From: Rob (robfrompw@yahoo.com) Subject: [PW!] [SC] [FINAL] Smasher vs. Robert! An Extreme Finale! Newsgroups: alt.games.nintendo.pokemon Date: 2003-12-24 18:03:25 PST "Welcome to the Final Round of this year's Silver Conference!" Hundreds of people sitting in Silver Town's Silver Stadium cheer loudly as the announcer speaks to them. "Today's match will pit the Red Trainer, Smasher of Lavender Town, against his own town's Gym Leader, Green Trainer Robert of the Diversity Gym! Based on what we've seen both of these Trainers do in their past matches, today's match promises to be an exciting one! Both trainers have made some changes to their teams, but I won't say what they are so as to not ruin the surprise! Trainers, approach the field!" Smasher rides his skateboard onto the field, an angry look plastered on his face. His angry look turns into a sad one as he skates towards where he's supposed to stand in the Arena. He frowns when he recalls what happened to Shuriken just yesterday in this very Stadium. By the time he's reached his place on the field, the crowd's cheering has cheered him up somewhat, so he smiles and waves at the audience. He glances down at one of the Pokeballs on his belt and whispers, "I may not call on you until late into the match - think you can stay in Pokeball form until then, Echo?" When the Pokeball subtly nods, Smasher looks up again, slams a fist into an open hand, and says, "It's time to get extreme!" Robert walks out onto the field next, his moods not swinging radically like his opponent's. The mood the Diversity Gym Leader seems to express is confidence, but inwardly he's worried that he might lose to Smasher. He takes his place across from Smasher and notices that his opponent looks angry right now - much angrier than Aerie looked during his match with her. This intimidates Robert somewhat, but figures an opponent who's being emotional should be easier to defeat than one who's relying purely on logic. "And now the field selector will determine on which field they will battle!" The people in the audience watch as the four icons on the Stadium's giant scoreboard randomly light up. After a few seconds, the Water symbol remains lit. "ANOTHER Water Field?!" Robert's eyes bulge as the Water Field starts emerging from underneath the Stadium, "What're the odds of THAT?" "One in four." Smasher calls out from across the field, "They're independent trials, so the probability doesn't stack from match to match." "Oh..." Robert sighs, wondering if sending his Seadra to Rilli last night after dinner was such a good idea. "The Green Trainer will select first!" The announcer calls out, bringing Robert's attention to the scoreboard where a green line is highlighted on the electronic green and red roulette wheel located there. "Today's referee will be..." People in the crowd imagine all the fantastic mythical creatures or automata from outer space that might be officiating this final match, "...Eric Jenson!" Many people in the crowd boo, disappointed since they had raised their expectations so high. Eric Jenson, a generic referee wearing a generic black-and-white referee outfit takes the field and declares, "The Final Round of the Silver Conference will pit Red Trainer Smasher against Green Trainer Robert. The match will be a 6-on-6 Pokemon battle on a Water Field with no time limit. Green Trainer Robert will select which Pokemon to send out first. Let the battle begin! When the Water Field is locked into place, Robert tells himself, "Well, I might as well start out with my Slowbro. He's the only Pokemon on my team who has the field advantage." He pulls Slowbro's Pokeball off the first slot on his belt, aims it at the pool, and pushes the button on it. A red beam shoots into the water. Seconds later, a large Slowbro with a vacant look in his eyes floats up to the surface of the Water Field. "Ahhh, Slowbro... slow!" Robert's Slowbro lounges in the pool as he awaits his opponent. Robert waits for Smasher to send a Pokemon out, planning to keep Slowbro on the field regardless of Smasher's choice since he's confident his Slowbro can use his field advantage to overcome any type disadvantages he might face. -Robert
