But if you need >help, I suppose I could give you a hand." > "Don't trouble yourself," Nori grumbled, wondering if she could bleach a wild Persian, and pass it off as Blizzard. She gave Maria an odd little salute, and turned toward the bed to retrieve her Meowth. Nori tried to figure out which Meowth was hers, then decided that hers was the one whose fur had suddenly turned dark red, as if it was bleeding from numerous invisible cuts. Suddenly dizzy, she scooped up the cat; and turned to Maria, who was standing around as if nothing was wrong. The girl choked back a wave of nausea and stumbled out of the room, somehow making her way through the Rocket Station, before collapsing outside. * * * It was pitch black. Nori blinked her eyes instinctively, to make sure that they were open. She leapt to her feet, but banged her head on some unseen object, and fell back to the ground. Grumbling and a little teary-eyed, she rubbed the lump on her forehead. Her eardrums were pounding in time with the throbbing of her head, and beginning to buzz in the silence. Slowly, the buzzing gave way to more distinct patterns. They were voices, but their words were never clear. "Show yourself!" Nori ordered, her voice echoing in the darkness, "Where are you? What do you want?" A dim blue light came from out of nowhere, illuminating her body, but nothing else. Nori got to her feet, a bit more cautiously this time, glad to see something familiar. The lines were blurring. Small black spots appeared in front of her eyes, gradually growing larger, until they threatened to block out her vision entirely. She closed her eyes, trying to shake off the vertigo, and saw the impression of an upside-down "R" on the backs of her eyelids. She opened them once again, staring down at her jacket. The "R" glowed bright red, the only true color in the grey-blue fog. There came a noise from the shadows in front of her, and Nori spun to look. Spectre stood before her, his silver pigtail swaying in a breeze that didn't seem to touch any other part of the room. Scyther stepped into the light next to him, staring intently at the red markings on her shirt. Feeling as if she was in a trance, Nori started towards them, but before her leading foot hit the ground, Scyther had sunk one of its blades into her stomach. Wordlessly, she keeled over onto the ground, curling up in a ball in an attempt to relieve the pain. The form of the letter on her chest disintegrated, lost in the spreading pool of red... * * * Nori's eyes flew open, and her pupils darted around in their sockets, trying to make sense of what had happened. While waiting for her heart rate to subside, Nori did a quick mental check, to make sure that all of her pieces were still there. Certain that she was neither dead nor injured, she rolled over to get up; and wound up on top of Meowth, who was curled up beside her. Meowth immediately sat down, and began grooming itself, but occasionally broke from its act of nonchalance long enough to glare at her. Nori rubbed her temples, still disoriented. What was she doing in the middle of nowhere? And why was she wearing a Rocket uniform? "This is what I get for staying out all night..." she muttered, memories of the previous day beginning to return. TBC... -Beth "Ii kanji!"
