[NS: The following was written with Weaver's permission.]
By the time Dee and Alex return, the searchers were all gathered around
the crater. Aerie had already returned to her normal form, and was
trying to sit down, but Amber's vise-like grip on her shoulders kept her
in the air. "What? WHAT DID YOU FIND?"
Aerie studied the ground, answering softly, "...pieces. Bits of his
equipment." She closed her eyes. "There is no body to find."
"You mean...?"
"I killed him."
The silence did not last long. It was difficult to tell, at first,
where the deep, gutteral growl was coming from, until it got a bit
louder. When Amber's mouth opened again, it almost felt like she was
uttering an Ice Beam. "Die."
Had they been alone, Amber's rage might well have accomodated her
desires. As it was, she only got five punches in before Kitsu stuck
her sword between them. "Back awOOF!" A vicious elbow to the gut
sent Kitsu flying away, although Amber snatched up the sword and
began seriously tearing into Aerie. Fortunately, all the nicks and
cuts healed as soon as the blade left Aerie's flesh, until Amber felt
herself immobilized in a chunk of ice.
"Stop," Doppler commanded, his voice just as cold as Amber's had been.
That might have been the end of it until the Officer Jennies showed up,
except that a couple moments later, Aerie and Amber teleported to the
middle of the arena, sans ice.
Dee blinked. "Aerie? Wh-"
For better or for worse, the camera crew was quick to react. Several
views of Aerie, prone on the ground beneath the embodiment of vengeance
that was Amber, popped up on the various scoreboard displays. And
several microphones echoed and amplified her whimpered plea, "Chop my
head off and throw it in the water. Quickly. Please...kill me."
Amber raised her hand to give Aerie what she wanted, then hesitated.
Her quivering arm started to descend, then stopped a couple centimeters
later. Once, twice...and then it dropped the blade altogether. Amber
curled into a fetal position much as Aerie had earlier, crying,
"Aaaadam...nooo..."
That was when the others dogpiled Amber, and the camera crews finally
heard their manager's order to stop filming for Mew's sake.
TBC?
[NS: There's more to it, but why don't we leave it there for the
moment?]
