From: Newton P. Haights (newhaights@aol.com) Subject: [PW!] Ghastlybusters Redux: or, F***ING ENOUGH ALREADY Newsgroups: alt.games.nintendo.pokemon Date: 2003-11-29 03:03:51 PST When last we left our heroes Andrew and Eran, they were caught in the mysterious ghost house of Mahogany Town, with no idea how they got in and less of an idea on how to get out. Who was responsible? What were the motives? And what was with that urn? And more importantly... Does anyone care? Andrew O'Reilly and Eran of the unknown surname in [PW!] Ghastlybusters: Redux by Newton P. Haights Hey, I can steal this header from Jose! <<So, how long has it been?>> <<About...uhm...I lost count.>> <<Are they at least off the statue?>> <<I think so...>> <<They haven't seen the button puzzle in the -->> <<No.>> <<Or the secret exit in the --> <<Nope.>> <<Damn, they really don't want out, do they?>> <<Nah, I think someone's just lazy. Happens a lot, I think.>> <<Oh, hey, you hear about that conference over at Silver?>> <<...yeah...I think I did. Hey, you thinking what I'm thinking?>> <<...uh, yeah, I just mentioned it.>> <<...>> <<Dumbass.>> <<...if we weren't both intangible pokemon I'd Tackle you so hard...>> *** Elsewhere in the Mansion... Andrew and Eran walked down a hall. The hall wasn't anything interesting...or at least, it was nothing that anyone too lazy would care to remember and write about or anything. There was one door labeled "botan no heya", but luckily Eran's education and Andrew's obscure maternal Japanese lineage were (conveniently) of no help. Whoops. There was also a floor switch about 5 yards down the hall, connected to a few old sticks of dynamite, but nobody noticed that either. *** Near the Mahogany Pokemon Center... *BOOM* The explosion rattled the windows of the Center. Nurse Joy looked up from the transport machine. "Oh dear, what was that?" muttered Joy. "I hope nobody was hurt... Chansey, you'd better get the stretcher, just in case." *** Back in the secret room... <<Looks like Team Lazy is blasting off again...heh.>> <<...>> <<WHAT?!>> <<"Again?">> <<Oh, shut up.>> <<But they haven't blasted off yet? They've fallen a few times, but they haven't -->> <<SHUT UP!>> *** In the upper stratosphere, somewhere over Route 45... "GFFM, FFM M PMMPM M MM FMM" "WHAT?" "FFRM M PMPRM MM MM FSMM!" "WHAT?" Andrew yanked off the offending paper that was blinding him. "I SAID THERE'S A PAPER ON MY FACE!" "WHY DIDN'T YOU JUST SAY SO?" "I DID!" "JEEZ, WE'VE BEEN UP HERE FOR A WHILE!" "I WONDER IF THIS IS HOW TEAM ROCKET FEELS?!" "HEY, WHAT'S THE PAPER SAY?" "LET'S SEE...IT'S TALKING ABOUT SOME TOURNAMENT IN MOUNT SILVER!" "ISN'T THAT MOUNT SILVER WE'RE HEADING TOWARD RIGHT NOW?" "I THINK SO!" "WHY ARE WE YELLING?!" "BECAUSE IT'S WINDY UP HERE!" "WHY ARE WE STILL IN THE AIR?!" "BECAUSE HAIGHTS IS A LAZY FUCKING BASTARD!" ...hey, now, that's not cool. "SORRY." *** In Silver Town... > Great idea, Alex! You led me to Silver Town, now I'll lead you to the > Cafeteria." Robert sniffs the air and immediately recognizes the smell > of grilled meat wafting into the lobby from the east. He dramatically > points eastward and declares, "Onward to the Cafeteria!" As Robert and > Alex walk to the Cafeteria, Robert continues to rave about his > Pokepedia, "It also has an advanced Map feature that uses a global > positioning system, but it also only works in Kanto since we're out of > the satellite's rage in Johto. It's like the Map feature your Pokenav > has, but it can zoom in so close you can see yourself!" > Much to the annoyance of Surtur the Combusken and Shadow Warrior the > Murkrow, Robert keeps talking about his Pokepedia's many features, as > well as its history and how he came to possess it, well into the night. ...or he would, but that would have to wait until later, because -- "....wwwwwwhhhhaAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!" "...and this shows the -- huh?" Robert looked up at the increasingly loud scream, only to be flattened by a flying trainer. "Ow...my head --" And a second. "I didn't hear anything in the weather about it raining trainers. ...heh, raining trainers." Andrew shook his head in an attempt to get his bearings back after that long, long flight. "Oof. Remind me never to book a flight out of Mahogany. I'm gonna be sore for a while." Realizing that he wasn't as sore as he should have been, mainly because a body broke his fall, he looked around for the human cushion. Finding Robert rubbing his own back in pain, he ran over to apologize. "Oh, jeez, I'm so sorry, sir. I didn't meen to fall on you. I just, well...something happened..." Andrew pointed from whence he came. "...over in Mahogany, I'm still not entirely sure what, something with Rockets and doublecrossing and I got an Abra and there were ghosts and a big statue and terminal velocity and...I dunno." "Did you say Mahogany Town? I was just training there! I just beat Pryce!" Robert mumbled under his breath, "...afterabouttwotries..." "What was that?" "Er, nothing." "Oh, wait, we haven't introduced each other." Andrew motioned for Eran to come over, which she did after she dusted herself off. "I'm Andrew O'Reilly, from Pallet. This is Eran...I just met her in Mahogany, and I guess