It zoomed up to the top floor and they stepped out onto the roof. There were so many people up there. Lisa hadn't thought that she might not be the only one who would come up here on the Bargain day. She approached one of the stalls with Trousle close behind. She glanced back at him casually. 'Wow. He's not half-bad looking. A little young maybe. Eh. He's probably more interested in Pokemon than girls right now, ' she thought to herself. She quickly looked back forward when she realized that she had been staring at him for a few seconds and had almost walked into the stall. Trousle stepped up next to her and they looked at the items for sale. Trousle had never seen so many ... whatever they were. And they were in so many colors. He looked at all of them and then realized how expensive they must be since they were imported from Hoenn. He looked over to Lisa who was making a selection and wondered which PokeBlocks she would be getting. 'She said that she wanted to enhance her Slugma's Beauty. I wonder which ones do that, ' Trousle thought to himself. He soon found out when she selected the Blue one. The clerk also handed her a purplish colored one as well and winked. Lisa blushed slightly and Trousle felt a pang of jealousy suddenly. 'Woah. Why am I getting jealous? I've only just met her!' he thought to himself. Lisa turned to Trousle and said, "OK, now let's go get some potions!" Trousle said, "Wait. Are you going to explain to me about PokeBlocks?" "Well, PokeBlocks can enhance your Pokemon's 'contest' stats. There are five: coolness, toughness, beauty, smartness and cuteness. Each one has a color assigned to it because of the type of berry that's used to make it. There are also some PokeBlocks which enhance more than one stat. This indigo one, for example, could enhance any two, likely Toughness and Coolness. Say, didn't you say you wanted to enter that Slugma into a Toughness contest? Well, here's your first PokeBlock!" Lisa handed the indigo PokeBlock to Trousle. He examined it for a moment before placing it in his backpack. "So, I just give that to Sharpie and it will raise his contest stat or stats, right?" "Yep! Now, let's go!" Trousle and Lisa entered the elevator and went down to the second floor. There were so many people that when the elevator opened, Trousle and Lisa couldn't even get out. They went down to the first floor and took the stairs back up to the second floor to see what was going on. The crowd was mostly congregated around a small boy. He was showing something and everyone was applauding and clapping for him. Trousle and Lisa got a little closer and could finally hear what he was saying. "I got this ribbon from Verdanturf in Hoenn! It's a Beauty ribbon that I won cause my Wobboffet was the most beautiful! And I was visiting here so I decided to stop in and what the contest. I won't be entering my Wobbiewob here, since I think that would probably be unfair to the other trainers who've never been in a contest before!" The little boy laughed. Trousle noted how annoying his laugh was and he took Lisa by the hand and led her back through the crowd of people. "Let's just come back tomorrow. I'm sure they won't be running out of Potions anytime soon, will they?" Trousle said. Lisa nodded her head in agreement and they walked back down the stairs. She walked a step slower than Trousle and he noticed that. He stopped walking and turned around. "What's up?" "Well, I was just thinking about what that boy said ... about most of the trainers entering this contest having never entered one before. And *I* haven't ever entered one before, but what if there are other people who *have* entered them before and have been working on their Pokemon and they enter their Pokemon in the contest here?" Her eyes started to swell up with tears. Trousle quickly said, "Oh, come on, Lisa. Of course there will be people who have been in other contests. Just like there are always people who have fought in Pokemon battles before you got to them, right? Well, these contests are just going to be another form of Pokemon battle, but instead of actually fighting, they get judged, or something. So, all we have to do is work on training your Slugma and my Slugma so they are ready." "Oh, Trouble Trousle! You know what? You're right! That boy was just being a braggert. Why, I bet that wasn't even his ribbon." Lisa and Trousle walked out into the streets of Goldenrod City. It was starting to get a little dark and Trousle was starting to get hungry, so he said goodnight to Lisa (who gave him a quick peck on the cheek, much to Trousle's surprise) and headed back to the Pokemon Center. Upon returning, he heard Chansey loudly from the back room, "Chansey Chansey!" Trousle ran to the back room to find out what was going on. He was somewhat relieved to find that Nurse Joy was there taking care of an injured ... something. "What kind of Pokemon is that?" he asked. "This is a Lombre. It's a Grass-type Pokemon that was discovered in the Hoenn region. They are actually pretty good Pokemon when they want to be, " she directed the last part of that sentence at the Lombre with a stern look. The Lombre sat on the table silently. "So, did you get any potions?" "Well, there was a crowd of people on the second floor and I couldn't get to the stall, but I got an Iron! I'm going to give it to Whoop tomorrow. I also got an Indigo PokeBlock which I am going to give to Sharpie for the Contest." "Wait, you got an Iron? How did you manage to afford one of those?" "Well, I met this girl whose father was running the counter and he gave me a discount, " Trousle said. "Oh. Well, that's nice! So, you made a new friend?" Nurse Joy smiled and continued working on the Lombre. "Well, yeah, I think so. We're going to meet back at the department store tomorrow so we can buy some potions and she was going to show me all the other stuff that would be useful to a Pokemon trainer, " Trousle said. He went to the cafeteria and got some food. He ate his food in silence and then went back to his room. TBC ... ========================== Meanwhile, Lisa had gone back to her house just outside of Goldenrod City. Her father was already home and was cooking supper. He glanced up as she walked in and sat down at the table. He could tell that something was bothering her. "What's wrong, hun? Something bothering you?" "Oh, dad ... I don't know if I can go through with this whole contest thing now. I just keep thinking that I might not be good enough to do it!" "Lisa. Listen to yourself. You know who you sound like? You sound like Lisa Yintil, age 12 when she got her first Pokemon. And look at where you are now. You'll do great!" Lisa smiled and hugged her dad tightly and said, "Thanks, Dad! Oh, and if you happen to see that boy again tomorrow, let him know that I'll be looking for him on the roof, ok?' "Boy? Oh, the boy from the Department Store, earlier? ... Um, wasn't he kind of young?" he winked slyly at her and gave her a goofy grin. "Huh? Ugh, Dad! Be serious! I'm not interested in him!" she said, but she thought to herself, 'Of course, he is sorta cute...' She giggled and said, "Well, goodnight, Dad. I'm not really hungry and I need to get some sleep. I have a big day tomorrow since I am going to go to the Day Care and pick up my Tauroseseses ... Hmm ... is the plural of Tauros ... Tauri?" she asked with a grin back at her dad and a knowing wink, before walking back into her room and climbing into bed. TBC also ...
