((Another post! MWAHAHAHA! ::ahem:: I'm better now. Too many pepsis this
evening. Heh heh. Hey Shard, drop me a line sometime and we can organize a
meeting, k?))
~Karma Rocket~
"Knave, we've been walking for hours! Are you
sure this is the way to Cerulean City?" Aislynn asked, catching her breath.
"We going right way." the clefairy insisted.
"I see water from here."
"That doesn't mean anything...there's water
everywhere." Maki put in irately. "We could be halfway to Lavender for all you
know."
"How long YOU been guide?" Knave shot back. "I
KNOW where we going."
"Oh yeah? Then where are we?" he asked.
"We....we almost there." Knave replied. "I not
road map."
"Well if you navigate as well as you flap that
mouth of yours, we'll be there in no time." Maki smirked.
"Guys, can we PLEASE make the rest of this
trip without fighting?" Aislynn implored. "If you two want to tear each other
up when we get to the hotel, fine...but I don't want to listen to it."
"You sound just like my mom." Maki chided.
"I'll pity YOUR kids."
"Very funny." she replied, her voice devoid
of emotion. "I could barely sleep last night with you two fighting."
"He stole pillow!" Knave accused, pointing at
Maki.
"Yeah well you were hogging my side of the
bed." he shot back. "Next time we stay in a hotel, we're gettin' separate
rooms. I don't care WHAT you say!" he informed Aislynn.
"Its not my fault there was only one room
left...and you're the one who insisted we let all the pokemon out." she told
him.
"Yeah well I didn't think I'd be sharing a
bed with YOUR pokemon."
"What can I say? Fade-out and Zanthrax took
up a lot of room in my bed." she shrugged.
"Sorry to interrupt argument but we here."
Knave informed the humans, pointing at a sign.
"Welcome to Cerulean City." Maki read,
looking at the drawing of the overly-happy Dewgong emblazened on it. "Home of
various water pokemon and the gym leader, Misty."
"Seems friendly enough." Aislynn nodded.
"Okay, first thing's first. When we get there, we're gonna check into a hotel.
That way we'll get two different rooms before the drifters all settle in at the
last minute."
"And then?" Maki asked.
"And then the gym, I suppose." she replied.
"No way....I gotta get to a phone. Hiro owes
me a bulbasaur." he grinned.
"Oh yeah...that bet you had with your
brother." she smiled. "You're gonna fill up your pokedex in no time at this
rate."
"That's what I'm hopin'." he replied as they
made their way down the path toward the city. The air smelled faintly of
chlorine and humidity hung heavily in the air as they walked.
"If anybody sees a hotel, let me know."
Aislynn told them.
"No hotels, but I DO see a gym." Maki told
her, looking at the behemoth structure before them. "Wow...a lot more classy
than the Pewter gym, huh?"
"Is big!" Knave remarked, squinting in an
attempt to see into the windows up ahead where aquariums were vaguely visible.
"I think maybe I'll forget the boulder badge
and see about a cascade badge." Maki said. "After all, I have a plant pokemon
and they're supposed to really be able to stand up to water pokemon."
"I guess I'll make do with what I have."
Aislynn told him. "Lilly's a plant but I dunno how it'd stand up to water
pokemon with more experience."
"Can decide later." Knave told her. "Gotta
find hotel. Remember?"
"I remember." she told the clefairy. "And
you're right...let's go, Maki."
"I'll catch up with ya." he told her. "I'm
gonna call my brother and then try my luck here."
"Okay, have fun." she told him, hearing his
footsteps recede. "See anything, Knave?"
"Starmie's Drop-In." he read off of a nearby
sign. "Think that one?"
"Couldn't hurt to check." she shrugged.
"Where is it?"
"Take four steps forward." he instructed.
"Then turn to the left." Aislynn followed the directions and stood still,
waiting for him to tell her what to do next.
"May I help you, miss?" a receptionist behind
the front desk, straightening her glasses on her nose. Behind her was a massive
fishtank where several staryu and starmie looped lazily in the water, stopping
every once in awhile to release a jet of silver bubbles to the surface.
"Is--Is this a hotel?" she asked, realizing
how idiotic it must have sounded as the receptionist chuckled.
"Only one of the best in Cerulean. Would you
like a room?"
"Yes...well, actually two rooms." Aislynn
corrected herself. The clerk cocked a questioning eyebrow. "I have a friend
here too and he's not here right now. He's off at the gym."
"Gonna challenge Misty, huh?" she asked. "Are
you two on your pokemon journey?"
"Yeah!" Aislynn smiled.
"Well, ya know, we have a ten percent
discount for people on their pokemon journey so we'll only charge you 40 yen a
night." the receptionist smiled.
"That'd be great." Aislynn replied happily.
"We might be here a couple of days anyway."
