Dbu was feeling immensely pleased with himself. Coming across the half-
Ditto was a pure stroke of luck! It was tricky to manipulate her without
the brethren she hosted figuring it out, though. Still, the Dark ball he
had had Ivy make for him apparently worked exactly as intended. None of the
brethren felt his presence.
Becky had needed an explanation for the experience on the beach. The
knowledge of what her clone had felt after being shot, the knowledge of
dying, was weighing much to heavily on her mind. It was a simple matter to
have her Want to take any explanation available. The boy was another matter
entirely. Manipulating that one's mind was like trying to roll a boulder
uphill. He had a latent Psychic ability of his own that was remarkably
similar to Dbu's own.
Aerie had been awoken by the loud sound of gunfire upon the beach. Thinking
that Trent had somehow fulfilled his objective and had caught Yolie
unawares on the beach, the halfling had gone to investigate. She was
surprised to find the pair of fire horse riding teens coming pell mell up
the beach. Intrigued, she had followed them until they found Officer Jenny
and told their wild tale. After listening, Aerie had decided the incident
had nothing to do with her. Probably just thugs, possibly Team Rocket,
trying to steal a powerful pokemon.
Dbu was alerted to the girl's presence by the Unown that controlled her.
Dbu was not pleased to find Dee was a part of the collective that was in
control of her. Dee shared a power trait with Dbu, but used it in the most
vulgar manner. Where Dbu prodded, Dee pushed. Where Dbu poked, Dee pounded.
But because Dee used his power to hammer his subjects into submission, he
was unaware when Dbu used his power much more subtlety to make Aerie Want
to meet Becky. Placing in Aerie's mind an admiration of the black belt's
ability, he made Aerie Want to appear as her. Then he made Becky Want to
believe that it had actually been Aerie who had been shot on the beach
instead of an actual double of her. So powerful was that desire,
considering how 'Aerie's' remembrances of what had happened on the beach,
how the double had died, had become part of her own memories never occurred
to her.
"Well, that explains that." Becky stated relief heavy in her voice.
"Does it?" Travis asked mildy.
"Of course!" Becky answered. "Aerie is a shapshifter, She was the one that
appeared as me to help us out down there. And she got shot for her
troubles."
"Mmm-hmm." Travis replied distantly.
'Something is wrong here.' Dbu thought. 'The boy isn't reacting as he
should be.'
"We better get back to the room." Travis stated. "You have a big match
tomorrow against a well rested opponent. Better get as much rest as you
can."
"You are right." Becky replied. "That fight on the beach took a lot out of
me. I am tired."
"Give me your pokemon, I will get them one last treatment. You can head on
up and go to sleep. After all that action, I am a little hungry, so I am
off for a snack. I'll make sure not to wake you when I come in."
Becky handed over the pokemon and started up the stairs. Halfway up, she
paused and turned around. "Travis?"
"Yes?"
"I-I just wanted to say, you were great out on the beach. I never thought
you had it in you."
"Thanks, but it was Kicker and Fireslap that saved my bacon."
Travis watched as Becky turned and continued up the stairs. He then went to
Nurse Joys station and left Tendril, Waverider and the rented Poliwrath
with the night duty nurse, warning her that someone had tried to steal the
Poliwrath earlier.
Then he left the pokecenter, released Hoofer and rode him down to the
beach. Riding far past where the pair had been attacked, he found a small
stand of trees. Riding into them he found the remnants of a campfire.
Gathering some wood, he had Hoofer light it ablaze making a new campfire
over the old before recalling the fire horse. Then he pulled Dbu's ball out
and released him. "I am onto you. We need to talk." Travis said to the
Unown softly.
