"Pokémon evolve due to DNA! It stands for Dem's Nice Apples, and refers to the way one's genetics interact with the mind." "Isn't he so clever?" giggled his assistant. "My name's not Timmy," said the boy. "And I don't think I even ASKED why Pokémon evolve." Professor Pseudowood, unphased, threw off his white lab coat, bald cap and false moustache in one swoop. "We're here at last!" chanted the short, red-haired man who appeared underneath. His assistant shook her head and rubbed her temples. "For the LAST TIME, Diego, we're NOT doing the motto any more! We're NOT! Get it?" The boy the pair had been badgering wandered off. The assistant removed a wig and used a damp cloth to wipe her face of make-up. The face of Lauren, the second half of the notorious Team Rocket smuggling pair, was revealed. "You fool, Diego. Now we'll never manage to-" "CONVENIENT INTERRUPTION!" shouted someone nearby. Lauren and Diego turned around to see a girl of about fifteen on rollerblades skate up to them. "What are you talking about?" asked Lauren. The girl gave her a look and laughed derisively. "Don't tell me you haven't heard about Convenient Interruption!" "I have!" said Diego, who hadn't, but wanted to seem hip. "I haven't," said Lauren coldly. "It's only the coolest thing in the entire world ever ever ever!" squealed the excitable teenager. "Convenient Interruption makes my world go round." Lauren was growing tired of this obsessively fashionable girl. Then again, Lauren had always been against anything mainstream if it caused people to act like idiots. Suddenly, a thought struck her. "Hey, do you like Minun?" "That cute li'l yellow mouse? Sure! I love that li'l guy!" Lauren grinned sneakily and looked sidewise at Diego. She hoped he'd do the same thing, thus creating a feeling of a mutual understanding, but he was making a note to check up Convenient Interruption on the internet. "We happen to have a Minun," said Lauren. "And we're selling it cheap. A mere fifteen hundred, and it's yours!" "Wowee!" exclaimed the girl. "If only I hadn't spent my pocket money on a Convenient Interruption T-shirt, I'd be buying it right now!" "Tell you what," said Lauren. "I'll give you my phone number, and you can contact me when you get the money together." Lauren released Sparkler, the Minun she'd obtained from a gullible trainer in Mauville. Sparkler looked around nervously, searching for the girl who'd caught her. "Sweet!" exclaimed the rollerblading girl. "I'll be sure to look you up." She exchanged phone numbers with Lauren, who learned that the girl's name was Irene. Irene skated off, and Lauren prepared to recall Sparkler. However, as though their lives were determined by some higher being who wanted them to be constantly interacting with random people, someone else showed up. PokéWars!: Lauren and Diego "Brigette: The Best A Man Can Get" Steffan Alun "Hello!" greeted a tall girl with long red hair. She was carrying a sack in one hand and a clipboard in the other. "I saw that Minun you released earlier, and you seem like an incredible trainer." "I'm not," said Lauren, brutally honest as opposed to modest. "Now leave me alone." "I am! I am!" shouted Diego. He released a Geodude, his favourite Pokémon in the world. "This is Density! She's lovely!" "She sure is!" said the bright-eyed girl. "My name's Brigette, by the way. What's yours?" "Cameron," replied Diego. "This is my sister Sinead." "I've been looking for some good trainers, you see," said Brigette. "My sister Lanette created the PC system that stores Pokémon as computer data. I've been working on this system to make it better, and for a reason that I assure you is entirely related, I need to give you an egg." Lauren raised an eyebrow. Diego looked overjoyed. "An egg! Excellent!" "Yes, excellent!" said Lauren, faking a bit of enthusiasm. After all, the egg may contain a rare Pokémon. No use in wasting an opportunity. Brigette removed a light blue egg from the sack in her hand. She handed it over to Diego. "I will keep it warm until it hatches and then I will love its contents like my own child." He considered this. "One of my children," he ammended, to avoid offending Density. Brigette noted something down on her clipboard. "Excellent!" she said. "I'm sure you'll take super-special good care of that Pokémon. See you around, guys!" She walked south, clearly headed for Mauville. Lauren considered warning her not to go into the gym without very dark glasses, but thought better of it. "Hatch that as quickly as you can, Diego," she said instead. "We need to start selling." Diego barely heard her words. He stroked the egg's shell affectionately, then gently pocketed it. -- Steffan Alun http://iceduck.pkmn.co.uk/ - my site http://www.pkmn.co.uk/ - want Pokeyman? http://iceduck.pkmn.co.uk/mcw/ - Milk Cap Wars!