"Just sign your name here." the receptionist
said, flipping open a thick leather-bound book to a blank page and pointing at
it. Aislynn hesitated. "What's wrong, little girl? Don't you have a pen? Here
you can use mine." she offered, taking a pen out from behind her ear and
handing it to Aislynn. The girl groped blankly at the air for a moment before
Knave scuttled down her arm and took it from the woman, placing it in Aislynn's
hand. A look of understanding came over the clerk as she reached out, taking
the purple-haired girl by the wrist and guiding her toward the desk. "Right
here, hon."
"Thanks." Aislynn said appreciatively as she
felt for the book and then signed her name, slightly unevenly on the page.
"Here's your key." the receptionist said,
pressing a small silver key into Aislynn's palm. "What's your friend's name?
I'll give him his key when he gets here."
"Maki." she replied. "Do I pay now or when I
leave?"
"Well, how about you go get settled into your
room first and I'll send an attendant up later to see how you're doing and you
can pay then?" she suggested.
"Okay ma'am." Aislynn said respectively.
"Your room number is 136 and its down the
hallway to the left. It has a horsea on the door which I'm sure your little
clefairy guide can point out for you." she instructed.
"Turn right and take three steps. That where
hallway is." Knave told her.
"Thanks again!" Aislynn called over her
shoulder, moving in the desired direction.

"No way..." Hiro groaned, his expression one
of disbeilief in the monitor of the video phone.
"Yes way!" Maki grinned. "I'm in Cerulean,
man!"
"How do I know you're not just callin' from
somewhere in Viridian City? We don't have caller ID." he asked suspiciously.
"Cause ya can't get one of THESE in Viridian."
Maki grinned, proudly taking his newly-won Cascade Badge out of his pocket and
showing it proudly to the phone's screen. "Now cough up my bulbasaur!"
"Wait a sec...YOU beat MISTY?" he asked,
almost yelling.
"Yup! Scribbles and Smirk really kicked some
butt in there!" he laughed.
"Yeah and I suppose I just sat on my tail in a
pokeball??" an irate voice asked as a pokeball on Maki's belt shook violently
and then sprang open. "Don't forget, mister
high-and-mighty-because-I-can-walk-upright human, that it was ME who saved yer
hairless butt from that starmie!!" Maki facefaulted as Meowmix, his meowth,
seated itself on the floor glaring daggers at him.
"Errmm...sorry Meowmix..." he tried, taking a
step away from the enraged pokemon...but then again, Meowmix ALWAYS seemed to
be in a bad mood.
"Sorry, nuttin!" the meowth screeched, rearing
back and kicking his human counterpart in the shins as hard as he could which
still wasn't enough to make Maki do more than wince. "You haven't let me outta
that stupid pokeball ONCE since we left home!"
"What? I let you out last night at the hotel!"
he argued.
"Oh REAL excitin'! I get to sit on top of the
black and white TV and watch you and your little girlfriend snooze with all
those other sorry excuses for pokemon you got!" the cat growled.
"Look, she's NOT my girlfriend...and if you
don't shut up, I'm gonna toss you into a masterball so fast, it'll make your
eyes spin!" Maki snapped.
"BIG threat. There's only one masterball and
its under lock and key in a museum. So what else ya gonna threaten me with?
Gonna sick your imaginary Mewtwo on me too? Ooooh! I'm shakin'!" Meowmix
snapped.
"Yup...YOU'RE sure the makings of a pokemon
master." Hiro taunted, snickering as Maki grabbed up the cat's pokeball and
recalled it, holding the ball shut tightly until Meowmix stopped struggling
inside and settled down again.
"Just gimme the bulbasaur." he growled in a
menacing tone. Hiro shook his head laughing and then moved to press a series of
buttons on the control panel of the phone. Maki kept his eyes focused on the
small clear box to the side of the monitor as it made a whirring sound and then
a pokeball slowly materialized.
"I'd better get going." Hiro said as Maki
opened the box and withdrew the pokeball, feeling the reassuring weight of the
pokemon in his hand. "And Maki? Take care of yerself...okay? Mom's worried."
"Yeah okay." he smiled. "Stay cool." and with
that, the connection was terminated. Maki looked at the blank monitor for a
moment before his attention turned to the pokeball in his hand. "Pokeball,
go!" he cried, hurling it to the floor.
"Bulbasaaauurrr!" the plant pokemon declared,
appearing.
"Yup I remember you." Maki smiled, kneeling
beside the pokemon and petting it. "You're gonna stay with me now."
"Saauurr." the bulbasaur rasped, making
something between a sneer and a smile...Maki couldn't exactly tell.
"Too bad I didn't call Hiro BEFORE I battled
Misty...I'll bet you would've really kicked her water pokemon's flippers." he
told the bulbasaur. "Oh well. Anyway, a friend of mine is supposed to be
booking us a hotel room somewhere around here so I guess I'll let ya out once
we find it."
"Saur?" it asked.
"Yeah that means back in the ball. See ya in a
little while, pal." he told the pokemon, calling it back into its pokeball.
"Ookay, that's two priorities down...now where did you get to, Aislynn?" he
asked the thin air, walking out of the gym.
