BZZZT! BZZZT!" Kyle's alarm blazed loudly as the sun began to rise over the horizon in the town of Pallet. "I hate mornings..." Kyle muttered as he groggily shut off the alarm clock and forced himself out of bed. After taking a shower, he decided to go ahead and go downstairs and get some breakfast rather than stay in his room and watch TV. Upon working his way downstairs, he discovered a warm, gooey plate of cinnamon rolls sitting at the table in the dining room. "Whoa! Yes! Cinnamon rolls!" Kyle shouted as he rushed into the dining room. Then he noticed both of his parents sitting at the table. "Hey, Mom. Hey Dad," Kyle said as he crammed a roll into his enourmous mouth. "Hey Dad? Why aren't you at work? It's 10:30! Your boss is gonna kill you!" Kyle asked in a curious tone. "Um, Kyle?" Mom said. "Your father isn't at work because we have something very important to tell you." "What is it?" Kyle asked, anticipating a trip to Celadon City or maybe a cruise on the St. Anne. "Your mother's right," Dad said, ignoring Kyle. "What we have to tell you is that you were adopted." "WHAT?!" Kyle shouted in amazement and disbelief. "What day is this? Is it April 1st? You guys are joking right? "No, it's true. You were found abandoned near Cerulean City. Fortunatly, someone discovered you and we decided to adopt you," Mom stated. Kyle shook his head in disbelief, not wanting to believe thathe had spent his whole life with two people who weren't even his parents. "I still think you're joking," Kyle said with a hint of nervousness in his voice. "No joke," Dad replied straightforwardly. "Dammit. God dammit," Kyle muttered under his breath. "KYLE! You are not to curse in this house!" his mother shouted with intensity. "Calm down. Remember the circumstances that Kyle is under. What would you do if you were told that you were adopted?" Dad replied. Kyle's mother stood down. Kyle began to ask a question, but was interupted by the doorbell. "Forget it," Dad said to Kyle. "Let me at least see who it is. It might be Julie. We were going to go out on the ocean today," Kyle replied forcefully as he walked to the door. Sure enough, it was Julie. Kyle opened the door. "Hey, Julie," Kyle said quietly. "Hey, where were you? I've been waiting at the docks for half an hour!" Julie replied in an accusing manner. "Um, something came up." Kyle said, leaving it at that. "What? Come on, we're going out. You should at least open up to me a little." "I can't tell you now, but maybe later. Sorry about the trip." "It's OK. Maybe another time?" "Sure. Bye," Kyle said as he shut the door. He returned to the dining room, and continued asking his questions. "So, who were my real parents, er, biological parents?" "We don't know. We've already told you everything that the adoption agency told us. However, supposedly your father was very involved with Pokémon," his mother replied. "OK, um, then why did you decide to tell me now?" Kyle asked. "Let me field this one, honey," Dad said to Mom. "We knew that as soon as we told you, you would immedietly want to leave. But we waited till we decided that you were old enough and responsible enough to handle such a journey. We knew that you would become a Pokémon trainer so that you could find out about your parents." "You're right. I do want to leave and find my parents. But I don't have enough money to buy a Pokémon." "We've taken care of that," Mom said as she handed a backpack to Kyle. He immedietly opened it and discovered a few TM's, $1500, and a PokéBall. "Wow! Thanks Mom! Thanks Dad! This is great! What kind of Pokémon is it?" Kyle asked happily. "Go ahead and find out," replied Dad. Kyle gently pulled out the PokéBall and pressed the small button on the equator. It immediatly enlarged. Kyle tossed the PokéBall in the air and let it bounce on the ground. It clicked open, and a translucent red beam shot out of it. It materialized into a Pokémon. "Char! Charmander!" the little Pokémon shouted as it saw Kyle for the first time. It immediatly ran into his arms. "WOW! A Charmander! I love Charmanders! Yes! I've got Charmander!" shouted Kyle as he was being hugged by the Charmander. Kyle's parents grinned. They knew that Kyle had grown up and that is was time for him to leave.
