(ooc: Sorry for the late posting of this match. We had an ice storm come
through Wed. here in North Carolina, knocked out my power from Wed. night
till half an hour ago. Plus the postponement from day 1 caused me a small
rewrite.)
"Congradulations." Travis said. The pair was celebrating Becky's victory
over Violet of Ceruleon gym at a restaraunt. Both had plates piled high
with food, since it was free to the participants. "Tough battle, but you
handled it like a champ." He added holding up a glass in salut.
Becky flushed anew, but before she could reply, a soft, feminine voice said
"Indeed, a worthy battle." The pair of teens looked up to find a very
pretty woman, dressed in purple that matched the color of her hair. Travis
recognised her as the woman he was going to talk to before being interupted
when registaring for the Whirl Cup. "May I join you?" The woman asked.
"Sure." Becky answered warily. The woman sat down beside Travis in the
booth. "Your sister?" Becky asked remarking on the simalarities in hair
color between the two.
"My name is Trinity." Trinity replied. "Travis in my first opponant in the
Whirl Cup. I like to scout out who I face."
"Have you been in many competitions?" Travis asked her.
"Oh yes, this will be my sixth time." Trinity answered. "I've made it to
the top four in all but two." She added pridefully.
"Going to be tough to get past you, then." Travis replied unperturbed.
"I'm sure you will do fine." Trininty stated codensendingly. Looking down
at the pokeball's on Travis' belt, she continued. "So what are you
packing?"
Following the woman's gaze, Travis grew mischieveous and deadpanned, "Seven
and a ha..."
Trinity's eyes grew wide and she quickly interupted, "Pokemon! I mean what
kind of pokemon do you have?"
"Oh." Travis answered without a hint of a smile. "I guess it does no harm
to tell you since you caould look it up in the registration information
anyway. I have a Tentacruel, a Marril, and a Slowpoke. And maybe a Lapras
depending on how things turn out."
"I see." Trinity replied. "Well, good luck. Your going to need it with that
lineup. I hope you have trained them well. Training water pokemon to be
viable battlers isn't easy, you know."
"I've lived around water pokemon all my life." Travis supplied. "I grew up
in the Orange Islands. I think I have done ok."
"I see." Trinity repeated. Standing up to leave, she added, "Again, good
luck. I look forward to our battle tomorrow1"
"Wait a second." Becky said stopping the woman in her tracks. "You didn't
tell Travis what kind of pokemon you would be using."
"Oh, my dear girl." Trinity replied haughtily. "You should never give your
opponant that kind of edge!"
'That's dirty!' Becky exclaimed outraged. "You shouldn't ask if you aren't
willing to tell!"
"Not my fault if your friend felt it ok to give away the advantage. Now I
know what he will use and he doesn't know what I will." Trinity replied
smugly.
"Who said I don't know?" Travis asked. To Becky he listed "Trinity uses a
Golduck, a Chinchou, and her main battler, a Gyarados. She went to the
final match last year, but lost when her Chinchou fell pray to a Quagsire,
and a Lanturn took out both her Golduck and Gyarados.'
As both Becky and Trinity stared at him open mouthed, Travis said. "What?
Like i said, it's all in the registration information. And looking up last
year's tournament results just makes sense." To Trinity, he added. "You
might have won last year if your Golduck didn't take so much damage from
that Quagsire. But I must say, considering Gyarados is your mainstay, he
should be at a high enough level so that a single Zap Cannon wouldn't take
him out. I hope you have done some intensive training with him, or this
year you might not make it past the first round!"
Trinity just stared a moment longer. Then with a toss of her purple hair,
she left the table without another word. Becky giggled at the woman's ill
grace.
Suddenly remembering an earlier encounter, Becky said Travis, "Hey, guess
who I ran into before my match?"
"Who?" Travis asked
"Remember that shy shepardess girl, Sarah? We ran into her a couple of
times. Traveled with her breifly, after staying at her house."
"Yes." Travis answered remembering. "How is she? Wasn't that green haired
girl Roxie who lost the match before yours her rival or something?"
"Oh yeah! I had forgotten about that." Becky replied. "But Sarah has
completely changed! She stole my shtick! She has been training at the
Fighting gym under Chuck, the gym leader. She even changed her name, She
calls herself Belle now. She isn't the shy, stammering girl we used to
know. She is downright aggressive these days."
"Interesting." Travis stated. "Good to hear she has gained some confidense.
Wonder what has happened to her since the last time we saw her."
"I don't know." Becky answered. "But she doesn't care for boys much, so I
think you lost your chance with her."
"Oh?" Travis replied. "No great loss. Besides, I am used to girls that
dislike boys. After all, we been traveling together a long time now" He
went on with a wink. "Seems you were an inspiration to her."
"I doubt it." Becky returned. "She disn't even recognise me."

The next day, as Trinity and Travis faced each other in the arena, Trinity
was still angry. Glaring daggers at the purple haired teen, she held her
pokeball in a fist cliched so tight that it was a wonder that she didn't
crush it. Travis regarded her with his usual calm, looking as though at any
minute he would break into a huge yawn. Trinity appeared to grow even more
upset at his seming calm. In the stands, Becky comiserated with her.
