Subject: [PW!] One-Hit Wonder Date: Fri, 27 Dec 2002 10:09:51 GMT From: Rob <robfrompw@yahoo.com> Organization: AT&T Worldnet Newsgroups: alt.games.nintendo.pokemon A sandy-haired young man wearing a white Karate gi and a black belt exits one of the Scarlet City Pokemon Center's rooms into a hallway. He remarks, "Your Sunkern is no match for my Lanturn, Belle." "Shhhh," whispers a blonde young woman who steps out of the room next. She's also wearing a white gi, but hers is tied at the waist by a white belt instead of a black one. She hisses, "Master Chuck's already stopped us from battlin' twice this week. Do you want him to wake up and stop us again, Timmy? Are you THAT afraid of losin'?" Although Chuck doesn't hear the commotion, a green-haired biker girl up ahead in the hallway does. Fortunately for her, she's just finished picking the lock of a door she's been trying to open for about an hour. She quietly sneaks into the room, not wanting to wake up the magician she imagines is sleeping inside who she plans to rob a shiny Unown from. Upon entering the room and seeing that no one is there, she holds back a curse word and decides to head out through the room's window. About a minute later, Belle is standing across from Timmy outside the Pokemon Center. She pulls a pink Love Ball out of her gi and tosses it onto the ground. A happy green Sunkern appears, turns around, and immediately floats over to the girl who released her. The Seed Pokemon starts rubbing her body up against one of Belle's legs, happy that the girl who saved her from a Hoothoot is her Trainer again, and Timmy starts chuckling at the sight. Belle scolds her Grass Pokemon, "Sunkern, stop that! You're embarrassin' me! It's time to fight, not nuzzle." The Sunkern understands her Trainer and bounces away from her. "Kern!" She assumes a fighting position, which is a hard thing for a Pokemon without limbs to do. She achieves the effect by holding the two leaves growing out of her head in a position that implies she's about to use them to strike at an opponent. One of the leaves curves inward as Sunkern eggs Timmy on, wanting him to send out a Pokemon, "Sunkern, kern!" Timmy produces a Great Ball from within his gi and pushes the button on it, releasing his Lanturn. The moment the blue and yellow Fish Pokemon lands on the concrete sidewalk, Timmy orders, "Lanturn, Take Down!" The Water Pokemon slaps both of his fins onto the ground, launching himself into the air! He lands on top of Belle's Sunkern, Taking her Down. When Timmy's Lanturn slides away from the Sunkern, she has fainted. Timmy laughs before saying, "That was fast." Without saying a word, Belle recalls her Sunkern into her Love Ball and runs into the Pokemon Center. She tosses the Love Ball at the Nurse Joy stationed behind the Center's front desk. When the nurse catches it, Belle grunts, "Heal her." Nurse Joy inserts the Love Ball into a Healing machine and checks the Pokemon's statistics on her computer screen, which is hooked up to the machine. She smiles and says, "I see your Sunkern's at Level 10. Now would be a great time to evolve her!" Belle smirks, "Oh yeah, like you can make Pokemon evolve whenever you want 'em to." "For certain Pokemon, you can." Nurse Joy informs Belle, who's surprised by the news, "Some Pokemon only evolve when they come in contact with a special Stone. A Sunkern evolves into Sunflora when he or she comes in contact with a Sun Stone. I think now would be a good time to evolve your Sunkern because Sunflora learn Razor Leaf at level 10. Your Sunkern would automatically learn the attack upon evolving, adding it to her current arsenal of..." Joy consults the monitor once again before saying, "Absorb, Growth, and Mega Drain!" "What does a 'Sun Stone' look like?" Belle queries, eager to evolve her weak little Pokemon who was just defeated in one hit, "And where can I find one? Are there any here on Red Rock Isle?" "Oh no, we don't have any." Nurse Joy loads her computer's Internet browser to perform a search as she says, "You'd think Yellow Rock Isle south of here would have some, being that it's full of yellow rocks, but I don't think there's any Sun Stone quarries over there either. Your best bet would be to win the Bug Catching Contest at the National Park, but you look like you're a little too old to enter." After performing an Internet Search for an image of a Sun Stone, Nurse Joy swivels her monitor over towards Belle, showing her the picture she found. "That looks familiar..." Belle squints her eyes at the screen, trying to remember where she's seen the rock before, "Oh yeah! I've got one in the bag Nurse Wendy's keepin' for me over at the Cianwood City Hospital. Just one more reason I can't wait to get back to Cianwood City tomorrow mornin'! Thanks for the advice!" Belle exclaims, as Nurse Joy hands her back her Love Ball. She sneaks back into the room she's staying at for the night. As she slips into her cot, she's glad to see that Chuck is still asleep in the room's only bed and her six fellow students, including Timmy, are all sound asleep in their cots. -Belle
