Brome thought he just might be ready for his match this time. After
talking with the Hitmontop named Cappie for a little while, he felt
that maybe a Magikarp COULD do something after all. He had to hope, it
was really all he could do.
After sitting through several...unique matches, Brome wasn't sure
whether the queasiness in his stomach was from the crowd or the sights
he had taken in. Either way, he strode out to his platform to face his
opponent.
"This tournament is winding down for the day, folks, but the matches
just keep throwing curveballs! What will we see next?" The announcer
asked as he performed his usual whipping-the-crowd-into-a-frenzy job.
If anything the crowd was even larger and more raucous than before...
Brome DEFINITELY felt a little queasy now, so he once more turned his
attention towards the opposing trainer.
He promptly sweatdropped, for this was his second opponent in a row
who didn't seem to notice him at all. Following Rudy's line of sight,
Brome noticed a redhead sitting in the stands, looking as if her arm
was about to fall off from all her waving. He recognized her as Misty,
one of the Sensational Sisters. Judging by the other trainer's smile,
Brome guessed that she was waving at Rudy.
Rudy finally stopped waving and appeared to focus. "Excuse me, but
I'll have to beat you today. I can't lose with a certain someone
watching, can I now?"
He threw out his Pokeball, saying, "Starmie, go!"
Brome reared back and let fly his own Pokeball. "Go Scale!"
Brome's Magikarp appeared, and it looked at least a little ready.
Scale splashed in place, awaiting a command.
The first command, however, went to Rudy. "Starmie, Minimize!"
Starmie appeared to shrink to about the size of one of Magikarps's
flippers, and Brome, startled, yelled out "Splash, Scale!" He
immediately slapped himself for his own stupidity, but Scale obeyed
anyway, sending little water droplets towards Starmie. They of course
did nothing, but Scale didn't appear to know that.
"Starmie, Swift!" Little stars flew out of the tiny Starmie, and Scale
took the full brunt of the attack. Soon she was floating sideways,
fainted.
"Scale, return!" Brome mumbled apologies to Scale's Pokeball as he put
it back in his pocket, then withdrew his other Pokeball. "Go
Remoraid!"
Rudy immediately took the offensive. "Bubblebeam!"
Remoraid dodged the Bubblebeam, but was unable to fire anything back
at the strangely small Pokemon.
"Remoraid, Surf!" Just as Remoraid gathered the waves about himself
and started towards Starmie, the star Pokemon's Minimize wore off, and
it returned to normal size. Now able to see the "enemy", Remoraid
directed the cresting wave towards his opponent.
Starmie was staggered by the water, but relatively unhurt. Remoraid
circled around behind, and the star turned to face him.
"Starmie, we're not going to lose! Use your Swift attack again!"
"Remoraid, dodge underneath it!"
Remoraid obeyed, and the attack passed harmlessly over the surface of
the water. Before Brome could get a chance to think about his good
luck with Remoraid's comprehension so far, however, Rudy's Starmie
began to try again and again to pin down Remoraid as he swam around
beneath the seastar.
"Remoraid, try using a Psybeam!" As soon as he said it, a white glow
began to show from beneath the water. Groaning, Brome recognized this
as his Remoraid being unable to hear him.
"Starmie, Rapid Spin!" Starmie began to spin on top of the water,
scattering mist in all directions. The Aurora Beam that Remoraid had
tried to fire deflected harmlessly off the rapidly revolving Pokemon
and harmlessly hit the ceiling.
"Now let's finish it! Starmie, dive underneath Remoraid and use your
Bubblebeam!" Starmie did as it was told, and soon Remoraid came
erupting out of the water with Starmie hot on it's fins.
"Quickly, Starmie, Swift attack!" The attack found it's mark this
time, and Remoraid was the one to splash back into the water -
unconscious.
"The win goes to Rudy! What you just saw was BOTH of Brome's Pokemon
being taken out by Rudy's powerful Starmie! What a lopsided match that
was!" came the voice of the announcer.
Brome recalled his Remoraid, and stared dejectedly at his Pokeball for
a moment before looking over to Rudy. Rudy again had directed his gaze
towards the stands, and was waving excitedly. Misty looked about ready
to fall out of her seat.
Brome sweatdropped. "If liking someone does THAT to your battling
skills, maybe I need a girlfriend." Deciding that he wasn't going to
get Rudy's attention long enough for a handshake, Brome walked off the
playing field.
Maybe he could talk with Cappie again about his Magikarp...Scale could
definitely use some more training.
