[I kinda forgot how Tetsuo's battle ended, but I kinda don't care either.]
"Okay, now it's my turn!" Yolei announced. She stood up to take her place in
the trainer's box, but then turned to Lynkeru and asked, "Are you going to be
okay?"
"Trust me, I've been hit with worse," Lynkeru replied. "I just wish the room
would stop spinning."
"All right," Yolei confirmed before heading out to the court. Standing opposite
her opponent, she said, "I'm pretty confident in my strategy, so let's have a
straight-up match, okay?"
"Sure," Morty accepted. "I think I'm through with the unusual stipulations for
the moment. Three on three, all right?"
"Fine with me."
"All right, then. Gastly, go!"
"Angel, go!"
A brief burst of sparkles appeared as Yolei's white Ghastly materialized.
"She's using the Pokemon she just caught?" Mamoru noted. "That's not too good
an idea. She hasn't even trained it yet."
"Gastly, Night Shade!" Morty commanded.
"Angel, Psychic!" Yolei commanded.
The Gastly's Night Shade smacked Angel in the face. Back in the Burned Tower
she would've fled by now, but Yolei had already gone ahead and convinced Angel
to fight for her. So Angel just took the hit and retaliated with a powerful
burst of Psychic energy. The opposing Gastly was knocked out in one hit.
"Gastly gast!" Angel exclaimed as her opponent was recalled.
"See?" Yolei said to her Pokemon. "Taking them down real quick is the best way
to defend yourself from them without torturing them with a drawn-out battle.
Plus, it keeps them from playing their nastly little tricks, too."
"I see your plan now," Morty said. "You want to take advantage of the Psychic
weakness of the Poison half of my Ghost Pokemon to knock them out real quick,
and I'm guessing that Angel here was the only one on your team that could learn
Psychic attacks. It's a good, if transparent, strategy, but it does have it's
weak points. Especially considering your team."
"What do you mean?" Yolei asked.
"I'll show you," Morty said as he tossed in another PokeBall. "Go, Misdreavus!"
Yolei remembered Misdreavus's Destiny Bond move. If Misdreavus used it before
Angel could knock it out, Angel would be knocked out as well. She was pretty
sure that her other Pokemon could handle Ghost types, but just the same she'd
rather keep Angel in play. They'll just have to be faster, that's all.
"Use Psychic before Misdreavus can attack!" Yolei called out.
"Misdreavus, Mean Look!" Morty commanded.
Angel immediately blasted Misdreavus with her Psychic attack and smacked
Misdreavus pretty hard. However, both trainer and Pokemon were stunned to see
that Misdreavus survived and was able to pull off Mean Look.
"This is what I meant," Morty said. "You were so busy trying to take advantage
of the Poison side of my Pokemon that you neglected to factor in the one Ghost
that wasn't part poison. Misdreavus may have been hit hard, but its in position
to take down your key Pokemon. That is unless your Angel is faster.
Misdreavus, Destiny Bond!"
"Hurry, Angel! Use Psychic!"
Angel's Psychic blast knocked the Misdreavus out in the next hit.
Unfortunately, it wasn't fast enough to prevent Angel from experiencing the same
fate.
"All right," Yolei said as she returned Angel to her PokeBall. She cursed at
herself for not switching out against Misdreavus before it got Mean Look in.
"So I may be down one Pokemon, but you're down two! That gives me the
advantage."
"If you say so, Yolei," Morty said. "But I'm confident in my Pokemon as well.
Go, Gengar!"
"Gengar!" the Gengar exclaimed as it appeared on the court.
"Tallyhawk, I choose you!" Yolei knew that the Pidgey might not have been the
best choice, but figured he might have a chance. Tallyhawk could use the
experience, and she could just pull him out if it got too hairy anyway. "Use
Sand-Attack!"
"Gengar, use Mean Look!"
"Man, I must be losing it today," Yolei said. Sure, Gengar's accuracy had
dropped, but now she couldn't remove Tallyhawk from battle. "Okay, Tallyhawk!
