Becky spoke softly to the pokeball containing her plucky battler before placing it back on her belt. Pulling another ball off, she pressed the release button and hurled it towards the water. "Time to see if the cash was worth it. Go Poliwrath!" The Poliwrath appeared on a stone platform just long enough to locate his opponent. Then, without awaiting orders, it swan straight at Robert's newly evolved battler! "Wow folks!" The announcers voice rang out. "Becky has chosen a Poliwrath, and it looks like he is eager for battle!" Before either trainer could react, Poliwrath caught up to the swiftly swimming Seadra. Grabbing Seadra's snout and her tail, Poliwrath bent the newly evolved pokemon backwards, putting it in a devastating Submission hold! "Dooooooo!" The Seadra cried out in agony But Poliwraths hands weren't meant for gripping. He lost his grasp on the other pokemon's tail first, causing it to snap straight again, and further causing Poliwrath's hand to loose the grip on her snout. Seadra flipped end over end above the water before splashing back in in front of Robert's platform. "Wow." Robert said staring daggers at the overly aggressive Poliwrath. Seadra was under the water for less than thirty seconds before surfacing. She was bruised but not beaten, and ready for action. "Don't let that bruiser grab you again, Seadra, Use Smokescreen!" Seadra immediately shot out a thick cloud of black smoke that settled on the waters surface. Seadra then dived underneath the cloud and was lost to the coughing Poliwrath's site. "Poliwrath, dive and try and find Seadra, then use submission again!" Becky called out. Poliwrath went under the water, but didn't immediately see the Searda. "Seadra, Twister is the way to go! We will make it a Twister hat trick!" Robert hollered out. Beneath the water, the Seadra began swimming rapidly around the blinded Poliwrath. Soon, the Poliwrath felt itself caught up in a whirlpool. The audience in the stadium saw a water spout suddenly appear above the smoke, with the helplessly spinning Poliwrath in the center! Poliwrath, however, wasn't thrown horizontally. Like a ball from a cannon, he was shot straight out of the top! Up and up he flew, before gravity claimed him again. For a moment he hung suspended in the air, just long enough to give out a confused "Poli?" before he began a long fall. As he fell, Poliwrath twisted his body, turning his plunge into a dive. The impact with the water was lessened as he cut into it with a huge splash rather than landing flat on it's surface. Under the water and up went Poliwrath. Landing on one of the stone platforms, he searched out his foe. "Seadra, don't let him find you! Smokescreen!" Robert called out. Once more a thick black cloud obscured the water, replacing what had been blown away by the earlier twister. Seadra snout was the only thing that appeared, and Poliwrath saw it but quickly lost track again. Poliwrath was about to dive under the water to continue looking when Becky's voice stopped him. "No Poliwrath, use Mind Reader, Find Seadra that way!" Poliwrath closed it's eyes, its hands held in front of his face palms turned towards the water and began swaying back and forth. Soon his mind locked on to what his eyes couldn't see. "Seadra, use Water gun! Disrupt Poliwrath concentration!" Robert called out. A sudden jet of water speared up from the smoke below and struck Poliwrath squarely on the swirl decorating it's belly. But if Poliwrath even noticed, it was not evident. "Now Poliwrath! Finish it! Use Fissure!" Becky cried. Poliwrath's hands clapped together in front of his face, and he brought them down in a mighty chop that actually chipped the thick stone platform on which he stood. The Smokescreen was still in place, so the crowd couldn't see what happened, but they did hear a mighty roar. Below the smoke, Seadra found herself floating in air. At first she thought that she had been launched from the water, but she fell straight down, landing hard on the pool bottom! Just enough light penetrated the smoke above to show her a terrifying sight as she floundered. Looking up her eyes grew comically wide at the sight she saw. A solid wall of water rose up into the distance on either side of her. Even as she caught the sight, she could see the top of the walls collapsing, creating in a wave that rushed down at her from either side. "Ooo doo doo." Her small voice said just before the water struck her. The crowd couldn't see it happening, but they heard the waves. Being island