From: "Rob" <robfrompw@yahoo.com> Subject: [PW!] Message In A Mawile Date: Sunday, January 04, 2004 8:10 AM For many Mawile who grew up in Granite Cave's Mawile Village and already disliked the female Mawile who was born with a ridiculously large maw, the fact that she brought a human outsider into their humble hidden village was the last straw. Over the past few days, the female Mawile has been getting even more angry looks from the villagers than she's used to and she finds that some Mawile who used to support her no longer do. Still, she thinks bringing the human here to protect him from the rag-wearing villains after him was the right thing to do, so she ignores the complaints her fellow Mawile voice. Today, Marvin the middle-aged man is sitting by the pond in the center of the Mawile Village, next to the Mawile who saved him. The Mawile's oversized jaw is dunked in the water as she drinks water, while Marvin uses his cupped hands to bring the crystal clear water to his lips. "Wow, I've been drinking this stuff for days, but I simply can't get over how surprisingly pure and refreshing this water is! Someone should come down here and bottle it so that more people can... enjoy... the amazing... water..." Marvin stops when he sees five Mawile glaring at him, "BUT I know they can't, since humans aren't usually welcome here!" The five Mawile continue to stare at him, angry looks on their faces. They had been going about their daily business moments ago, but they stopped in their tracks when they overheard the human's speech. "Heh, heh..." Marvin chuckles out of nervousness, "Nothing to see here, folks! Just a human drinking water with his good Mawile friend!" When they hear Marvin use the f-word to describe his relationship with the female Mawile, the glares of the five Mawile turn to the one who brought him here. Marvin's friend pulls her huge jaw out of the lake, lets it drop to the ground, and speaks through it, "Maw Mawile maw mawile maw! Maw mawile maw maw, maw mawile maw Mawile!" Not wanting the Mawile to tell their leader about their behavior, the pack of Mawile return to their daily business. "Ha, you showed them who's boss!" Marvin pats his friend on the back, "I have no idea HOW you did that, but good show, Mawile! Good show!" "Mawile, mawile!" The Mawile smiles and bows her small yellow body, her heavy steel maw resting on the ground as she does so. "You sure know how to get your points across! First, you convinced your leader to let me stay here, and ever since I came here, you've been keeping the other Mawile from attacking me. If only there were some way you could tell my pal Captain Briney about the Team Aqua base I found and that I know why those people on the S. S. Tidal got sick. He was pretty eager to find out what happened on that cruise ship the last time I talked with him. Hmmm, I wonder if he understands Mawile-speak." "Mawile?" The female Mawile shrugs, not knowing who Captain Briney is but aware that most humans don't understand her native tongue. "There has to be SOME way you can convey my message..." Marvin rubs his chin, pondering the possibilities, "If I only had paper and a pen, I could make a list of possible things you could do to let Captain Briney know... Hey, wait! That's it! A paper and a pen! Forget about making a stupid list, I could write a message for Captain Briney and you could take it to him in your mouth!" The Mawile nods, lifting two fingers of hers that could be considered thumbs at the middle-aged man, "Maw!" "You'll do it? Great! Do you have paper and a pen down here, or will you have to go look for them in Dewford Town?" The Mawile beckons Marvin to follow her by waving one arm. After Marvin stands up, she leads him into an area of the village she didn't show him when she gave him the grand tour a few days ago because she still wasn't fully sure she could trust him. Having gotten to know Marvin over the past few days, she feels comfortable directing him towards the Cache Corner, the area where the Mawile who live in the primitive village deposit interesting objects they find when wandering through Granite Cave for communal use. Many objects stored in the Cache Corner are items Trainers accidentally drop in the dark tunnels of Granite Cave. Having spent days underground, Marvin's youthful blue eyes have adjusted to the darkness, and when Mawile leads him into the dimly lit Cache Corner, he can see the giant pile of miscellaneous objects in the center of the area as if he were viewing them under direct moonlight. "Mawile maw," the Mawile says while pointing at the pile, letting Marvin know that he can help himself to anything he finds that might help him. Marvin clasps his hands, hoping he's understanding what the Mawile is telling him, "I can look through the pile for whatever I want?" The Mawile nods. "Great! Maybe I can find some magic props!" Marvin says, with a hopeful smile, before he shakes his head, "But first, paper and a pen." He starts digging through the pile. He tosses aside a Burn Heal, an Ice Heal, a Super Potion, a half-eaten Lava Cookie, a Shoal Shell, a Fluffy Tail, a Tiny Mushroom, and a Big Mushroom. He's about to toss aside a Pokeblock Case, but before throwing it, he decides to take a closer look at it. After admiring its craftsmanship, he shows the case to his Mawile friend, "This case reminds me of a PEZ dispenser I had when I was growing up in Pewter City. Can I keep it as a reminder of my time here?" The Mawile nods, figuring no one would miss the Pokeblock Case, "Maw!" "Thanks!" After placing the Pokeblock Case in one of his golden tuxedo's many pockets, Marvin goes back to rummaging through the pile. Within seconds, Marvin finds one of the two things he's looking for. He pulls a piece of Harbor Mail that hasn't been written on out of the pile. Noticing the Wingull drawn on the blue piece of paper, Marvin exclaims, "This Wingull looks just like Peeko! Captain Briney will love this!" Two minutes of rummaging later, Marvin finds a small piece of Charcoal in the pile, "It's not exactly a pen, but it's good enough!" Using his fingernails, he sharpens one end of the Charcoal piece and starts writing his message, "Dear Captain Briney," Marvin speaks as he writes, a habit he's had since elementary school, "I'm hiding from Team Aqua inside Granite Cave. I stumbled across a base they have in the cave by rotating a torch on a cave wall near the entrance three times. I overheard that Team Aqua was responsible for what happened on the S.S. Tidal. A man named Jack poisoned the food on the cruise. Please alert the authorities and let know when the S.S. Tidal comes to pick us up by giving this Mawile a message telling me. She knows where to find me." To the right of the Wingull print, Marvin signs, "From Marvin". He walks over to the Mawile who agreed to help him and is about to place the Pokeball in her mouth when he realizes if the message gets wet due to the Mawile's saliva, the Charcoal writing might smear. He turns to the pile once again and searches through it for a container. After a few seconds, he finds a Net Ball. He pries the spherical container open, places the Harbor Mail inside it, and closes it again. "Okay, Mawile, now open wide!" "Maaaaaw!" Mawile opens her humongous jaws wide and Marvin gently places the Net Ball he found on the Pokemon's long pink tongue, not wanting it to inadvertently pop open. When Marvin retracts his arm from her mouth, she clamps her jaws shut. "I'll wait in the village while you take my message to Captain Briney. He's an old bald man with a white goatee. Recently, he's been hanging out at Dewford Town's dock with Peeko, his Wingull. You should be able to find him there. If not, try Dewford Hall and the local Pokemon Center. Good luck finding him, Mawile, and please be careful up there!" The Mawile is about to say something, but she decides to remain silent since Marvin's message is in her mouth. She salutes with one arm and leaves the Cache Corner, dragging her giant maw towards Dewford Town. "Now it's time to play the waiting game." Marvin sits down in the Cache Corner. After two minutes of sitting in silence, Marvin's bored. He remarks, "Wailmer Simpson was right, the waiting game sucks. Maybe that old Hungry, Hungry Slowbro game is somewhere inside this pile!" -Marvin