we're together for now, since we haven't had much of a chance to split. Or something...that sounded wrong. Forget I said anything." "Nice to meet you...Andrew, Eran." Robert shakes their hands in turn. "My name is Robert, and I'm from Lavender Town. I and my girlfriend Rilli run the Diversity Gym there -- she's a Pokemon Breeder, and," Robert beams with pride, "I'm the Gym Leader. This is Alexandria Masters, and she's from Lilycove." "A pleasure." Handshakes were exchanged, after which Andrew inquired, "Lavender? You don't say. I visit the Tower every year to pay my respects. In fact, I think I'm overdue." "The tower...? Oh, you mean the -- OH. Yeah...I think you're very overdue for that one," Robert said awkwardly. "Why? ...What do you mean?" "You didn't hear?!" "...no..." "They changed the Pokemon Tower into a radio tower! They disinterred all the bodies!" "Oh my..." Andrew was shocked, to say the least. "Oh...my god. You can't be...oh my god." "You had an old pokemon buried in there?" "No...my grandfather was buried there with his team." "Your what? ...oh, you mean -- whoah, your grandfather was James O'Reilly?!" "How did you know?" "Well, to put it bluntly, Mr. O'Reilly is somewhat famous, since he's the first human to be buried there. Oh, and don't worry. All the bodies were carefully and respectfully moved to a Soul House south of the Tower." "Oh, they were? Hrrm... at least they're still okay..." There was an awkward silence; disinterrment isn't a light subject, after all. Robert was the first to speak up. "Andrew O'Reilly...that name sounds familiar. Have I ever met you anywhere?" Andrew shrugged. "I dunno. You do look familiar, though...and Rilli...that name seems to ring a bell." *** Flashback... > "I know the feeling..." Rilli muttered absent-mindedly. > > Suddenly, Tup poped in out of nowhere. "Hey, you're Andrew, right?" > > "Yeah." Andrew got up. > > "There's two people here to see you. They claim to be your > parents." > > "Hey, mom and dad are here!" Andrew began to head for the > enterance, Yugi and Blaze right behind him. Snicker, who was tired from > carrying around David, just waved as his trainer left to greet his > parents. > > "Wait up! We'll join you! Come on, Monk-chan, Gnawer!" Monk-chan > lept upon Gads's head, and started after Andrew. Gnawer, after > finishing it's cheesecake, started running to catch up. *** Robert's eyes start to light up in realization. "...were you ever involved in a big fight in Saffron about, uhm, 3...5...some odd years ago?" "You mean the wedding of Mr. and Mrs. Trisan? I was traveling with their children at the time!" "You mean the blue-haired girl and the Mankey hybrid from the Fighting Dojo?" "The same." "Wow...small world, isn't it? We met at that wedding! Granted, we were a little out of our right minds at the time..." "What do you mean?" Andrew flashed back again... *** >"But how can I be sure you won't take off my bra?!" Robert asks rather >loudly! *** "Oh, THAT...Long story short...Sabrina --" "Say no more." Alex and Eran stood by, waiting for this conversation to turn somewhere they were more familiar with. "Either of you care to explain to *us*?" piped up Eran. "Oh, sorry," said Andrew, sheepishly. "Basically, the Fighting Dojo and the Marshbadge Psychic Gym in Saffron were at war; two high-ranking members of the Dojo were getting married; the son of the groom was on a nanite-and-intolerance-fueled (OOC: and plot-hole driven) rage, and Robert here and his girlfriend had fallen victim to one of Sabrina's cruel little tricks." "Uh...huh." "So, now that you're here in Silver Town..." Robert changed the subject. "Are you thinking of joining the Silver Championship?" "Well, I wasn't planning on it...but since fate seems to have dropped me off here...I might as well stay for a while. I'm in. How about you, Eran?" "Eh, I dunno...I'm kinda rusty. I'll stay and watch though." "Ok then. Where do I register?" Robert pointed to a booth about 20 feet away, within which stood the local Nurse Joy. "Ok then." Andrew took his Pokedex out of his pocket to register. "Welcome to Silver Town! I hope you enjoy the competition while you're here. If I can have your Pokemon Trainer's License, preferably in electronic form, I can register you to battle." "Here you go." Andrew handed Joy the Pokedex. "Hrrm, an older model Pokedex. I haven't seen these too often...ok, here we go. Andrew James O'Reilly, trainer number 46156...3 badges...Everything seems to be in order. Enjoy your stay in Silver Town." "Thank you, ma'am." Andrew walked back over to Robert, Eran and Alex. "That was easy. Easier than registering for the Indigo tournament." Andrew groans dejectedly. "I hope it's easier to win too. I'm surprised I didn't even choose my arena yet." After another awkward pause, Robert piped up. "So, like I was saying, when RK told me he was leaving researching, I was shocked, to say the least. But then he told me he had something to give me, so..." TBC? (OOC: There. Finally. Fucking. Finished. Andrew and Eran are out of Mahogany. CURSE YOU, MAHOGANY! >:o If the storyline was supposed to end with Dread, then Dread (the author) will just have to find another plot hole to get them back there. *shudder*) -- Newton P.
