Subject: [PW!] But she's not psychic!

Hi again! I wrote this to go along with Alyssa's idea of a psychic convention
in the Unknown Dungeon. Erin's not psychic, but I think that'l make it all the
more fun. Fish out of water are always fun to work with.
Here we go..
Erin and Olli looked over the town of Saffron. It was a big city, and people
were EVERYWHERE.
"I bet everyone's real friendly, what do you think?"
"Cubone bone!"
Erin took one step and was immediately hit in the side by a speeding
pedestrian. "Ow!" she whimpered. "That wasn't very nice!" The pedestrian said
some words that I really shouldn't repeat here, and went along his merry way.
"Bone bone cuuu.."
"Oh come on." Erin reasoned with Olli. "Not everyone has to be that bad." What
Erin didn't realize, is that this is a CITY. It would be a little like talking
someone out of Vanceburg, Kentucky and putting them in New York City. They're
used to their little friendly community, and chances are, they don't know a lot
of the words used in strenuous situations in big cities. They're just
not used to no one knowing anyone else, or, for that matter, caring.
Erin walked on to the Pokécenter, Olli trailing behind.
-----
"I heard that Pokécenters are the best place to hear gossip, and, in our case,
good advise and information." Erin told Olli. She didn't know why she did, but
just bear with me here.
The Pokécenter in Saffron had a lot of people in it that day. It was packed
full of pitiful looking Pokémon, too. One man in particular sort of stuck out.
"You have to help my Mankey!" he whined. "It lost against Sabrina!"
Nurse Joy sighed. Great, another bimbo who thought he could win with a
fighting Pokémon. When will they ever learn?
"Sure thing!" She tried her hardest to sound cheerful. Taking the Mankey in
her hands, she chirped, "Be right back."
Erin trotted over to the man. "Sir? What went wrong?"
"Sabrina beat my other Pokémon." He sighed. "Say, you a trainer?"
Erin nodded.
"Which Pokémon you'packin'?"
Erin pointed triumphantly to Olli. "This Cubone, sir!"
The man laughed. "One Pokémon? A REAL trainer carries more than one! You're
just a rookie!"
Cocking her head to one side, she asked, "How do you catch more Pokémon?"
The man sort of motioned with his hands. "You weaken it first, then toss a
Pokéball. Hey - want to see my Pokémon?" He held out 5 balls. "Growlithe,
Poliwhirl, Voltorb, Weepinbell, and Dewgong. And, there IS Mankey..."
At this point, Nurse Joy came back with the man's Mankey. "Thank you, come
again!" The man returned his Mankey to it's Pokéball, said good-bye, and left.
Erin stared at the door where he left, fists clenched. "Rookie?" She snarled.
Cubone growled with her. "I didn't want to say it to his face, but that was a
little rude." Erin knew she was a rookie, but she didn't want to admit it. She
sort of became a trainer by accident, so she was kind of faking the whole
thing.
"Bone bone!"
"I bet I can catch all the Pokémon I want!"
"Bone cu cu!"
"Come on, Olli! We're going to catch us a Pokémon!"
They stormed out of the center, prepared to catch SOMETHING, Pokémon or
otherwise. It never occurred to Erin that the man's Pokéballs were really
empty.
-----
Erin and Olli hadn't even left Saffron when they heard a rustle in the bushes.
A loud noise sounded as a small Pidgey flew out and up.
"What's that?" Asked Erin. She whipped out her Pokédex.
"Pidgey." The Pokédex explained. "A flying type Pokémon. It's very gentle,
and.."
Erin shut the Pokédex. "Sounds good to me! Olli, get ready!"
"Bone!"
"Olli!" Erin commanded, like she figured she was supposed to, "Bone Club!"
Olli took a swing at the Pidgey, only to have it fly over his head. He swung
again, but the Pidgey was too high for him to reach. Over and over he flailed
his club, until the Pidgey got bored and flew off.
"Cuuu.." Cubone whimpered, defeated.
Erin was puzzled. "I don't get it. Why did we loose?"
"Because Olli's a ground Pokémon!"
Erin opened her Pokédex up. "Olli is weak against flying Pokémon." it
explained.
"Oh." Erin looked at the Pokédex. That made a hill - o - beans worth of sense.
"Vulpix! Vulpix vul!" A Vulpix daintily climbed out of the bushes, and sat
down.
"Before I start," Erin turned asked the 'dex, "What are my chances on this'n?"
"Excellent." It assured her.
"Z'alright!" Erin cheered. "Olli, Bone Club!"
Olli took a good look at the situation. He quietly tiptoed behind the Vulpix,
paused for a moment, then knocked the waddin' out of her with his bone club.
The Vulpix hopped up and whizzed around. She gave one quick Ember, but Olli
dodged it well. He looked to his trainer for direction.
