Back at the Pokemon Center, or more accurately a bit off to the side of it, Cass, Keaton, Derek and pokemon were mulling over their findings at the Magma Base "If it helps," ... *punck dodge* ... "Nobody passed either me or Chan so that rules out people coming out the same way as us coming in," Derek observed while sparring with invisible opponents. "And we were distracted by that lava," Cass admitted. "I guess ... " Keaton admitted. Memories of the base invasion were replaying themselves. Something else was off, something small. It was nagging at Cass a lot more. Derek too was thinking about his end of the operation, wonderingg what that "off" feeling was he had felt earlier. His more aggresive workout had given way to one more meditative. Currently, he was sitting back-to-back with Chan, human and pokemon seemingly mirroring each other in their trance-like state. "The alarms!" "Alarms?" "Yeah, I don't remember hearing any loud and obnoxious alarms going off!" "But what does it mean?" There was a silent pause. Strangely, or not so strangely enough, it was Derek that answered, though he didn't bother looking. "Perhaps we were expected, and they planned for it. It may also explain the off feeling I had as we were leaving." It was about now that Aerie and Kitsu came back, a bit more refreshed, a lot happier and almost dried off totally. "What's this about planning for us?" Kitsu asked. "What's this about that base not being gone?" Aerie asked. Something seemed to click into Cass' head. "They knew we were coming so they planned out a defense system to keep us out without destroying their whole base and keeping us from what we wanted to get! Genius!" Now that it was all explained, everything fell into place for Keaton. "Does this mean there's more of them in there." "Probably," Derek replied, again not bothering to move or outwardly acknowledge the world "Does this mean we can go back and create more trouble for them?" "Probably" "That mean I could kick your ass in a fight?" "Doubt it" Mild snickering resulted, followed by evil grins. Elsewhere in the partially destroyed Mountain Base, Lars got a cold chill, despite his office being set at a tropical 80 degrees Farenheit.
