Coming to Celadon:
(Follows on from Vengeful Thoughts.)
Shrike drifted over the Celadon sky, slowly wheeling over the City of
Rainbow Dreams. Her passengers, Felix, Tick and Samuraichu looked down
into the bustling metropolis, the stylised Gloom petals of the Celadon
City Gym directly below them.
"Feeearow."
"Well, I suppose we can take on Erika first."
"Chu! Raichu!"
"Brace yourself."
Diving down, Shrike performed a speedy 70 degree landing at the foot
of the Celadon City gym. Felix remembered to scream for dear life a
few minutes after.
----------
"Gloom gloom gloom!"
As usual, the trainers of the Celadon City Gym were at work tending to
the greenhouse. The arena seemed to be hidden away at the back, an
unwanted display of warfare in an otherwise tranquil settling.
Samuraichu pushed open the door, and let Felix and Tick through. As
usual, Shrike spiralled off into the air above.
"Hello!" exclaimed one of the rather alluring trainers. "What can I
help you with?" Samuraichu, in the manner of his species didn't bother
about her face.
"We're here to see Erika." Tick's face remained cold and
expressionless.
"If you would be so kind," quickly added Felix, disturbed by his
friend's unusual behaviour.
The beautiful young trainer ushered them through the greenhouse,
Samuraichu drooling close behind.
----------
"Erika!"
"Yes?" Erika sat in a seiza position in a stone circle, the flowers of
the Celadon City Gym surrounding her. Gloom was by her side, asleep.
"We have, trainers."
"Oh. Please open the arena." Her voice was calm and collected.
Felix, Tick and Samuraichu were led inside the arena. Floodlights
flickered into life, displaying the true purpose of the Celadon City
Gym. Despite the peaceful appearance, it was still as any other gym, a
proving-ground for trainers.
"How many Pokemon?"
"Two-on-two suits me fine."
Felix stifled a laugh. This would be much easier than he thought.
"Go Weepinbel!"
"Duh....." Weepinbel was quick and nimble , and could strike hard &
fast with its powerful Wrap and Razor Leaf combination. While
restraining the target, it would be cut to shreds by the whirlwind of
razor-sharp leaves.
"Chansey! Go!" Though her Light Screen would be rendered useless
against a tornado of Razor Leaves, Felix had an ace up his sleeve.
"Weepinbel! Wrap!"
"Duh!"
Chansey, being too rotund to dodge was easily caught by Weepinbel's
tendrils. However, she too knew what Felix had in mind. Tick and
Samuraichu were already exchanging cash.
"Weepinbel! Razor Leaf!"
A whirlwind of razor-sharp leaves filled the arena. Chansey made no
attempt to dodge. Her pink skin was sliced and lacerated, but she
seemed unfazed.
"Finish it off! Acid!"
"BIDE!"
Chansey took hold of Weepinbel's outstreched tendrils, and began to
glow.
"Get out of there!"
Trapped by the professional wrestler, Weepinbel was unable to escape.
Chansey's bulk and her stubby arms were powerful enough to hold the
vines in place, keeping Weepinbel from escaping.
"Release!"
"Chan...."
The arena darkened as all the available energy was drained to feed the
immense energies of Bide. Floodlights flickered, and the entire
Celadon power grid was momentarily disrupted by the massive drain.
Bubbles of pure energy floated into Chansey's body, which by now had
built up a massive charge.
Erika took out a Pokeball and attempted to call off Weepinbel, but the
red beams of he Pokeball were absorbed by Chansey's attack.
"CHANSEEEEEEY!!!!"
A nimbus of internal strength surrounded Chansey, and was released as
surges of blue lightning through Weepinbel's tendrils. The flycatcher
Pokemon was almost vapourized, and Erika wasted no time in returning
it to its Pokeball. An assistant trainer quickly rushed the Weepinbel
off to the Celadon Pokecentre.
"Go Gloom!" Gloom hopped out into the arena, and geared up for a
spray of its powerful Acid. To most opponents, a Gloom was a feared
adversary. Physically it was not strong or tough, but Gloom could
rapidly blanket an area with its noxious fumes. The toxic gas could
easily cripple an opponent and keep it in place for a killing spray of
acid.
"Go Galahad!" To a Beedrill however, this was a different story.
Due to her gym-leader status, Erika was unable to surrender, only
watch in horror as her life-long companion Gloom was savagely attacked
by Galahad. Gloom ducked and rolled, attempting to overwhelm Galahad's
sense with powerful fumes, but Galahad was nimble and could easily
rake Gloom with Pin Missiles.
"Gloom! Give it everything!"
The toxic fumes thickened to an opaque texture. Bulkheads sealed the
arena, and assistant trainers handed Erika, Felix, Tick and Samuraichu
gas masks.
"Galahad! Use your launcher!"
Galahad's own venom protected him from the smog, but he couldn't see
the target. However, the smokescreen protected both him also from
attack. Reaching down to his stinger the huge barb detached from
Galahad's tail, a technique picked up from the Hive security guards.
He held the stinger in his lance-like hands in the fashion of a rifle,
and wated for the smoke to clear.
"Pin Missile! Three o'clock!"
Felix caught sight of Gloom's movement in a less-dense area of the
smog, and shouted to Galahad. The Beedrill couldn't see the target,
but unleashed a spray of Pin Missiles from his stinger.
"GLOOOOOM!"
Galahad was rewarded by seeing the smog clear and Gloom collapsed on
the ground.
----------
"Congratulations." Erika pinned the Rainbowbadge to the inside of
Felix's heavy jacket. A gift-wrapped Mega Drain TM plasticard was also
handed to him by a assistant trainer. She turned to Tick and
Samuraichu "I'm afraid I can't fight you, as my Pokemon are too
injured to fight. However, we can use the simulators."
"Alright," shrugged Tick.
"Chu!"
Erika, Tick and Samuraichu left for the simulator training ground,
while Felix made his own way out.
----------
"The Pokemon Auction's started!" exclaimed Felix. A crowd was
assembling in the Celadon central forum, and smaller stalls were being
hastily constructed around the perimeter.
He didn't have much money, but was hoping for a Sky Attack TM for
Cygnet. Of course, he could borrow Tick's supply of Rare Candies but
Tick would be out on patrol for Alex and hard to find.
Rainbowbadge safely under his belt, Felix set off to the auction.
