He was in a stadium. A stadium with people. A stadium with people he didn't know. Did they have food? "<Taste my wrath, brute!>" the small Natu pecking at his foot yelled telepathically. "<Does thou not cower in my presence?>" "Dooon?" Rhydon kicked him away as if he were a small pebble in his way. For all purposes, he may as well have been one. Rhydon scratched his head and looked around. Where was Trent? He had to be there somewhere. Or at least the Sandslash. "Rhydon, Rockslide!" the Eskimo woman screamed. Who was this? Why was she giving him an order? "Rrrrrr....?" "...Uh... Horn Drill? Submission! Earthquake?!" Rhydon scratched his side and sat down on the wet grass and yawned. "Body Slam? Growl? Leer?! TAIL WHIP?!" "Karen seems to be having trouble with her Rhydon," the announcer said. "This may be Tsunade's chance!" "Knockoff!" Nori commanded. Set stopped to consider it, then flew at Rhydon. "Oh my!" the announcer screamed. "It seems Rhydon is trying to EAT Tsunade's Natu? Is this legal?!" Set had flown right into Rhydon's yawning mouth. Realizing that there was something there, Rhydon grabbed it and looked at Set. "<UNHAND ME! PREPARE THINESELF FOR THE THRASHING OF A LIFETIME!>" Rhydon smiled and petted Set, then set him down on the grass. "This isn't work... Rhydon, return!" Carol's beam missed. Rhydon shrugged and left the field. "Okay, this shouldn't be a problem for Ariados. Take him down!" Ariados and Set stared each other down, each waiting for the other to strike first. "A battle of wills, Ariados and Natu are each yielding, preparing themselves to counter the other's first mo- What in God's name is this?!" Suddenly and completely unexpectedly, Rhydon rushed onto the field and began to mercilessly pummel the surprised Ariados. "Karen's Rhydon has disobeyed orders and is attacking her Ariados!" "Ooooh," Carol whined. "Maybe stealing it wasn't such a good idea..." Rhydon screamed and bashed Ariados every way he could; with his fists, with his feet, with his horn, with his tail, even with his back. After several minutes, during which both Nori and Carol were too surprised and distracted to give orders, Rhydon stopped and reared back, pounding his chest and roaring. Ariados twitched, but did little else. "Uh... er... what just happened here?" the announcer asked. "It was Karen's own Pokémon who attacked Ariados... who won this?" The referee, likewise confused, took a moment to look at the field. Set the Natu was pecking at Ariados while Rhydon continued his victory roar. "Uh... Ariados is unable to battle... Natu is the winner!" Hearing this, Set jumped onto the defeated Ariados and soaked up the applause as if he had truly earned the victory... had there been applause. The audience still wasn't sure what to make of the situation, so all they gave the Natu were some murmurs. "Interesting," Rubix the Blastoise said to Nori. "Victory through sheer luck." "Luck had nothing to do with it," Nori replied. "I think." "What a match this has turned out to be, folks! Tsunade has two Pokémon remaining against Karen's uncontrollable but brutal Rhydon! Karen could still win this!" The crowd cheered for Karen. Carol was more than a little nervous about the potential outcome of the battle as she put her Ariados back, but nonetheless waved to the crowd, appearing confident of her own abilities as a trainer. "And... uh..." Rhydon wandered off the field. He scratched one of the stadium walls, sniffed around, then found the exit and disappeared. "Uh... it appears Rhydon has left the field..." The crowd was silent again. "...Awaiting a decision here..." The referee shrugged. "This is taking too long," Nori complained. Finally, the red flag was raised. "Natu has no opponent! Natu is the winner!" Some people in the stands cheered, but everyone was still not sure what to make of the battle. "And... well. That was ANTI-CLIMACTIC!" the announcer yelled as if that were a good thing. "With two of Karen's fighters down and one of them seemingly forfeiting the match, Tsunade moves on to round two!" Carol sighed and left. Inside the waiting room, Rhydon was eating a hamburger someone had left behind. Carol pulled off her hood and took off her mask, then threw off the rest of her disguise. "Right. No prize for me, I guess... Rhydon, return." Rhydon was returned to the Pokéball and she put it on her belt, then walked out casually. There were reporters and camera crews waiting to see their hero Karen, but they were surprised to find Carol instead. "Er...?" "I'm Karen's niece! She's inside!" The reporters all tried to crowd into the entrance to the waiting room, but there were too many and they were all stuck. Carol took the opportunity to make her grand escape. Jose L.