"Bone club?" Erin shrugged.
Olli hit the Vulpix over the head again. She wavered for a moment.
Erin grabbed a Pokéball. She tossed it at the Vulpix, who was sucked in. One
... two ... three ... the ball shut, and the Vulpix was caught.
Erin picked up the ball. "I got a Vulpix! I got a Vulpix!" She sang.
Activating the ball, she let it loose. She bent down and patted the Vulpix on
the head.
"Cubone cubone!" Olli reminded.
"Right, it does need a nickname." Erin replied. "Since I have an Oliver, it's
only appropriate to have a Twist. That's what I'll call the Vulpix." Twist
purred a little bit, best a Vulpix can purr. Erin returned her to her Pokéball.
"Best get you to the Pokécenter, Twist." She turned around and left, Olli by
her side.
-----
"Here's your Pokémon!" Nurse Joy handed Twist's ball back to Erin.
"Thanks." Erin took the ball, and looked on her person. Unbuttoning a pocket
on her cargo pants, she elected it to be the best place for Pokéballs. "Say?"
She called, as Nurse Joy turned around. "Where would the best place for a
starting trainer to go?"
Joy smiled. "There's no direct route to Pewter City, so you can go north to
Cerulean, and then west to Pewter. That'll be the best route for you."
"Thanks!" Erin, Olli and Twist left.
-----
"What a walk!"
"Cu cubone.."
Erin and Olli trudged off Route 5 and into Cerulean City. Neither one of them
had realized that Route 5 was as long as it was. Erin dug in her cargo pocket
and produced Twist's pokéball. "Twist, come on out. I bet you'd like a
stretch."
Twist came out, and yawned a bit. She stretched back on her hind legs, and
then trotted up to Erin. Erin sighed, figuring out what those big brown eyes
were pleading for, and put Twist up on her shoulders. She picked up Olli, who
was rather tired himself, and started toward the Pokécenter.
"Pokémon! Pokémon! Pokémon for sale! Leftovers from the auction! Must be
sold!" Erin looked over to a small, handmade booth with a small man in the
booth. She made her way over to the booth.
"Sir?" She asked. "What Pokémon are you selling?"
The man took out a box of Pokéballs. Not many were left at all. Each Pokéball
had a little tag on it. "Name and price printed on the tag." He said.
Erin dug through. Gyrados, Nidoqueen, Golem.. she was too much of a newbie to
recognize these gems. Besides, she couldn't afford them. However, she did find
one ball that interested her. And at a fair price, too! "Clefairy.." She read
the little tag on its ball.
"Clefairy?" The man was puzzled that she picked this one. But, oh well.
Whatever works. "Oh yes. It's a normal Pokémon, but sometimes it almost seems
psychic."
Erin looked the ball over. "Can I see it?" As the man nodded, she shook the
ball, then let the Clefairy out.
"Clefairy?" It asked.
Olli hopped out of Erin's arms and sniffed it. "Cu?"
"Fairy!"
"Cu bone bone cuu?"
"Clefairy cle."
"Well!" The man interjected, hoping to make a sell. "They're fast friends!"
Erin bent down and looked it over. It was a healthy shade of pink, and its
eyes were bright.. "Sure," She replied, "I'll take her."
"Cleeee!" Giggled the Clefairy. It gave a hop as Erin handed the man his
money.
"Lessie.." Erin thought aloud, "You need a nickname. Hey, remember Dickens' "A
Tail of Two Cities"? Of course not, you're a Pokémon. Anyway, I read that book.
I think I'll call you Lucie, a character from that book."
"Cle?"
"Sure, sure."
"Cle clee!" She pointed up.
"Oh, of course."
By this time, Olli and Twist had looked up. "Cubone cuu!" Olli wildly flailed
his bone in the air, trying to point to something.
"Vulpix!" Twist nudged at Erin.
"Oh," Erin insisted, "Wha- What!?" When Erin looked up, she saw a very unusual
sight indeed. People and Pokémon were flying overhead. Abra, Hypno, men, women,
you name it.
Erin, Olli, Twist and Lucie just stared for a while. Flying people were not a
sight you see every day. Finally, Erin spoke. "Can you follow them, Lucie?"
"Cle-hee hee!" Lucie giggled. She gave a jump, and in Midair, Erin grabbed her
foot. Olli grabbed Erin's foot, and Twist clung tight to Erin's shoulders.
Lucie got a good, quick start, and they were off to the psychic gathering,
despite not a one having psychic powers.
There we go. TBC? Oh, prolly.

"Geez, Bean, you really *have* been going through my stuff, huh? I mean, no one
else seems to know about my nefarious plot of world domination through
televangelism. ....oh, wait..."
