The place looked the same as it did the last time he fought Blaine. He walked through to the end of the Gym. As he did so, the lights came on, revealing the Gym Leader. "Blaine, I challenge you." Blaine just smiled. "Two Pokémon each," said Blaine. "You can withdraw and send out Pokémon any time you want. Last one standing wins. Ready?" Sirius nodded. "Go, Arcanine!" "Go, Seadra!" shouted Sirius. Without any commands, Arcanine rushed across the arena. Seadra gave a little squeak as Arcanine gained speed, and attempted to get out of the way by jumping into the air. Arcanine countered by jumping just in time, catching Seadra in the stomach. The wind was knocked out of her. "Sea!" cried Seadra, landing on her face. Sirius gritted his teeth. "Seadra, Water Gun now!" Seadra, not very mobile on land, took a while to stand up. Arcanine had turned around and began its silent, deadly rush. It bared its teeth. Seadra fired the water at Arcanine, who avoided the attack by quickly veering to the left. Seadra desperately tried another water gun, which hit Arcanine square in the face. Arcanine was pushed backward into the Gym wall. "AROOOOOOOOO!" it howled in pain. It shook off the water and opened its mouth, firing an intense blast of flames. Seadra was trapped inside the blazing inferno. By the time the fire subsided, Seadra was covered in burns. Sirius reluctantly returned Seadra to her Pokéball and took out another. "Go, Cubone!" Sirius had faith in Cubone, who was possibly his best Pokémon. Cubone assumed a fighting stance, menacingly glaring at Arcanine. "Cubone bone Cubone bone Cubone bone," he growled in a low voice. Arcanine wasn't intimidated. Preparing for a fire attack, Cubone lowered his head and spun his bone in defense. For a moment, there was complete silence. Arcanine was thoughtfully planning its next move. For the first time since the beginning of the battle, Blaine stood up and began to scold Arcanine. "You must attack faster than that if you want to win. Arcanine, use Take down!" Arcanine meekly acknowledged the order and initiated the attack. While Arcanine drew closer and closer to hitting Cubone, both Sirius and Blaine held their breath. If Cubone avoided the attack, Sirius would still have a fighting chance. If Cubone were defeated, Blaine would easily defeat Sirius. None of Sirius's Pokémon was capable of defeating three healthy Pokémon. Arcanine was within inches of Cubone's helmet... BAM! Arcanine stumbled around for a little while, then fell to the floor with its tongue hanging out and its eyes blank. Cubone had swung his bone at the exact moment before impact. Arcanine's astonishing speed gave the attack even more power. Blaine became angry. "Arcanine, return!" he said, almost yelling. "Sirius, you've improved. But you're still not good enough for my next Pokémon! Go, Rapidash!" "Cubone, keep your distance! Use Bonemerang!" advised Sirius. Cubone could stand an Arcanine's Take Down, but couldn't survive an attack from Rapidash. Rapidash began to trot around the arena, circling Cubone and gaining speed. Cubone raised his arm to throw the bone, but was stalled by the increasing heat. Rapidash continued to gallop around the Gym, making the heat unbearable. Cubone was confused by the heat and wiped off his sweat. He tried to throw the bone again, but was too weak. Rapidash was now at full speed, heading right towards Cubone. It seemed to transform into a fireball as it crashed into Cubone. Cubone slammed against the wall, barely alive. Cubone fell to his feet. The temperature had receded, but it was still hot. "Cubone, use Counter now!" Rapidash trotted towards Cubone to finish him off with a stomp. Cubone was shrouded in an eerie glow... TBC...
