Subject: [PW!] Sittin' On The Dock of Maiden's Peak Date: Wed, 16 Oct 2002 03:31:50 GMT From: Rob <robfrompw@yahoo.com> Organization: AT&T Worldnet Newsgroups: alt.games.nintendo.pokemon "I know, I can become a game show host!" Marvin, a brown-haired middle-aged man sitting on a green bean bag chair at a dock, exclaims, holding the index finger of his right hand high... for a moment, then it gradually becomes limp and his arm drops back down to his side. The man comments out loud, "There aren't any game shows taped in or around Maiden's Peak..." Suddenly, he hears a soft but sophisticated voice that he recognizes behind him, "There you are, master. My sister and I have been attempting fruitlessly to locate you throughout the entire day. Where have you been?" Marvin swivels in the chair he's sitting on to see a Growlithe sniffing at the dock and he addresses her, "I've been sitting on the dock all day - hey, wait a minute! I've got it! I could become a singer!" The man wearing a golden tuxedo half-sings in an off-key voice, "I'm siiittin' on the dock of the baaay, waaatching the tiiii..." "Stop! Please stop!" The Growlithe shapeshifts into a purple Ditto who uses her pseudopods to cover the sides of her head. She continues her plea, "I beg of you - for the love of all that is righteous, please stop singing, master." Marvin slumps down in his favorite chair and sighs, "Sorry, Xerox. I knew I wasn't Jason Bard, but I didn't know my singing was THAT bad. Another career ended before it even started... what am I going to do here at Maiden's Peak to make a living?" "Oh, this again." Xerox rolls her small black eyes. Marvin scratches the side of his head in confusion, "What do you mean 'again'? We've come to Maiden's Peak for the End of the Summer Festival for the past eight years, but this is the first time I've wanted to stay and start up a new career here." Xerox oozes up onto Marvin's lap and looks up at him as she speaks, "That is true, but every other year, you have a sudden desire to make some radical changes in your life, many times involving a change of career and/or location." "What're you talking about?" Marvin shakes his head, "No I don't! I'm a very stable, grounded, down to Earth person." "Ah, the bliss of having a weak long-term memory." Xerox comments, "Sometimes I think I would be happier if I, like most of the beings on this planet, forgot almost every single deed I had done throughout the course of my life, since I would not be forced to remember the poor choices I have made. Regardless, I do appreciate my excellent long term memory that it helps me in my pursuit of knowledge. But I digress - back to the matter at hand. No, master, you are not." "I'm not what?" Marvin says, "I forgot what we were talking about." Xerox sighs, then explains, "You are not stable, nor are you grounded. Let us examine a small sample of your history, from the moment we met to the present day. You spent three years traveling around Kanto with my sister and I in a caravan performing magic..." "Yeah, and you and Famifax are still with me and I still perform magic to this day!" Marvin waves his hand a black magic wand with white tips appears in it, "See, no difference. Not grounded, p'shaw." "Then..." Xerox continues, "All of a sudden, one day you decided to become a Pokemon Master, bought a boat, and sailed to the Orange Islands, where you rarely performed magic since you were trying to earn Badges over the course of two years." Marvin twirls his magic wand, "Yeah, but the few magic shows I performed over there were SPECTACULAR, and besides, the only reason I wanted to become a Pokemon Master was to promote my magic show." He stops twirling the wand and reveals that it has transformed into a fishing pole. He casts the pole's line out into the sea. "One day on Mandarin Island, some music man with a pet Aipom told you about Johto, so you immediately stopped trying to earn Badges, sailed to Johto, sold your boat, and bought a van to travel around Johto in." Xerox points up at the Sea Ruby Badge pinned on Marvin's silver bowtie, "You have still only earned that one Badge to this day." The magician starts pulling on the fishing pole, and reeling something in, while saying, "Okay, so maybe I do travel a whole lot, but you can't accuse me of changing my career often, Xerox. I've liked magic since as far back as I can remember and it was always my dream to be a famous magician..." Marvin reels in a large bouquet of colorful, but wet, flowers. Xerox nods and says, "So then why did you consider becoming a singer? Your calling is to be a magician. You know as well as I do that here at Maiden's Peak your abilities would only be appreciated once a year when tourists visit, so let us return to our home in the bustling metropolis called Goldenrod, where an audience is available every single day you wish to perform." "You're right, Xerox." Marvin hands the bouquet of flowers to his Ditto, "I guess I just got carried away - after my great performance here last month, I felt right at home at last and decided to stay here, but it turns out I only felt that way because I was surrounded by all those tourists who liked my show. Now that the tourists are gone, my trying to find a new career just to make a living here doesn't make much sense... But do you think Famifax will want to leave?" "WOOOOHOOO!" A girl with pink pigtails in her late teens runs out onto the dock wearing a pink bikini, a Pink Bow, and a pink Caterpie on her shoulder. She gives Marvin and Xerox a big hug from behind, "Like, sis, I'm soo totally happy you convinced Marvy to go back home with us! I likes the beach an' all, but this dump doesn't even have a six floor department store." "I'm guessing that's a yes." Marvin smiles and stands up, holding Xerox in his arms, "Tomorrow morning, we're getting on the first ship that sails to Olivine City." -Marvin
