"What a shame," Carol said, mostly to herself. "Of all the people on my
list, I never imagined Minax would be the one to go straight. Minax is a nurse,
Trent's a dork, I don't even know where to begin looking for Maria... the list
is being narrowed down."
"List?" Trousle asked.
"Yeah!" Carol pulled out an old, heavily worn sheet of notebook paper. The
front had faint traces of math homework in faded pencil, but the back had a
list of names on them in black ink. "See, it's a list of all the people I look
up to and hope to one day emulate!"
"Idols, you mean?"
"Yeah, you could say that. Wanna see?" She held out the list for Trousle to
see. The doctor was taking a look as well. Minax and Trent Retwin were among
the names crossed out.
"Some of these people are convicted killers," the doctor said.
"Yeah, but that's big league stuff, I'm not really ready for that. Did you
know that William Retwin killed one-hundred and five people before his capture
and execution? If I'm going to die, THAT'S how I want to go out!"
"William who?" Trousle asked.
"...You're kidding. You'd better be kidding."
"No, I'm not. I've never heard of him."
"You... but... NEVER HEARD OF HIM?! HE'S ONLY THE DEADLIEST KILLER IN THE
HISTORY OF CELADON CITY! A HUNDRED AND FIVE PEOPLE IN A TEMPORARY FIT OF
STRESS-INDUCED INSANITY BEFORE THE COPS GOT HIM! HOW COULD YOU NOT KNOW THIS?!"
Carol angrily shoved her list back into her jacket pocket. "Good day to you!"
Carol didn't actually go anywhere, but she did turn her back to them and cross
her arms.