"We now present the eigth match of block B!" The anouncer exetedly
remarked. "What was to be the last match of day two, before a postponement
on day one, and it promises to be a humdinger! Featuring Trinity, a
perrinial favorite of the Whirl cup! Last year Trinity came within a single
attack of claiming the ultimate prize! Her opponant today, making his very
first appearance here on Red Rock Isle is Travis. Travis hails from
Valencia Island! Will this newcomer prove tough enough to derail another
title run for Trinity?"
The crowd, which had been exhausted cheering the full day of matches came
to life once again, shouting thier opinions with enthusism. Most seemed to
favor Trinity, but if it bothered Travis in the least, he didn't show it. A
small but vocal group in the stands were pulling for Travis to defeat the
purple haired woman.
Trinity, ignoring the adulation givin her from the fans in the crowd,
glared sourly at the vocal group of naysayers. Finally releasing her
deathgrip on her pokeball, she hurled it towards the water, shouting
"Gyarados, I chose you!"
Travis watched calmly as a red light shot from the thrown pokeball and grew
to coalese into a huge, scary looking Gyarados. Throwing his own pokeball,
Travis stated, "Tendril, this one is yours. Do your best." Tendril appeared
in the water, regarding the intimidating Gyarados with calmness that
matched his trainer's.
"OOOO folks! Trinity is taking this match seriously! She has sent out her
Gyarados, though historically, she saved him for later rounds. Travis has
countered with a Tentacruel! It appears as though these two trainers will
put on a great show! Let the match begin!"
"Gyarados, use Hyperbeam!" Trinity shouted, eager to end the match early.
Obedientanly, the Gyarados gathered energy quickly for it's most powerful
attack.
"Tendril, reflect!" Travis called out. The Tentacruel waved its tenticles
in front of himself like a magician. A faint sheen in the air was all that
could be seen as an invisable barrier appeared between the two pokemon. A
second later, the white hot enrergy from Gyarados's Hyper Beam struck that
barrier, turning it visible as it held back the attack. For a moment, it
looked as though the Reflect would hold, but at he last moment, it broke,
allowing the Hyper Beam to strike home, though severly lessoned. Tendril
was shoved backwards through the water. Tendril quickly swam to his
previous position, seemingly unhurt.
"Now Tendril, before Gyarados recovers, use Super Sonic!" Travis called
out. Tendril emitied a high pitch screech. The effect on the huge Gyarados
was immediate. It began to Thrash uselessly in place.
"Gyarados, use Water Gun!" Trinity called out desparately. The Gyarados
tried it's best to obey his mistress, shooting out a stream of water so
powerful that it more resembled a Hydro Pump thatn a Water gun. But the
attack missed narowly, thrown off target by the still confused and
thrashing pokemon. The attack caused a decent sized wave that rushed towrd
Travis, hitting the wall below the trainer and soaking him before the wall
refelcted the wave back towards the center of the huge pool.
"Tendril, Surf!" Travis called out. The tentacruel obedientently acesnded
the returning wave, his tenticles busy underwater directing it. As the wave
reached the Gyarados, Tendril launched himself off of it and smalled into
the head of the great beast. The Gyarados reeled as Tendril returned to the
water, coming up ready for more action. The Gyarados, though damaged, came
back gamely, no longer confused.
Seizing the oppurtunity, Trinity called out "Hyper Beam." Gyarados pulled
in energy again, though much slower this time around. Tendril once more
performed his magician act, without being told, and the Reflect was in
place long before the Gyrados released the Hyper Beam.
Once more the Reflect held the attack, absorbing even more of it this time
around before breaking. Tendril was struck, but barely aknowledged any
damage. "Now, finish it! Use Sludge Bomb!" Travis called out. Tendril rose
out of the water, firing off a big ball of sticky black sludge from his ink
sack. The well aimed poisionous ball hit the Gyarados right in the center
of it's his allways open mouth! The force of the Sludge bomb attack forced
over half of it deep into Gyarados's gullet, forcing him to either swallow
of choke.
The effect of the attack was immediate. Crying out in agony, Gyarados
thrashed about losing control. The poison took hold rapidly, and it was all
it took to finish off the already damaged Gyarados. With another agonised
cry, the entire length of the the serpentine pokemon stretched out making a
brief exclamation point straight into the air before falling over like a
chopped down tree. Landing with his upper half on one of the stone islands
of the areana, Gyrados fainted.
"Gyarados is unable to battle, the Match goes to Travis of Valencia
Island!" The anouncer called out excitedly. The crowd erupted with cheers,
shouts and applause as Trinity recalled the fainted Gyarados and rushed out
of the areana to get the poisoned pokemon treated. Tendril, worn out as it
was from the close match, nevertheless took a victory lap around the pool
waving two tendrils in the air above his head in a victory sign as Travis
looked on proudly.
"What a great match these two trainers have shown us!" The anouncer went on
after the crowd began to quiet. "This is shaping up to be a great year in
the Whirl Cup competition! one more match to go and round one is over,
afterwards, the pairings for Round two will being decided! Please check
the infromation boards outside the arena and at the pokemon center for the
round two pairings! As exciting as these past two days have been, we are
just getting started! Who will win the coveted Mystic Waster pendant this
year? Stay tuned and find out!"