Razor Wind!"
Tallyhawk kicked up a major windstorm that threatened to slice Gengar to
ribbons.
"Gengar, Faint Attack."
The Gengar faded from view before the searing winds could hit. It reappeared a
moment later behind Tallyhawk and smacked him into the ground. Down but not
out, Tallyhawk took wing again and prepared to continue fighting.
"Tallyhawk, use Sand-Attack!"
"Gengar, Shadow Ball."
At the end of the round, Tallyhawk was on the ground and Gengar was rubbing sand
out of its eyes.
"Okay," Yolei said. She recalled Tallyhawk and reached for another PokeBall.
She meant to get out Mera, her Quilava, but she accidently bumped another
PokeBall off her belt. It bounced out onto the court and produced Boris, her
Ekans. "Oops."
"Ekans," Morty noted. "Interesting choice."
"That was kind of an accident," Yolei explained.
"Well, you're kind of stuck with him now," Morty said.
"Are you sure?" Yolei asked.
"Kind of," Morty joked.
Yolei was now more annoyed than anything else.
"Boris, Glare!" Yolei commanded.
"Gengar, Mean Look!"
Boris and the Gengar locked themselves into a staring contest. However, their
trainers weren't quit interested in one.
"Gengar, Shadow Ball!"
"Boris, Bite attack!"
Gengar charged up the engery around its hands but Boris locked his jaws around
the ghost's arm. Gengar freaked out and shook the Ekans off.
"Looks like your Gengar flinched," Yolei taunted. "Boris, Bite!"
"Gengar, Hypnosis!"
Gengar's eyes began to glow, then Boris clamped down right between them. Yet
again the Gengar panicked and ran around the court trying to pull its opponent
off.
"Flinched again," Yolei pointed out.
"Your luck won't hold up," Morty said. "Gengar, Faint Attack."
"Boris, Bite!"
Boris attempted to chomp down Gengar again, but the ghost Pokemon disappeared.
Reappearing, it grabbed Boris's tail and slammed him against the ground.
"Boris, Poison Sting!"
"Gengar, Hypnosis."
Boris spat out a storm of needles at his opponent, but Gengar dodged it.
Gengar's eyes glowed red, and Boris's eyelids grew heavy.
"Oh, no!" Yolei exclaimed. "Boris, wake up!"
"It's no use," Morty said. "Gengar, Shadow Ball."
Gengar charged up the energy for the attack, then threw a massive ball of black
energy at the Ekans. However, it missed when Boris fell on his face from being
put to sleep.
"All right, Boris!" Yolei cheered.
Morty growled slightly in annoyance. "Gengar, Faint Attack."
Gengar faded in and out again in an attempt to swipe at its opponent. It missed
as Boris began to toss and turn in his sleep.
"Gengar..." Morty started.
Gengar grabbed Boris and slammed him against the ground a few times before
tossing him down the court.
"Okay, let's finish him," Morty said. "Shadow Ball."
Gengar fired off another ball of energy. This time it missed when Boris awoke
and sat up. Then Boris began to glow. He became larger and grew a hood.
"ChAAAAAArrrbok!" Boris yawned.
"Boris evolved into Arbok!" Yolei exclaimed.
"Okay, this is beginning to really annoy me," Morty said. "Gengar, give him
everything you got!"
Gengar began to prepare another Shadow Ball attack but suddenly froze as full
paralysis set it.
"He's been caught in the paralyzing gaze of Boris's Glare," Yolei said. "Give
him another Bite, Boris!"
Boris clamped his jaws around his opponent yet again and slammed it against the
ground. The Gengar struggled to stand back up, but ultimately collapsed from
exhaustion.
"Well, it looks like you won after all," Morty said, tossing Yolei a badge.
"Here, you've won the Soulbadge."
"Yes!" Yolei cheered as she collected her badge. "Okay, Mamoru, now it's your
turn!"
