Date: Tuesday, January 13, 2004 8:56 PM Since the WG I posted yesterday seems to have gotten good reviews, I figure I might as well try my hand at this. ------------------------------------------- The boy stepped off the ship onto the sandy beaches of an Orange Island. He really didn't know his exact location, but he figured he'd find out soon enough. A warm breeze blew through his hair, and he felt it refreshing. "This is a nice place," he thought. "I could get used to this." His name was Russell Lackey, however he prefered to be called Russ. The situations that brought him to the Orange Islands were not happy ones--his grandfather, who had raised him in Goldenrod for most of his life, had just passed away. Russ knew not the locations of any relatives or anywhere he could go, so he packed a few possessions and set off to see the world. He might have been awfully lonely, had it not been for his travelling companion, a Porygon he had had since he was 8. The Porygon was the closest thing to family that Russ had, and the two were very close friends. "Pory!" piped up the small Pokémon as Russ began daydreaming. "You're hungry, aren't you, pal?" The Porygon nodded in acknowledgement. "Let's get going and see if we can't find a place to grab a bite, then." Together, Russ and Porygon began their trip through the city. It was quite a nice city, with many different attractions. One thing was on both their minds at the time--food. Finally, they found a café and settled in for a rest. "May I take your order?" a waiter asked to the pair. "I'll take a hamburger," Russ said. "And my friend here would like an ice cream cone." "Right away," the waiter replied. The food came fairly quickly, and to the delight of the hungry Russ and his Porygon, were quite large portions. They began to happily eat, when a girl approached the table. "Do you mind if I sit here?" she inquired. Russ looked up, and to his surprise he noticed that the café was now full to the brim with customers. He had been in the "no seats left" situation before, so he understood her. "Why, sure. I don't mind at all," Russ replied. "Thank you very much, sir! You're quite a gentleman. Say, I've never seen you around here before. What's your name?" "Russ Lackey. I came from Goldenrod." "Mine's Laurie. Nice to meet you, Russ!" "Where exactly is this place?" Russ asked, still baffled by their location. "Valencia Island. It's really beautiful down here this time of year." "Yes, it is! What kind of things are on this island?" "There's lots of good fruit in that lush forest to the north, and the laboratory of Professor Ivy is to the northeast." "Professor Ivy?" "She's an expert on Pokémon, and knows a particularly good amount about the difference between Pokémon from where you come from and those down here. She's really a kind person, so if you ever run into her, she'll help you out."
