The group had been in the cave for only a few minutes. "Sirius, Simon, David, you three will go in that direction. Here's the map." "We'll contact you if we run into trouble. Good luck," said Simon as he walked into the darkness wielding a flashlight. Sirius and David followed. Chris chuckled quietly. Those three were going on the trap the Rockets had set up. A few Rockets hired Chris to do this, but mainly it was his own doing and his own idea. If Sirius never ran into trouble and survived, surely a Pokémon Master like him would get credit for the discovery. Obviously not a humble researcher like Chris. He turned to Wind, Neo, and Derrick. "We're going that way," he said, pointing to the north. "Let's go." Chris, Wind, Derrick, and Neo headed north. They were walking for quite some time. They reached a wide open area. Chris held up the lantern to look around. "Help me... Please help me," Chris saw a young girl, about ten years old. She looked hungry and her face was bruised and cut. She was crying softly. "What happened!?" asked Chris. "I was with my friends a few days ago. We were going to Cerulean City to get a Cascadebadge," she sobbed. "We got lost, and we heard this terrible sound. This small shiny animal came. My friend went up to it and it flashed. I heard screaming, and I ran into here and hid." She buried her face in her hands. "I think they're... dead." Chris's conscience wouldn't allow him to abandon her. "Wind, take her out to the entrance. Give her something to drink," he said. Wind nodded and took the girl's hand. She led her back the way she came. He turned to Derrick and Neo. "Mew must be close by here, we're on the right track." Sirius, Simon, and David were going through the trap route Chris had set them up for. They found many human skeletons on their way, and their fear began to grow. The tunnel was getting thinner and thinner. They stopped to rest after hours of walking. David, though a skilled trainer, was beginning to want to turn back. He wished he had refused Professor Oak's offer. Things looked grim. If all these other people died, what chance did he have? Just a little longer, he thought, and he might get out of here alive. "Come on, let's get going," said Simon as he got up to his feet. He heard a quiet sound coming from the entrance and exit of the room. "I'm afraid you're not going anywhere," replied a sinister voice. "Prepare for trouble!" "And make it double!" "To protect the world from devastation." "To unite all peoples within our nation." "To denounce the evils of truth and love." "To extend our reach to the stars above." "Cassidy!" "Butch!" "Team Rocket blasts off at the speed of light!" "Surrender now or prepare... to fight!" "It's Team Rocket!" remarked David. "Well, duh," replied Cassidy. "Cassidy, let's attack now!" "Let's fight!" yelled Cassidy. "Venomoth, go!" "Scyther, attack!" said Butch. "Scyther!" the Scyther screamed. "Come on, it's two against three. This should be easy," encouraged Sirius. "Go, Reis!" Sirius's Dragonite materialized. "Flareon, go!" David smiled. Something fun for once, he thought. "Flare! Flare! Flare!" "Spike, I choose you!" The Sandslash rolled into a ball and rammed into Venomoth when its guard was down. It fell to the ground, desperately flapping its wings trying to get back up. Reis dodged Scyther's slash at slammed it against the cave wall. "Flareon, Fire Spin!" Flareon opened her mouth and fired the twister of flames at the two bugs. Both became engulfed in the hot fire, and both soon fainted. "That was too easy," boasted David. Butch and Cassidy smirked. Dreadite appeared out of the darkness. "Who're you? Another Rocket?" "I'm the shadow of your former self. I'm the darkness swallowing the light. I'm the..." "OK, I get it, you're evil," said David impatiently. He turned to Simon and Sirius. "What are you waiting for? Let's fight!" Simon was filled with rage. Dreadite was the one who destroyed Anti-Team Rocket and killed his friends emotionlessly. Dreadite was one of his most hated enemies. Sirius drew his sword and rushed at him at full speed. Dreadite's eyes flashed red and the three trainers were hit unconscious. Wind was leading the girl through the cave. Soon, they reached the entrance to the cave. "Go to the Pewter City hospital, they should help you out," said Wind. The girl thanked her and walked away towards the light. Wind turned to go when she heard the girl scream. She immediately took out a Pokéball and ran to the girl. The girl was OK, but in front of both of them was the clone of Mew: Mewtwo. Wind took the girl's hand and started running back the way they came. Suddenly, Mewtwo's thoughts flooded Wind's mind. You will never reach her. All who try will die. I will end this now. Mewtwo closed its eyes and shot out a beam of psychic energy. Wind took the hit and backed up against the wall, reeling. Trying not to feel the tremendous pain, she struggled to stay conscious. "Go... Get out of here, now!" she told the girl. The girl ran out of the cave, and Mewtwo paid no attention. As Mewtwo stepped closer and closer to her, Wind used all her strength to stand up. She reached for her Pokéball. All who are here will die. You will die now. "RHYYYYY DOOOOOOON!" The ground shook from the tremendous noise. Chris frowned at the noise while Derrick and Neo were confused. "What's a Rhydon doing here!?" yelled Neo, trying to keep his voice loud enough to be heard. "I don't know, but we don't have time to find out! We have to fight!" shouted Chris. "Go, Poliwrath! Hit it with Water Gun!" "Victreebel, go!" said Derrick. "Razor Leaf attack, now!" "I choose Blastoise! Charge up Hydro Pump and attack!" The noise became louder and louder. Poliwrath, Victreebel, and Blastoise braced themselves. Soon, the giant Rhydon crashed into the area, knocking down the stalactites on the roof of the cave. The three Pokémon dodged the sickles and attacked. While being flooded with water and cut with leaves, the Rhydon increased its already fast pace. Chris, Derrick, and Neo nervously inched backwards. Rhydon soon came in attacking distance, and slammed its tail into the ground creating a crater. Rocks flew upwards, and the Pokémon were hit. Poliwrath was relatively healthy, but Victreebel and Blastoise were in bad shape. Blastoise took a deep breath as Rhydon began to raise its tail once again. Blastoise then blasted Hydro Pump at Rhydon's body. The water pushed Rhydon backwards. Rhydon fell down and fainted. "We... we beat'em!" cheered Derrick. Rhydon's body became white and began to shrink. "Mew?" gasped Chris. But the creature wasn't a Mew, simply a mere Ditto. Chris still looked at Derrick and Neo impatiently. "What are you waiting for? Chase it!" Derrick and Neo didn't bother questioning Chris and immediately ran towards the Ditto. Chris followed behind. The Ditto looked over its shoulder and saw the trainers chasing it. It ran as fast as its gooey body could take it, going around corners and leaping over rocks. Finally, Chris, Derrick, and Neo cornered it. Chris loaded his gun and aimed at Ditto. "I know what you're doing. Show your true form or die." Ditto looked puzzled and stayed silent. "I said, show your true form." Ditto remained silent, but its fear was rising. "SHOW YOUR TRUE FORM NOW!" demanded Chris. "DO IT NOW OR DIE!" Ditto sighed and began to transform. TBC...