folks, they knew exactly what the sound signified. Then another roar was heard as a five foot tall wall of water appeared in a straight line away from Poliwrath, blowing away the smoke even as it went. The crowd gasped as the water began to settle. "A devastating Fissure attack!" The announcer cried out, this time not sounding as though he were trying to pump up the crowd. "But was Seadra able to dodge it?" As if in answer, Seadra's limp form floated into view right in front of Robert. Her eyes were closed and even if she had been awake, it was obvious she was in no condition to continue the battle. "Seadra is unable to battle! the match goes to Becky Thornbird!" The match referee called out as a formality. Robert felt himself filled with fear as he bent down to check on his pokemon. For one horrifying second, he thought that she hadn't survived! His relief was very visible when he heard a very faint "Doooo" come from Seadra. "Oh thank god!" He cried out lifting her from the water and cradling the injured form in his arms. He sat rocking Seadra back and forth for a moment before he felt a hand on his shoulder. Looking up he saw Becky standing over him. "I-is Seadra ok?" Becky asked, deep concern evident on her face "She is very badly injured." Robert replied gravely. "But she is alive. I need to get her to the pokemon center quickly" "Come on, then." Becky said extending her hand to help him to his feet. "I have my Ponyta with me, we can ride him to the pokecenter. He is about as fast as they come." With that she took Robert's pokeball and stored Seadra into it since Robert couldn't do so with his hands full. They both left through the western exit. Neither heard a sound from the crowd, who weren't cheering. Everyone had caught onto the seriousness of the situation. "There will be a short recess before our next match." The announcer's subdued voice called out. "We all wish Seadra a speedy recovery!" Then as if realized he had a job to do, His voice gained strength as he cried out. "But what an amazing battle she showed us here today, eh folks? Let's hear it for the battle she just showed us folks! Wasn't she great?" At first the crowd didn't respond, but soon a single person could be heard clapping. Every eye turned to Travis as he sat clapping his hands together. Soon another person joined in, then another. Someone cheered, and started to chant "Seadra Seadra!" Soon the place was rocking with that chant. having gotten it started, Travis left unnoticed, racing down to the pokemon center to check on his new and old friend. Taveler made the trip in record time. His hooves actually kicked up sparks from the sidewalk as he skidded to a halt. Even as the fire horse was coming to a stop, Robert was off of him and rushing into the center. Two Nurse Joys awaited him. "We saw on closed circuit." One of them stated as Robert began to explain. Taking the pokeball from him, She ran into the back, a Chansey hot on her heals. "Seadra will be just fine." The other Joy said cheerfully. "She just needs a treatment, and she will be as good as new! Would you like me to take your Lapras back?" Becky hadn't even considered Waverider. But she handed her ball over quickly when Joy mentioned it. As she did so, cheering, growing wilder by the second sounded over the closed circuit monitor above the nurse's station. A chant for Seadra grew in volume, and Robert couldn't help but swell with pride for his newly evolved pokemon. He soon grew anxious again as he and Becky, moments later joined by Travis and one of the guards from the coliseum, waited for word on Seadra's status. Robert hardly heard anything said as he stared at the red hypodermic sign above the door. Robert gave a slight jump when it finally went out, and another as Nurse Joy came through the door. "Seadra will be just fine." Joy stated cheerfully as she walked up. "Her injuries weren't as severe as they looked. She will be with you again by this afternoon!" "Oh thank goodness." Robert said with a voice shaky with his relief. Travis and Becky both slapped him reassureadly on the shoulder as the guard stepped away to speak into his walkie talkie. Moments later the announcers voice came from the closed circuit interrupting the match in progress with, "Folks, we just heard back from Nurse Joy. Seadra will be just fine!" The announcement was met with more raucous cheering. -- Worry's first SIG sig file ------------------------------------------------------------------ *"It takes a Worried man to sing a Worried song..."
