gaze, Travis grew mischieveous and deadpanned, "Seven and a ha..." Trinity's eyes grew wide and she quickly interupted, "Pokemon! I mean what kind of pokemon do you have?" "Oh." Travis answered without a hint of a smile. "I guess it does no harm to tell you since you caould look it up in the registration information anyway. I have a Tentacruel, a Marril, and a Slowpoke. And maybe a Lapras depending on how things turn out." "I see." Trinity replied. "Well, good luck. Your going to need it with that lineup. I hope you have trained them well. Training water pokemon to be viable battlers isn't easy, you know." "I've lived around water pokemon all my life." Travis supplied. "I grew up in the Orange Islands. I think I have done ok." "I see." Trinity repeated. Standing up to leave, she added, "Again, good luck. I look forward to our battle tomorrow1" "Wait a second." Becky said stopping the woman in her tracks. "You didn't tell Travis what kind of pokemon you would be using." "Oh, my dear girl." Trinity replied haughtily. "You should never give your opponant that kind of edge!" 'That's dirty!' Becky exclaimed outraged. "You shouldn't ask if you aren't willing to tell!" "Not my fault if your friend felt it ok to give away the advantage. Now I know what he will use and he doesn't know what I will." Trinity replied smugly. "Who said I don't know?" Travis asked. To Becky he listed "Trinity uses a Golduck, and Chinchou and her main battler, a Gyarados. She went to the final match last year, but lost when her Chinchou fell pray to a Quagsire, and a Lanturn took out both her Golduck and Gyarados.' As both Becky and Trinity stared at him open mouthed, Travis said. "What? Like i said, it's all in the registration information. And looking up last year's tournament results just makes sense." To Trinity, he added. "You might have won last year if your Golduck didn't take so much damage from that Quagsire. But I must say, considering Gyarados is your mainstay, he should be at a high enough level so that a single Zap Cannon wouldn't take him out. I hope you have done some intensive training with him, or this year you might not make it past the first round!" Trinity just stared a moment longer. Then with a toss of her purple hair, she left the table without another word. Becky giggled at the woman's ill grace. Suddenly remembering an earlier encounter, Becky said Travis, "Hey, guess who I ran into before my match?" "Who?" Travis asked "Remember that shy shepardess girl, Sarah? We ran into her a couple of times. Traveled with her breifly, after staying at her house." "Yes." Travis answered remembering. "How is she? Wasn't that green haired girl Roxie who lost the match before yours her rival or something?" "Oh yeah! I had forgotten about that." Becky replied. "But Sarah has completely changed! She stole my shtick! She has been training at the Fighting gym under Chuck, the gym leader. She even changed her name, She calls herself Belle now. She isn't the shy, stammering girl we used to know. She is downright aggressive these days." "Interesting." Travis stated. "Good to hear she has gained some confidense. Wonder what has happened to her since the last time we saw her." "I don't know." Becky answered. "But she doesn't care for boys much, so i think you lost your chance with her." "Oh?" Travis replied. "No great loss. Besides, I am used to girls that dislike boys. After all, we been traveling together a long time now" He went on with a wink. "Seems you were an inspiration to her." "I doubt it." Becky returned. "She didn't even recognise me." "We better finish up here. I want to hit the rack early tonight. My match is the last one tomorrow, but i want to be well rested anyway." -- Worry's first SIG sig file ------------------------------------------------------------------ *"It takes a Worried man to sing a Worried song..."
