She watched and listened as Sarah Jane carried on a conversation with her Nidoking as if she was talking to a human. Spunky responded, and Sarah Jane seemed to understand everything. She seemed to be instructing Spunky in making bottles for the Eevees. When it came to feeding, however, he was still a bit unweildly. "Here," said Sarah Jane, passing a baby bottle and the gray Eevee to Candi. "But I've never..." "Just hold Shadow and give him the bottle. Watch me." Sarah Jane scooped up Lilac and showed Candi how to hold both Eevee and bottle. Lilac sucked hungriliy at the formula. Candi was about to protest when Shadow looked up at her. With a sigh she settled him into her lap, then offered the bottle to him. He readily accepted. "Nidoni do nido," muttered Spunky dejectedly. "You have to be very careful if you're going to try to feed them," returned Sarah Jane. "Do nido ni." He held out his paws. Sarah Jane gave him a concerned look, then carefully passed him Lilac and her bottle. She watched for a moment to make sure he was holding his daughter carefully. Candi had hoped that Sarah Jane would take Shadow, but instead she opened her backpack and began taking out some packaged sandwiches, drink and PokeChow. Shadow finished his bottle and began to fuss. "Umm... what now?" "Burp him." "Excuse me?" "Burp him. Just like you'd burp a human baby. He probably drank too fast." --- A few minutes later, the Eevees were playing on the grass under the watchful eye of their father. Sarah Jane had released her other Pokemon, who were all eating from dishes of PokeChow that she had set out. Candi picked up one of the sandwiches. "How do you do it?" she asked. Sarah Jane took a bite of her own sandwich. "I guess it's some sort of gift to be able to understand the pokemon. It's partially psychic... partially just a connection that I have." She took another bite. "It's not something that can really be explained." "If it's psychic, then I'll never get it." "You don't have to be psychic to understand your pokemon. You may never be able to understand them word for word, but you can generally understand their meanings and their feelings. The thing is that you need to get to know them. Not what you did before.
