"So, I guess that means it's your turn huh?" Roxanne asked, palming
another pokeball.
John shook his head, as if snapping out of a trance. "Huh? Sorry, what
did you say?"
"I said you're the last one, are you going to challenge me for a Stone
badge or aren't ya?"
"Oh uh, yeah, I guess I am. One on one sound okay?"
Roxanne shrugged. "It's worked fine so far."
"This will be a one on one battle between Gym Leader Roxanne and
uh..." The referee turned to look at John.
"John, of the Cianwood Gym."
"Right. Winner will recieve the Stone badge, there will be no time
limit. Begin!"
"Cianwood huh?" Roxanne muttered, as she threw her pokeball onto the
mat. "Wish I'd saved one of my psychics. Oh well, My Rhyhorn will have
to do." With a flash of white light, the scaly, rock covered
rhinoceros pokemon appeared, pawing at the floor of the gym.
"Too bad for you, I guess. Tidal, it's go time!" Tidal the Poliwhirl
appeared on the gym floor, snorting and swinging it's large hands
wildly.
"Rhyhorn, use Take Down attack!" Roxanne called, immediatly Rhyhorn
broke into a mad charge towards Tidal.
"Tidal, drive it back with Bubble!" A barrage of water spheres came
shooting out of the Poliwhirls swirl and hit the rock type dead on,
the pain of the clashing element stopped the Rhyhorn dead in it's
tracks.
"Okay, let's try Rock Throw!" Roxanne called. Immediately, Rhyhorn dug
it's long horn into the ground and dislodged a large boulder, which it
sent hurling at Tidal.
"Dodge it!" John called, but his pokemon was too slow. The large
boulder hit him between the eyes, stunning him for a moment.
"Take Down now!" Taking advantage of the momentary lapse in
concentration, The Rhyhorn barreled towards the frog pokemon. with a
sound like a freight train hitting a small dog, the two pokemon
collided and Tidal was sent tumbling into the wall.
"Get up Tidal!" John called, Tidal with a few grunts that sounded
suspiciously like swearing, clambered back to it's feet and shot a jet
stream of water at the rocky pokemon.
Rgyhorn gave a cry of pain as the H2O struck him dead on, sending him
sprawling to the ground.
"That's it Tidal! Don't let him get to his feet!" Under the constant
barrage of water, it didn't take long for the Rhyhorn's energy to run
out.
"Rhyhorn is unable to battle, the Match goes to John."
Roxanne recalled her pokemon and stepped across the floor to John,
holding out a brand new Stone badge. "Well, I guess this belongs to
you, then." Roxanne smiled as she pressed the badge into John's hand.
"Uh thanks." He turned to his pokemon. "Way to go Tidal! You did it."
By way of response, Tidal began to visciously doubleslap John. It was
a full two minutes before John was able to push the irate Poliwhirl
off of him and recall him back into his monster ball.
"Right, I think I'd better go heal him at the pokemon center." John
muttered sheepishly, then quickly left the gym.
